Episode 47: Finished Ranunculus | Knitting With a Cold
Welcome to Caffeinated Cast Ons!
This past week I finished my ranunculus and it turned out so beautifully. I can’t wait to block it and really see it bloom. I’m working on some projects to donate to my local community and then thinking about what to cast on next for myself.

Welcome to Caffeinated Cast Ons! This past week I finished my scrappy socks and I love how all the colors worked up together. Welcome to Caffeinated Cast Ons! This past week I finished my final pair of socks for Summer Sock Camp 2024! This was actually the fastest I have knit a pair of socks, which was just 10 days! I’m still chopping away on my Calivada Shawl, but I am coming to terms that this will most likely finish in September rather than August. This is mostly due to the fact that I cast on my first cardigan! St...

Love your knits. Get well quick. 🤗
Nice to see you, but it is important to get that break now and then. Good for you to recognize your need for the time. Always enjoy your episodes😊
Woohoo north Texas! I’m in Frisco 🥰 love juju knits and their love of Dolly. Adorable bags
Ahh! I've been waiting so long! So glad you enjoyed your two weeks off. I enjoyed watching while weaving in ends on my socks.
@@Em-yt8cr the time away was needed, but I am glad to be back.
Your Ranunculus looks lovely! I should probably finish mine lol. The llama bag is so cute! Love that knit/purl bag! It's quite nice! Can't wait for the next episode :)
@@handmadebyhoneybun thank you! I am really enjoying the ranunculus!
I was going to join the BFF club but all the sales are on days I have school :( I hope they do it again next year!
I took a class at DFW and learned that Superwash wool is often made by coating wool with a polymer (which is a plastic) that washes off after about 40-50 washes, so then that plastic is going into the water system. That was a bit disturbing and something to think about. When you go to JuJu Knits look at their Madeline tosh farm twist yarn-I have never been there but ordered their Shadow’s Embrace exclusive eclipse colorway and it it amazing to work with!!
I love your sticker stories - I'm a Hobonichi Gal and therefore super into stickers as well.
Take the nap!
Love the cup cozy and the gift idea is genius! That would be such an easy gift for secret Santa and white elephant! I gotta cast a few on.
That shawl is gorgeous! I love all your makes. ❤
I love that Whimsy stitches bag!! So pretty! Do I need more project bags? No, but am I ever tempted to buy more? Yes lol Can't wait for the next episode!
I'm just so obsessed with your socks! I was waiting all day for you to post ❤️ enjoying listening to you as I knit my socks.
@@Em-yt8cr aren’t they so fun?! I love how the colors are all going together.
It was so nice meeting you in person! Can't wait til next year...
Loved meeting you at DFWFF! I put my episode out also showing off my DFW haul! I gave you a shout out as well!
@@aninquisitivecrafter It was so fun to meet you and chat for a bit! I’ll have to check out your haul.
It was my first year to attend! So much fun!!!! New subbie thank you for your share!
OMG, I love your scrappy socks! I went on Sunday because I had a school thing on saturday. I was hoping I'd run into you!
@@Em-yt8cr we’ll see if I go Sunday next year! It’s all so fun, but so exhausting!
Fun episode, I love your enthusiasm!
Talked my husband into driving to Dallas from SATX for Fiber Fest! I’m so excited!! Would love if the Friday visitors would leave some goodies for those of us showing up Saturday 😂 Loved your video. Thanks for sharing!
@@jaclynminor hope the drive in goes well!
Enjoyed seeing your projects, again the shawl is awesome, I think those yarns would make a very nice sweater. Sorry about the sock toe tragedy! Call it a learning experience! Re watching, I have not watched Big Bang but my husband has and now has been watching Young Sheldon.
@@debbyflowers1488 thank you! Yes, I bet the colors would be so beautiful in a sweater!
Great episode! First time watcher and sent from Aimee of happy little yarn. I am also in texas. North East
Vlog!!!
Awesome job with summer sock camp! Putting the loose needles in the binder was genius! I had extra envelopes and a binder lying around and I've put them to good use! I'd enjoy a podcast style recap/haul with small vlog clips inserted.
Impressive Summer Sock score! Especially considering you have a toddler, a job, etc! The shawl is beautiful and your cardigan is coming along great 👍🏻
I second @HappyLittleYarn’s suggestion-that is what I am going to try to do for my own podcast! I know I just want to have fun and share a little of that fun with others! I love your bingo idea-I do not belong to a knitting group but I love all games! Love your podcast and projects!
@@aninquisitivecrafter thanks so much! Yeah, I am loving the idea of mostly enjoying the event and maybe including one or two clips.
Vlogging anything is hard to do… but is always fun to watch. You could do half vlog half traditional show and tell podcast..? Maybe? That was you aren’t worried about recording so much at the fiber fest and just enjoy it. ❤
@@HappyLittleYarn yes, it definitely takes more effort and I want to soak up as much fiber fest as I can!
You did a great job for Summer Sock Camp. Love them all!
@@HappyLittleYarn thank you! Super proud of myself.
Love the shawl!
@@debbyflowers1488 thank you! I can’t wait to finish it.
I think it’s using regular laundry detergent plus regular wash cycle and putting them in the dryer that’s causing the fading of your hand dyed socks. Basically hand dyed is fussy care (hand wash with wool wash and air dry only) required if you want them to stay as vibrant as possible. I bought my son’s family a Speed Queen washer with a wool wash cycle. Do I have one of those myself? Nope, of course not🤣 Wish I had gotten that model
I wash my socks in cold water on the hand wash cycle using a wool wash like soak. I don’t have a lot of fading. What temperature do you wash yours at. I think the water temperature and detergent are the two things that cause fading. I have so many pairs that I don’t wash them very often and I wash them together. I don’t wash them with my regular clothes. I love your La bein Aimee socks. They really turned out nice.
@@cynthiamatlock1605 I was it on cold, but I use regular laundry detergent because I just put them in a garment bag with a regular load of laundry. I wonder if I need to do them in their own little cycle with wool wash…
Thanks for the tip! I've had some fading too, so I'll try this!
Another wonderful podcast. Sound was perfect.
I JUST picked out my yarn for the DFW Fiberfest MAL -I am going to crochet the Thataway shawl. Hope I get it done before Fiberfest! Thanks for a great podcast. I’m An Inquisitive Crafter on TH-cam. Love your socks!
love those stripey socks too!
Your baby sweater is adorable. I have the Mace of skeins yarn you are using in a sock set. This makes me want to use it. Are you going to DFW next month? I am really looking forward to going this year.
The Mace of Skeins yarn has been so fun to work with! Yes, I'll be going to DFW Fiber Fest, I can't wait!
Your knits look great! Thank you for this episode!
@@debbyflowers1488 thank you for watching!
Lovely top and socks
Congrats on reaching 200+ subscribers! 😊
Thank you so much for your kind shoutout to bring more yarny friends over!
@@CaffeinatedCastOns You are most welcome 😀 ❤️. I enjoy catching up with you on the weekends!
Congratulations on reaching over 200 subscribers! I went back and watched every episode. Amy from Happy Little Yarn suggested you! You can also use a color catcher or 2 in the washer. That is what I plan to do with my jelly roll blanket. I am also an avid watcher and Summer Sock Camp knitter with the Crazy Sock Lady!
Hi, new viewer thanks to Amy! That yarn, Agate is pronounced with a soft a, both of them. It's a kind of rock or gem. The Lake Superior Agate is the state gem of my home state, Minnesota.
I find that with scrappy socks, 10 rounds of yarns make a nice pattern. It really doesn’t take much time to weave in the ends afterwards. You have got some beautiful new yarns - enjoy all the lovely colours. Jinny - UK
Great Episode! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Hi. Amie from Happy Little Yarns sent me over. Looking forward to watching more of your episodes.
Why have I not knit a pair of Rye socks yet? It looks like a great pattern for variegated yarn, of which I have far too much. 😅
P.S. Isn’t it amazing how much progress you make when you focus on a single project?
@@selfishknitter Right?! I do not know how I went this long without knitting this pattern.
So glad I found your podcast. Many thanks to Amy at Happy Little Yarn.
I love the way the Rye sock has come out. All the yarns you showed today are beautiful colours. The minis you have should make a very pretty pair of socks. I would rather have a shorter, regular podcast, than waiting weeks for a long podcast. Hmmm - I miss Trader Joe’s from my days in Texas. Oh well, at least here we have nice cool weather!! Jinny - UK
@@JuliaEdge-u6j thank you for the feedback! I don’t have a Trader Joe’s conveniently close by, so I always need to plan my day when I want to visit one.
The Rye sock is looking lovely - I really enjoyed doing the pattern. I think you have made the right decision in making the baby sweater with just one colour - no point in adding in anything that might affect the baby’s skin. I personally think you should just use the speckled grey yarn on its own. Have you tried the free pattern ‘Hermione’s Everyday socks’? It is very simple and gives a nice bit of texture and would look lovely with the speckled yarn. Jinny - UK
I can’t believe it is July, either! Love that you went on a family breakfast date after church. ❤
All your socks are looking lovely. I am so glad you are trying the Rye socks, because they are so much fun to make. Can you tell me where you got the Texas progress keeper? I would love to order a couple and have them shipped over here. Jinny - UK
@@JuliaEdge-u6j I don’t know where the Texas progress keeper is from. I think I got it at a Fiber Festival as part of a stitch marker exchange!
Maybe some pillows with the leftovers? Stripes, solids, or even more “stitch sampler” style would be cute
Love this idea!
how about a scrappy hat knitted or crocheted. crochet would use more yarn. give it some thought. 😊
