Must have just been running didn't count 14 blades turn over bf starting to circulate oil.
@randytwidwell7418 this is his second attempt at starting it. That being said, we pull all our radials through by hand about 6-8 blades depending on the engine. After that, we generally bump the bigger engines though about six blades or so. That right there is about 12 full rotations of the engine. Then, during the start, you prime for a few blades before you put the mags on. The whole procedure generally ensures the engine is good and oiled. Thank you for the comment. @Making-History That's what I thought. I have old films of early P 47s with inertia driven starters vs the later electric start I always thought the inertia system was really good not much battery power required b I t must of had it's faults. Heavy maybe?

I can confirm absolutely that this P-51D was used in the new movie Fly Me To The Moon. I remember the QPG on the left side (and the GQP on the right side). I am trying to look more into this fighter and who it belongs to and where it is located. I saw the film today in an early release. I recommend it very much. One piece of trivia is that although it looks just like this view (with the D-Day invasion stripes), it sported the added red stripes of the US Air Force and not the WW2 US Army Air Force as seen here.

Working 50s were installed in the plane and ground fired. After that, they were removed, and replicas put in. There is a video on youtube of the ground firing.

Why the slow motion?
The video was a little shaky cropped in as close as it is. I didn't have time to stabilize it, so I slowed it down to make the shaking less pronounced.
My Mom, whose name is Rose, riveted the "stringers" on the L5 on the 2 pm to 2 am shift at Stinson Aircraft from Nov. 1942 to the end of the war. She'll be 100 in June!

Hate to bust your bubble but that was probably a Packard built engine not a Rolls-Royce That's good old Detroit muscle my friend. Don't get me wrong, your RR Merlin was good but the Packard built engine was a war winner 😝
@@christophergagliano2051, if I'm correct, Packard built the Merlin engines under license from RR, to power the P-51. You can relax, as no bubble was burst.
Another reason the Merlin was put in the Mustang was it had better performance, especially at high altitude. Further, England couldn't build them fast enough to meet American production of the Mustang. With that being said, the two Allison's in the P-38 worked very well.
@@thomaslongshore1295 Yes you're right about the Allison engines for the most part but that turbocharging system was very expensive. Can you imagine a p-38 powered by two US built Merlin engines or for heaven's sakes to Griffin engines. I would say that aircraft would give the ME 262 a bit of a headache if you know what I mean!
@@christophergagliano2051, yes I can see a P-38 powered by a couple of Merlin's. The Merlin had a two speed axial supercharger, while the Allison's in the P-38 were turbo/supercharged. Fascinating stuff.

I love that the Springfield Hellcat high-capacity conceal carry gun is named after this war bird, instead of Springfield giving the gun a letter & number combination.
What a nice day in the country. I love the looks of the F6F Hellcat as much as any plane, or more from it's best show views! That sound too. It's record for safety and combat Yeah! Are we so sure this is not the largest single seat fighter of WWII? Huge Fighter, so may look some what different from some angles, like when you are standing close to it. Just because the P-47 has a longer fuselage, does that mean it is bigger than the Hellcat? Which of the two has the most sheet metal in it, the P-47 or the F6F? Hellcat has functional beauty too, even in certain performance stats, there is practicality for it's time and purpose!!!
Saw this in February, they've re-done the nose art with a beautiful Native Chief in headdress. looks great.
