HAPUKA IN 11FT DINGHY + MOTOR BREAKING DOWN 15KM OFFSHORE

Bit of an interesting one where I started off the day with a nice pup hapuka and shortly after the motor broke down and I had to wait hours for a tow back into shore. Also added in another trip from 6 weeks earlier where I managed a couple nice snapper.

Limp mode. Is there a red light on. Air in the fuel intake was my issue.
@@surferscollective613 ah interesting didn’t notice a red light but it’s in the shop now they’ve given it a carb clean and taking it for a rest run on the water tomorrow so fingers crossed that will have solved it
Back in February I did a section of the Southern Crossing: from Waiohine-past Cone Hut to overnight at Alpha hut, past Kime then horrendous ridge in gale force winds and zero visibility to Maungahuka hut for the night. Definitely not recommended in such dangerous conditions. I learnt a lesson and live to tell the tale! What is it like on Marchant ridge? From what you said it can’t be too bad yet I’ve heard others saying how steep and muddy it is. You were so lucky having family waiting at Kaitoke otherwise I can’t see any reasonable way to get back to the start. That’s the problem with linear routes. I see you didn’t suffer from cramp this trip. What do you put that down to???
@@jeffc1604 Yeah those tops can get dangerous very quick definitely want to pick your days heading along them…Marchant ridge going south was fine I think people make it seem worse than what it is, going the other way wouldn’t be very fun but the way we went wasn’t bad at all. I did get terrible cramps on the first day which I didn’t add into the video but second and third day they didn’t give me any grief which was good. Thanks for the comment👍
What was wrong with the motor?
@@robperano7708 not sure yet, getting it looked at next week
I had to replace my fuel line @@N.S-fishingdivingoutdoors
Snaps on the grumpies?
@@SHNTRU yeah mate they love them
Awesome bro Thanks for the vis update in there tmw

What a snapper!!Days off!! Perfect weather!!
@@markrosa9209 cheers mate! Hard to beat it out there👍
Another great drop, thanks for sharing bro, really appreciate it.
@@Wellington_Waters_NZ cheers bro appreciate the comment!
Mean vid bro really enjoyed the watch your ballsey going all the way out there. Ps I like the sandals you were wearing in the boat 😂
@@dwhatsfishing cheers bro it’s a long way out but definitely worth it. It’s the sandals that bring the good luck🤣
@N.S-fishingdivingoutdoors Shit yeah for sure if I had a faster motor I would give it a crack. Yes bro the lucky sandals so good. Good on ya mate
1:59 WTF got edited out there? Sparky squeezen himself too hard? 😅
Hahahaha some interesting dialogue that’s all
Nice vid! Do you use the tractor when launching out kapiti or can you just use your suv?
@@rickycamara7096 we push the boat in when launching and for retrieving we just use a rope and tow the boat/trailer out of the water using the car👍
Well done lads, some nice snaps taken there. Cheers for sharing.
@@cococharliematenga4829 cheers mate appreciate the support👍
I thought this was a reserve not allowed to dive there unless you have a permit
Nah mate you can dive about 2/3 of the islands coastline but there is a couple of reserves which I stay well out of👍
Some nice footage and visability there. Good feed of paua too. Cheers for sharing.
Cheers mate appreciate that!
Is the whole track up that gnarly?🥴 Note to self: pick another hutt😬 I won’t be putting that one at the top of my list anytime soon lol. Gorgeous forest though, loved the return journey mists.
Hahahah no it’s not that steep the entire time. It’s still a very steep walk either way up though but beautiful on a clear sunny day would definitely still recommend as at least a day walk🙂
Nice one. I'm new to Kapiti so watching your vid's for local tips and tricks. Were you anchored while fishing or drifting. Cheers
Thanks for watching! Anchored this time. Most of the time will anchor unless in 40-50m+ then will drift👍
Good stuff mate, very informative content too for me, as I'm new to fishing. Went with the dinghy on Monday about 150m from Paraparam beach for the first time and caught a few kahawai and gurnard, pretty happy with that. Do you use burley every time when fishing?
Thanks mate! That’s a good haul for sure, in fact we went fishing on Monday too and only got 1 snapper and a bunch of kahawai so sounds like you did better then me🤣 Pretty much use Berley every time yea, if fishing 40m or under I’ll anchor and Berley, if deeper then 40m I just drift along👍
@@N.S-fishingdivingoutdoors Ahah yes didn't think I'll catch that much actually but makes me want to go back soon. Cheers for the adivice 👍👍
Nice work mate, great hall!

Loving the sounds you put on with videos bro awesome specialy eminen when your winding up filleting🤙

Great goblin forest on Pakihore spur!
Looked like a mint day out how good. Hoping we get some more of that good weather coming our way soon!

Cool! How do you usually setup the camera? Is it GoPro with a tripod or head mount or something?
Depends what I’m doing, either head mount, a GoPro mount screwed onto the boat, or in this one just sat the GoPro on the seat🤣
@@N.S-fishingdivingoutdoors nice! Keep up the fun videos! Getting into kayak fishing in welly and still yet to try up further north than paekakariki.
@@Isaacbuildsthings cheers mate, good on ya, the sharks are slowly making their way south but still a few more snaps out there to be caught👍
Another beaut session. You have caught more in this episode than I have caught combined over spring and summer from shore 😂. I need a drone and a boat anyway, thanks once again for sharing, loving your new boat. Cheers WW 😊👍🤙
Hahah thanks mate, there’s definitely the perks to being able to get on the water. Always thankful for being able to get out there and catch a feed👍
Sick first mission on the boat awesome to see the shallows are still thriving keep it up :)
Cheers bro! Yea there were a couple spiny dogs which I didn’t include in there but plenty snaps still about👍
Hi mate, congrats on the boat and thanks for sharing some content, just bought my first boat and can't wait to go fishing around the Kapiti, might see you around! 👍
Awesome mate! I’m sure I’ll catch ya out there sometime🤙
love the banter, love eating the fish. Awesome. Love from Dad :)
Was that a cotton hoodie??
Did this trip round 30 years back acept came out down Penn ck and lower Otaki Gorge pack floating the odd pool. And no track whatsoever down Pakahori spur
Oh wow, yea I’ve heard of a few people heading in/out that way, there’s now a doc sign at Penn creek hut advising to not go that way as people have had to be rescued recently attempting to head out there. Bit of a shame as it would be nicer heading out there then the 800m incline the next day to table top🤣
Hey dude, good video. Just thought I’d also let you know, if your ever planning on revisiting this hut, you can also access it from the akatarawa saddle, track is primarily used by 4x4 but the walk is so much nicer then that run down Otaki Gorge track. Not sure of the actual names, but it’s all marked/ mapped out.
Cheers mate, yea the track from otaki is pretty rough aye. I have seen that 4wd track option there, looks like a few ks though, you know how long it would roughly take on foot?
That thing looks sturdy
Cheers mate it handles the chop nicely that’s for sure
That’s a arwsome boat, looking for my first boat towards the end of this year and saving hard. This looks about perfect in size. What sort of coin would one like this cost? - cheers man and looking forward to more of your drops!
Cheers mate! If you want a pontoon aluminium boat they’re not the cheapest. I managed to snag a good deal at around 5-6k. However this is with the trailer needing hours of work and hundreds of dollars spent to get a warrant. Looking on trade me and marketplace most of these boats are 7.5-10k with newer motors and trailers with wofs. My best advice is just keep your eye out on trademe and marketplace check multiple times a day and eventually you’ll find a good deal👍
@@N.S-fishingdivingoutdoors Awesome thank you. What a cracker price you picked it up for then and thanks for the price guide. I really do like your pontoon aluminium boat and will keep any eye out on TM and the Market place. Really looking to seeing more of your TH-cam drops. Tight lines mate 😊👍🤙
ive got the same boat with a 15hp outboard, i need a 30hp for more power
I could imagine the 15 would be alright for solo fishing etc. But for diving and having multiple people the 30 is great
Awesome little boat congrats on the new whip.
Cheers bro pretty stoked, should get both our dinghy’s out for a raft up someday🤣
@@N.S-fishingdivingoutdoors hahaha yeah bro give me a head start to the spot I may be some time 🤣
Great vid - the track to penn creek seems a bit like the one we just did from cone to hector (via neill ridge), which was easy to lose the track and surprisingly precarious and muddy (still enjoyable, just always feels a bit dodgy heading on into the unknown). I put up a vid of our walk on my channel (bit of an afterthought, not as well catalogued as yours!). I wonder what it's like getting past those tararua peaks to Maungahuka.
Oh awesome, yea I’ve always wondered about that track. Am looking at heading along to winchcombe bivvy which I think you would’ve gone past. I’ll check out your video now, thanks for the comment👍
Nice work mate. Earned yaself a sub. Look forward to the next one👍
Appreciate that mate👍

@@N.S-fishingdivingoutdoors Too easy brother! Anytime
Thanks for posting. Took me back more than 50 years when 4 of us did a BIG weekend. Came in at Kaitoke on Friday night, by passed Dobsons and overnighted at Tauherenikau Hut. Next day walked up the valley towards Cone, up onto Marchant Ridge, past Bull Mound, Alpha, Dress Circle and rolled a couple of boulders down Mt Hector. Weather was brilliant. Could see the Kaikouras. Along the Main Range, past Tarn Ridge Hut and overnight at Shoulder Knob. Sunday dropped down to Waitewaiwai and out to Otaki Forks. Great memories. Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment! Glad it brought back some nice memories, sounds like an amazing walk. Certainly made a few good memories on this one myself👍
