Cuyahoga Valley National Park lies along the Cuyahoga River between the Ohio cities of Cleveland and Akron. The Ohio and Erie Canal is a restored section of the canal's original towpath. In the park’s north, the Canal Exploration Center details the 19th-century waterway’s history. Brandywine Falls is one of several waterfalls. A trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers a diverse array of activities.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park was once home to an ancient and massive civilization. In this video we delve into the Cuyahoga River's largest tributary, the Tinker's Creek.
Egypt Mound
The village of Little Egypt was named after a mound located at the top of the hill, off to the east of Dunham Rd, across from the former golf course land. Early settlers claim that the mound looked like a pyramid, hence the name “Egypt Mound.” It’s also believed that the mound was created by Native Americans, but no excavations have been done to prove this, mostly due to the small cemetery located on top of the mound.

"The gorge" as it is known locally hosts many ancient Native American sites, mounds, earthworks and artifacts. It's only more abundant resource seems to be mystery and deceit. Careful you stay on the path or Cleveland Metro-parks Police or one of their many vigilante volunteers will be sure to show up and let you know... there is nothing to see here. Nothing except the mounds large enough to be hiding an ancient temple. Mayan influence in the Late Woodland period.
beautiful park in Bedford, Ohio called Viaduct Park. Down in the Tinker's Creek Gorge, in the city of Bedford, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, lies a historical and natural treasure. Bedford's history began here as the power of the Great Falls of Tinker's Creek was harnessed between 1821-1913 for a saw mill, grist mill and electric power plant. Families such as the Benedict's, Willis', Gates', and others all left their mark on this important parcel, as can be seen via a walk through the Gorge. Ruins dot the landscape from old buildings, mills and bridges. The old stone viaduct that once carried locomotives across the gorge is still standing strong at the top of the park, repurposed and restored by a joint effort between the City of Bedford and the Cleveland Metro parks in 2002. Nowadays, no industry takes place in the gorge, but one can find walking paths, overlooks, and informational signs that help a wandering hiker like myself get a feel for the history that exists throughout the area.

So glad to see this posted to TH-cam. A lot of great memories go with this music.
Not far from Hub Parkway, used to work in that area

The summer is the WORST time of year to explore for ruins. Brave the cold and do it in the winter when you can actually see something.
This area was supposed to be a housing development, but they only installed one road and a few hydrants before it became parkland. If you start at the end of Button road, and follow the old road down the hill, you'll see the remains of a car that veered off and crashed 70, maybe 80 years ago, about the time the road was closed.
Beautiful area! I live close to this but never knew about the history of it
Very cool
What are these mounds that you found ?
I live close by I can see the top of the mound area from the bluff. Lots of Paranormal activity in the area. from 2007-2013 witnessed different craft or orbs of light within the Reservation and General area.
You live on the Maple side?

Am trying to make a lit project but that kit will help a lot that Jack shaft kit but my concern in my tight budget, i dont enat to to fail so my question is does that kit run independent since it has 2 functions...when motot is running so the disk for paddling..is running also with the engine...i wanna see you lift up your foot od the paddle while driving to see if the padle will run in circle
It's free wheel, it will not run if you lift foot. Thanks for watching!!!!

It's like miniature polygonal masonry.
I wonder if at one time they all fit together some how? Or someone in their past had seen that shape somewhere?
Skater shoes?😂 I watch a lot of You Tube and can totally hear your Cleveland accent!😂 I'm from Garfield HTS. originally. We painted that rock in 94'. And did you say you and your friends got "baked" there? We all did)😅

Dude...keep dreamin
In an instant I knew why the motor is moving. Sorry but haven't read comments. That front motor mount is absolute crap. Try to fabricate a mount that bridges between the top and front diagonal bars of the frame. Bar stock, some smartly drilled holes and bolts to form clamps can make that, then improvise a bridge to bolt the front of the motor to more or less the middle of it. If you know someone who can weld, even quicker and easier. Using a bolt or threaded rod section like that allows pivotal movement, sideways movement from the force of the chain on the back wheel. The two back tube clamps are tight, but not tight enough to prevent the pivot, so they're acting as a hinge.

I'm curious to see that "pyramid" mound & see if that may be older than the other one. Region from the Cuyahoga River, northeast to Western New York is designated as the "New York Hopewell Culture," which were unique from other mound builders. They would have been the ones who made the mound you did show. Of course, all such mounds that were excavated were done before we even had carbon dating, so with the historical record I assembled, I've often wondered if some or all of them were actually younger than that. The Iroquois say that when the Erie moved into western PA, they chased out the "Mound Builders," who fled south, but this should have likely only been some time around 1100AD, hundreds of years too late to be Hopewell. My best bet is that the descendants are the Saponi of Virginia, because they say they came from Ohio & their burial mounds are extremely similar, but more simplistic & they likely were only living in Virginia a couple hundred years before Europeans got there. Sadly, they were ethnically cleansed & they have very little of their culture & history left, so its hard to get a clear answer on the matter.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate it!
OF COURSE - we are walking upon our past daily As were the previous civilizations Think, people
So peaceful and beautiful out there ❤
Love this stuff! I've been to the part of the park down by Akron where they took out that town back in the day and claimed it for the park. I didn't think about looking for mounds and tools but I bet they're all through there! So cool 😎
I grew up in Boston Heights, I was down there all the time. Interesting history for sure!!!
Your front mount is the problem. Too much flex
You have to ditch the master link. They will always come off. Get a chain breaker and permanently connect the links.
Grandma's house was demolished in 2009. I haven't been back since. I need to though
There is supposed to be mounds over there. I haven't found them yet.
If you head north up the creek just around the first bend grandma's property ran right up to the water
I'll have to get back there one of these days.
Wow the memories I have from there. I haven't been back there in over 15 years. I remember the 1975 flood. Grandma explained how it was a huge wall of water that came around the bend and took out the bridge
I'm sure that wall of water was no joke!!
My playground as a kid and up until the park took possession of my grandparents land. Their house was 3 houses up at the bottom of oak hill rd
Was that the road I walked up to?
The fact that you are into cars and whatnot is a huge plus for me lol but in any event maybe we could help each other out as far as any questions concerning the Cuyahoga Valley.
Sounds good, thanks!
My grandparents built their home on 6+ acres at 2478 Wheatley rd in Peninsula. In 1974 the government bought back their land and gave them 30 years to live there. So in 2004 the park took possession of the house and land. I have been searching for answers to certain questions I have related to the property and my searches keep leading to you. I would love to speak with you in hopes you could help me with this as it's obviously right up your alley
I know just enough to get me in trouble. lol What are you trying to look up?
4:19, same brother
If you go down Hawthorne Parkway off Broadway going towards Solon ,I've seen mounds on the right-hand side. I don't know if they're ancient or if it's just tailings from when I 71 was built. I pass that way going to work and always tell myself I should stop and check it out.
Thanks for the info, I'll look into that for sure!
Oops, I meant I 271
I knew what you meant. By the old Ice company.
so prehistoric so kool!
Thanks for watching!
Civilian Conservation Corps constructed the wall in the 1930's.
love the waterfall spot .. awesome scenery ... that place is very special .. do you think some of the wall construction might have been old canals or locks back in the day??? just a thought as i was watching because they remind me of the locks at the hocking river near nelsonville the lock there reminds me of that wall construction.. just throwing ideas out there ..thanks for sharing your adventures .. love that spot you have to explore.. peace
It might be.. this creek, 1 mile down, goes under a canal with locks. The Erie Canal. This creek continues another 300 yards into the Cuyahoga river. Thanks for the support!!!!! So much to explore so little time.
