    this is wrong, he showed a fully fused garment and was calling it half canvas, a half canvas jacket will have no fusing.

    Hi, thanks for taking the time to go through these. Does this mean that in the end, a half-canvas will eventually de-laminate and develop blisters like you would in a fused canvas, just at a slower rate? I'm thinking about getting a suit that will last for decades wondering whether this is a viable option.

    • @faustus8858
      @faustus8858 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. If you want a suit that will last for decades go with full canvas- almost entirely immune to the evils of bad dry cleaners - over half canvas any day. The half canvas shouldn’t de laminate over the chest area but there is still the risk of the lower fore parts doing so. Full canvas is always best in my opinion - and more authentic. Hope that helps!

    • @faustus8858
      @faustus8858 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a suit that will last a decade you will also need to think about the cloth you need and ensuring it is the correct fabric for the purpose you intend!

    Hi. I have a suit and I tried testing to see if it has canvas by feeling if there's fabric between the lining and outer bit of the suit and it seems to be the case. Is there any other fabric that would go in between the lining and outer bit aside from the canvas, that I might be confusing for the canvas?

    • @Mark-wo1fv

    any benefits to fused or half or full? Why is fully fused used on cheap suits?

  • @piyathatt
    @piyathatt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What are the downside/upside of fused, half canvas , full canvas suit?

    • @faustus8858
      @faustus8858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The benefit of fused is that it is inexpensive and the in lighter fabrics the fronts appear absolutely clean and uniform. Fusing isn’t all bad. It makes tailoring available to those who either can’t or don’t value higher level craftsmanship. Half-canvas gives fused garments a longer life and better feel around the chest - lower fronts remain fully fused. Fully canvassed, in my opinion, gives you the longest life. Especially if one is ordering top notch fabric. What a waste to fuse cashmere for interest. It’s like handmade leather seats or wood panelling in a Ford Fiesta. I don’t see the value in that. Full canvas also adapts to the wearer over time. It is mutable unlike either of the fused options.

  • @mikelin256
    @mikelin256 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a noticeable difference in breathability between full and half canvas? I'd assumed full canvas would be worse, but after seeing the fusing fabric, not sure how breathable that would be once melted.

    • @faustus8858
      @faustus8858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. The factor that most affects breathability is your choice of the main cloth selected for the garment. I would suggest full canvas would be slightly cooler than fusing because it is has more of an open structure in the way it’s been woven. Of course, there are very light canvases available too…. Does this help?
