Welcome to the TH-cam channel of the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at Trinity College Dublin.

What size was the beam? 100 mm ?

Would placing a stiffener at the point of load application produce a more mathematically accurate result since local failure possibly would’ve been avoided. I did not expect the local failure since the flanges do appear compact.
It would likely be too strong for the press and might cause a failure in the press instead of the beam. Always have to think of that possibility. Stiffeners increase the strength by 2-3x. That would put a hell of a strain on the press.

the student should do the lab hands-on and take his own data.
And they usually do. This video was made for students who could not attend lab practicals due to to the pandemic.

It is mild steel

@@AminRahimi-1 The strut length for the first experiment is 230mm. The thickness is 0.6mm and the width is 10mm.

Can you please provide tolerance for the density in regard to mix design just in case the lab samples have lower or higher density
