    Hugely interesting and informative videos! I have two gt3 engines, a stock 3.6 and a modified 3.9. I am looking for to get the 3.6 rebuilt, it's done 145000 km*s now. Unfortunately no specialists here in Finland for such a complicated task.. :(

    Hi Martin, I was wondering if you have made a video on ‘servicing’ (if possible) the tandem pump … the reason I ask is that I am cleaning up & painting the cover with high temperature paint & thought it worth checking that no debris in pump (as part of engine rebuild) … any help appreciated 🤞 … KR Martin

    Hey... Great video! I literally just replaced my "Y" cable a week before you posted your video... Searched all over the net and there were no videos for the 996. So it was needed:) I was able to do mine pretty much the same way as you, only I was able to do it without removing the alternator. Maybe I have freakishly skinny arms :) Unfortunately after removal, I inspected my original "Y" cable, it seemed to be in perfect condition... and on a day that was abnormally hot, I took the 996 for a drive to test the 'Hot Start' problem... and the issue persists:(

    • @martinhill5770
      @martinhill5770 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry to hear that. I inspected the cable which came off and couldn't see any issues, but my problem is definitely fixed. Once the engine was warm it was really sluggish to start, now it is fine. I thought it could be the y-cable or maybe the starter motor. In your case I guess the starter motor. At least you know how to get to it now. Looks like there should be enough to get at the starter in the same way as the y-cable? I agree on no video, that is why I made one :)

    • @Poorish911guy
      @Poorish911guy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@martinhill5770 well I found my solution... the other day I was out for a tour and my battery and ABS light started coming on and off. Made it home ok.. but Alternator was making a terrible noise. Took it out to inspect and pieces started falling out. Ordered a new one, and figured while I was waiting for it to come in, I might as well service the starter. Cleaned and lubed. Put new Alt in... and now its starts like a champ, hot or cold. :)

    I bought a Range rover 2012 Evoque… & seeing the same fault on the screen. When i drive the car jerk a little bit…. Sometimes its quite noticeable… Is this ‘ Adaptive dyanamics fault’ is responsible for the car jerking while driving?

    • @martinhill5770
      @martinhill5770 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't see why this would have anything to do with how the car drives. I would have thought it would only affect the suspension system.

    @guyroberts9963 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks Martin. I have a 997 Carrera, 2wd...lots of slack in the transmission when on / off the throttle. Ive narrowed it down to play in the differential...significant rotation play in the output from the diff to the drive shafts and thus wheels (1 inch rotation at the diff output when opposite wheel in on the ground). Im thinking of replacing the diff as im thinking it is play between pinion and diff gears. will it be pointless replacing the diff if the pinion is not replaced? Doesnt look like replacing the pinion is a realistic proposition. Car done 180k miles, although had this play since as long as i can remember....certainly before 80k miles. Now im thinking is a whole gearbox and diff job. thoughts? Thank you.

    Hi Martin. Do you have advice for preparing to remove the header bolts? I had 8 of 12 snap on a Boxster I had a few years ago and now I have a 98 3.4 Carrera which I'll have to remove the headers from fairly soon. Obviously the header flange prevents you adding any fluid to the threads , I was wondering about drilling a small hole to add fluid but think it might be a useless idea.
