    I was at Ft Huachuca in 82. I worked in politics for many years. An attorney who worked for me talked me out of law school. I sometimes regret it. Attorney friends recounting the bar exam soften the regret. It can be tough to weigh the ROI.

    I'm a recently graduated lawyer from Mexico. Here, it's common to work as a paralegal while you’re in law school. Neither of my parents are lawyers, so I wasn't familiar with many aspects of the profession. I began working as a paralegal (for free) in my second semester of law school and juggled between law firms and helping my mom with the family business. Before this interview, I felt that I was “late” because I hadn’t had the chance to gain more experience before obtaining my diploma. However, after listening to this podcast, I feel motivated to continue pursuing my career. Currently, my job is not entirely related to legal work, but I am studying for my master’s degree in Trade Law and International Commerce Law. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am determined to work much harder to become a great lawyer.

      You Sir will not make it to being a good lawyer because you don't listen. You must learn to listen regardless of the job you do. I wouldn't hire you to sell cars. You might be a good car salesman, but your customers will never buy from you a second time. It's when your customers come back and ask for you that you become successful as a salesman. Customers want you to listen to them. Listening to customers is how they know you care. Here are some of the answers you may be looking for: 1. He really wanted to become a lawyer. It was a strong desire. He never gave up on this desire. 2. He worked hard to become a lawyer; working many kinds of jobs forgoing the traditional summer interns. 3. He was willing to make himself the non traditional applicant for jobs. He showed up in person to handout his resume. 4. He used his time effectively studying while commuting because he wanted to become a lawyer. 5. He was willing to make sacrifices to achieve his goal of becoming a lawyer. Delayed gratification. Being tired for 4 years. 6. He was willing to step out of his comfort zone. We become comfortable where we are and choose the easier path instead of doing what we believe we really want to do which is usually a much harder path requiring much more work. 7. I am going to go out on a limb about Jason. I believe if I met with Jason for a one hour consultation about my case, I believe he would probably let me talk the entire time except for a few questions to direct me towards the information that was pertinent. Out of 60 total minutes, my guess is that he would have spoken less than 5 minutes of the entire hour. Please Listen. All you cared about was yourself and not about Jason and his life. This is selfish. You were not willing to do the work to find the answers that were given in plain sight. You wanted the answers given to you in a list. This is lazy. If I'm wrong, please forgive me. I know the answers were given in plain sight. You apparently were not listening. I've just seen this to many times.

      And success is not measured by the $. It's measured by how many lives you touch in a positive way. You touch lives by listening to their stories about their lives and what is important to them. This necessitates me moving my inward focus which is selfish to an outward focus which is altruistic. I must ask myself, "What do they need, why are they hurting, and what can I do to alleviate their suffering?"

    • @genegroover3721
      @genegroover3721 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And if you had listened to the end you would have heard Jason give out his email to answer your personal questions. Jason cares about people he doesn't even know and who will probably never add to his income. Jason is willing to take time from his busy day to answer their questions. He doesn't have to do this. He certainly doesn't gain financially by doing this. Altruism. You will never be successful until you learn this principle and practice it sincerely from your heart. You might make lots of money, but you will never be successful. Many years ago, before the internet, I was completely and utterly lost in a foreign city. I kept asking for help in the language which was Korean. Finally, a woman looked at me and with compassion grabbed my arm. She waited at the bus stop until the correct bus arrived. She didn't just point at the bus. She proceeded to get on the correct bus with me, never once letting go of my arm the entire time until I arrived at the correct destination. She then walked me off of the bus. She went out of her way to ensure I found my way back to where I needed to be. This literally took hours out of her day. This was altruism being lived out. I have never forgotten her selfless act. She didn't make any money or receive a reward for this act of kindness. She just simply cared. My heart is still warmed by this one act of kindness. I fell in love with the Korean people because of her. She indelibly touched my life. ASK yourself how you can make this type of impact in a strangers life and NOT ever receive compensation for doing so. This is success.

    Thank you for this great content! I’m not sure how this came up on my feed but I’m glad it did. My husband is a 57-year old 2L now. He retired from a career and always dreamed of becoming a lawyer to give back.
