You had useless parents. I taught my children everything they needed to be on their own, from cooking to simple auto and home repairs and many other things. That’s what parents do.

Why making your bed is important 1. Discipline: By doing something you don’t want to do in the morning, it will start to build discipline. Doing things even when you don’t feel like it will be useful for everyday life especially when unmotivated or tired. Making your bed is the perfect practice to start building discipline for yourself. 2. Routine: With discipline means you can start building healthy routines to help make improvements to your day. 3. Progression: I wake up around 6-8am but I had to slowly incorporate that into my schedule. By building progression on top of discipline and routine you start to find the hard tasks, such as waking up early, easier than before. 4. Accountability: Making your bed is a simple act of taking responsibility for your environment and your belongings. By making your bed you start to cultivate a sense of ownership and accountability for your space. It’s easy to just say “I’ll sleep in it later” but you would really be doing yourself a disservice. By putting it off, chances are you will never get it done, and you’ll be preventing yourself from building good habits. 5. Developing Willpower: Making your bed requires you to exercise willpower by choosing to prioritize a productive task over staying in bed or delaying action. By developing your willpower in this way, it will create a good habit that will be incorporated into other things you may do throughout your day. It will be easier to resist distractions and stay focused on your goals. For example, I struggled getting myself to do push ups every morning. By using the willpower I gained by making my bed everyday and channeling it towards this new goal, I was able to get to a point where it’s like second nature to do push ups straight out of bed. 6. Appreciation: Making your bed will cultivate a sense of gratitude for your space. You start to recognize the order and cleanliness of your area which can motivate you to continue doing your good habits. Additionally, it will create a sense of appreciation and pride for your own work and what you are capable of. #positivity#Mentalhealth#positivemindset#mindsetshift#selfhelp

Being independent and a freshman in college has certainly taught me some things. Here are the 5 things I learned from having a cleaner workspace 1. Reduced stress: When my areas are cluttered and disorganized I feel more on edge and stressed out about it 2. Improved Focus: My mind is more focused less on all the things in my area and more focused on the tasks I have at hand. Once I clean up the room I feel less anxious and more accomplishment and satisfaction. 3. Judgement: I live with a roommate and him seeing my stack of papers, boxes, and trash by my side of the room makes me feel obnoxious. He doesn’t say anything but I don’t want to come off as disorderly or leave a bad impression. 4. Complacency: I feel satisfied with my workspace and area and start to get used to a mess. That’s when I figure out that it is a real problem. If I start feeling complacent I am accepting the toxicity of my environment and letting myself get lazy. I also notice that it affects my school work and daily habits. I start procrastinating, settle for an average performance, or skip the task all together. 5. Pride: After finishing the clean up process and seeing my before and after I find myself to be very proud of my work. I gotta admit I kind of admire my space and think to myself “wow I did a really good job” and the positive affirmation is excellent at boosting confidence #positivity#Mentalhealth#positivemindset#mindsetshift#selfhelp
