Beautiful,from Estonia,Tallinn
One day I am going to come to Shetland, rent a car and just drive around.
...then you can upload the videos of your drives on to TH-cam and make £millions like Driving Shetland does!! (wish I wasn't joking!)
I love your dashboard videos. I'd love to hear the sound too!
Nice! Very familiar! Love it!
Can we see some more driving videos on Yell. Please. In particular westsandwick and herra and efstigarth.
Sure! I guess I never covered the Efstigarth road because Google Streetview didn’t, which can be a sign that it’s not accessible by normal car. But check out my Yell in 4K series from a while ago.
I lived and worked here 1970 to 1972 and lived in Hillswick. Lovely experience, lovely people, lovely scenery. Much of the road from Lerwick was single track with passing places.
Beautiful scenery
I love these drives. Thank you!
what are you driven
fairytale
Naughty chap for driving up Papa Stour airstrip. I see that grim toolshed that used to act as a "terminal" has been demolished!
I used to live here as a child such happy memories 💕
Cracking road. Especially on a motorcycle or car if it’s raining.
So many memories good and sad
Good film, how far is it please?
Even tho I have driven this road many times , i really enjoyed travelling on it again, Uist has a big place in my heart.
Thanks for the video. Heading there in July.
I do this sometimes when im not in a hurry
The bit from 45 mins in my favourite place.
do many residents of shetland have their roofs damaged by storm force winds ?
Very relaxing
I dont think I will get the chance to visit the Isle of Harris so this is much appreciated 👍
where is the sound ?????????
Great video! Just got back from Up Helly Aa 2024. Your video helps me remember things :)
So relaxing watching. Beautiful
Awww Collafirth! This trip reminded me of a very enjoyable drive to Collafirth in January 2014. What a special place! I’m looking forward to returning this coming July.
Superb as always, a great bit of escapism from grotty Manchester where I live at the moment. Hoping to move to Scotland at some point. Can I ask, what make of car do you drive on all these wonderful videos ? Cheers.
Thank you! Nothing special, just a 10 year old Yaris.
@@DrivingShetland cheers, a reliable car though which up there is probably a good idea.
I would love to do this in a Subaru Outback.
You drove passed my house and didn't even stop for a cuppa 😂
A lovely reminder of my favourite area of Shetland. First discovered in 1976, revisited often since and looking forward to a further reprise this coming July. Thank you for taking the trouble to video and post.
I spent New Year's Eve watching the drive from Benbecula to Stornaway. Thanks for these. I love going on these rides with you (and Apple Maps trying to figure out where you are)!🚗
Going on a drive from the comforte of ones own armchair. For those trapped in secure care homes this would be one hell of a 'way out' for an hour or two. Just don't tell anyone where you are going and Keep it as a surprise when you get back. Hat of to you for filming the drive !
Beautiful! Even though it's overcast. I would like to ask you, assuming you know, the film location of the TV thriller Red Bones, in particular the home or croft of the murdered character who was an old woman called Mima. In the fiction she supposedly lived on Bressay, but the real film location of her croft by the sea I suspect was elsewhere on Shetland. It's a nice film, music, actors and all.
I asked in a Shetland Facebook group (because I have no idea), and the best I got was that in the book it was set on Whalsay, but filmed on Bressay. It doesn’t get more specific than that, sorry!
Could you make the "classic" Sumburgh-Lerwick driving with sound? Thanks!
Sure!
I recorded it today, but it will be a while before I publish it, otherwise I’ll run out of videos too fast 😉
Thanks mate!
I enjoyed that, and was glad you had the heater on 🙂
Lovely video, thankyou I like Shetland very much .
Was there once! Love to go there again and again! Natural beauty
I enjoy these. I would love the video to pause occasionally to let me read the road signs so I can more easily understand where you are going :-)
Thanks! You know you can pause the video yourself right? 😉
@@DrivingShetland 😂
Nice video that brings happy memories of my holiday in Bressay. But may I ask why silent audio, as opposed to leaving the car's own sound audible? The silence blocks my imagination.
Hi, sorry for not replying to your earlier comment. I explain it in this video: th-cam.com/video/CWhe4VPNv7U/w-d-xo.html
@@DrivingShetland . Thanks, I watched your other video with explanation. True, you're right about other occasional sounds that are undesirable such as sneezing and coughing. A solution would be to plug an auxiliary microphone leading to another part of your car where the sneezing noise could hardly reach. Don't bother, keep doing as you do. Well done. Thanks, Luigi from Malta
@@luiginocm I am from Malta too
@@paulcilia1203 . Have you too been to Shetland?
@7:00 my favourite spot to park up on Unst and soak in the view. You could have opened the gates and continued down to Lund church and beach @8:40.
Would it be possible to leave the sound of the car while driving?
Between ;'78 and '82 used to drive every day from Wethersta, just the other side of Brae to work at Sullom Voe, then under construction for Millers, then for Press. I was coming home one night about 10 in hard snow that had been down for weeks. The road was deserted and I was doing 55-60 as always. You just got used to it.... but It had thawed very slightly in the day and the road was like glass just before Brae but I hadn't noticed. The car started to slide....I corrected it...and more...but it just kept sliding until I ended up in the ditch on the right at about 1.50 in this vid. I couldn't lift it out and wasn't sure what I'd do. 2 minutes later a friend ( Walter) who was the Son in Law of Frankie Nicholson ( crofter and Plant hire owner) was driving past in his landrover. As was always the custom then-no one ever had to stick a thumb up for a lift...the next car along would stop- Walter stopped and then recognised me. He pulled a rope out of the back of his Lanny, pulled me out of the ditch and I was on my way again in 5 minutes. Great days ands I love to watch these vids. Thanks
Thank you
At least now shetland people will be secure for their electricity, bless them.......
It's being pushed south to Scotland
Delightfully pre-turbine. Very different views now 😢
It's been my dream since I was a child to live in Shetland. I'm too old now, but your beautiful videos help me pretend I made it there.❤️
Ive really enjoyed your videos. You drove past so many of my relatives houses, especially Camb, special hello to my uncle Tom Leask.
Thank you for these drives through Shetland. Your drives popped up on my utube about a week ago and I love them. I have subscribed. Lerwick is a beautiful little city in a magnificent setting and I am enjoying this drive. All my ancestry is Scottish and I love seeing the different parts of Scotland as I have no idea if I will be able to travel to Scotland anytime soon. Again, thank you. Cheers from Canada.
Thank you. We were on holiday in Shetland only a few weeks ago and this is such a lovely reminder of the beauty of this place. We drove this road, in parts and whole, several times.
Hi to all my family in Brae 😊
