Is this a Single malt, bourbon, or what?
It's a "what". Just a distilled spirit. Like a mix of brandy and rum
I found a bottle of this from my dad’s liquor cabinet and it was from the late 70s. I then bought a new bottle to compare it to. Both were fine and tasted good. Just a very easy drinking scotch not too malty. I think I got that pear fruit note but nothing special.
Well, now I’m happy that I didn’t get a bottle upon first release. I’m gonna wait for these to go on sale at my local Total Wine that or try before I buy. These one up in price I think. These were 70 bucks before.
I saw this tonight while buying an Ardbeg An Oa which is wonderful and peaty! Distilleries are turning out single malts these days - when not having done so in the past! Great thoughts. Cheers!
Which one is wealthy to buy? 01.Glenfiddich perpetual collction vat 01 - 66.5$ 02.Glenmorangie 10 - 60$ 03.Glenlivet Tripple cast Matured distillers resrves - 67$ 04.The GlenDronach Forgue Aged 10 years - 69.5$ 05.Benriach Quarter Cask - 61$
To drink or for investment?

@@sameenperera3808 Haven't had the Glenfiddich Perpetual collection so i can't say for sure. Of the3 that remain, I'd have the Glendronach but honestly a bottle of GlenAllachie 10 or 15 would be preferred.
@@scotchsunday Thank u sir..
Can't beat a '7' all day long! My btl. needs revisiting😂😂🥂 Cheers from ETn Smoky Mtns area--
Yeah, I agree, this bottle need revisiting. It was sitting lonely on a shelf in a small liquor store is a semi-rural area. Doubt I find another bottle
Delicious! Lagavulin is my favourite distillery! I bought a case! Cheers!
I got hay notes
got this at the local store. thinking on it still
Yeah, this one's more of a "tryer" than a "buyer"
I agree that the 100 point Likard scale is not consistent. Another superb informative and enjoyable review. Now I’m really happy I got one of these at retail. I stumbled upon this one at Total Wine when it was getting out on the shelves. Can’t wait to try it.
Thanks for the super helpful review btw. Very informative
Now I’m really happy I was able to get one at MSRP. I too dig the MGP 95/5 Rye mashbill. This one should be interesting. Also thanks for all the info on the Tokaji finish on the Glenmorangie Tale of Cake. I’ll try to find that one to compare.
At a famiy get together my cousin brought Woodford Double Oak barrel and I brought Old Forester 1910 to compare... Loved both of them.. I have just discovered Jim Beam Black 7 yrs and to tell the truth, it has become my daily pour.. Neat.
I purchased this bottle in 2019 and it comes in a tube. There were only 277 bottles from what I read. Was fortunate to have a 2oz sample as well so I have not opened the bottle yet.
Well, eight months later, my patience paid off. my local Total Wine gave up on this and took it down to $77 all in. The grain forwardness is a little scary but at the price I got it for I feel more at ease. I hope to get the same tasting notes and enjoyment. Now eight months later is it still good? Does the score still hold up?
Whooooa , u got the older pre-2018 ARRAN version 46% I think, judging from the bottle/label . . . new bottle is snazzy thick, with a cask strength version called "Bodega" . . . the 50% abv applied to the wine-finished series of Amarone, Sauternes, Port . . .
I just found out today the Pinot version is also offered as a cask strength after watching SLB drinks review. I have the purple label 125 proof cask strength and love it. Your great passionate review here has motivated me to get this bottle to add to my collection. Your Pinot bottle here looks much darker than others I found online. Can you possibly post a link to where I can buy the bottle your showing here?
Great review, thanks! Any other recs for a mizunara finished single malts? Cheers!
Glenmorangie Tale of Tokyo, Glendalough 7, Glendalough 13 is one of my favorite Irish whiskies.
@@scotchsunday Yea, I saw that Tale of Tokyo and wondered if worth over $100 or almost twice the price of the GF. I get mizunara is relatively new (to scotch) and expensive but would think there'd be a few more by now....Oh well, thx, and cheers from YorktownWhiskeyClub
@@philc1884 Well yes, not many single malts but Chivas has a Mizunara that is partially done in Mizunara. When I purchased it, the price was awesome but I think it has increased significantly since. I know you asked single malts but the Chivas is a blend. i would recommend it if you can find it for a decent price.
Great review. Just got a bottle in a package deal of Glen. Agree with your assessment along with some peppery notes. I like it so much I’m glad it’s the 1 litre.
This was my favorite in that travel retail series.
I doubt I’ll ever be able to get this one but if I do I hope to get the same tasting notes
I’m finding the same that Bunnahabhain is getting harder to find. Especially these special editions. Deanston availability is dwindling too in my area but also a lot of their bottles didn’t move.
Yes, the salesman said their ownership is widening distribution so bottle are going to other markets so the result is less for area where they were previously available.
waiting for your hand steady takes half of your video.. thanks for that
Just finished my first bottle of the purple label cask strength which blew me away. I'm thinking of this one and the pinot cask strength version as well.....cheers!
All of their Cask Strengths have been great.
Excellent review my friend.
Mind sharing if any of this pick is available at the store? Im in the. Dallas area. Thanks
Unfortunately Balcones has stopped producing True Blue
Thanks for the update. 😢
Regarding the 2 Stacks blend I’m happy I got it on sale. My local Total Wine gave up on it and reduced it by 30%. I got the last bottle and I hope I get the same tasting notes.
I give a 10 out of 10 regarding the 10 point Likard scale for evaluating Whiskey. Too many times I’ve seen reviews where one scotch gets an 85 and then another gets an 85 and the second one was getting poo pooed on the video. Well, the other one that got the 85 was spoken highly of.
Wow. That is some very high praise. I don’t remember this being that sweet but then I haven’t had it in a lot of years. Normally I just stick to the wild turkey 101 and rare breed.
Interesting. I had this one back in 2019 and it was pretty dang good. I had since moved on to other rise, but this was always the darling of the budget crowd. I was thinking about revisiting it, but after this no way.
Great to see an attainable Whiskey get a good review. I’ve always enjoyed this one and will always keep it around. A great budget rye is also the James pepper barrel proof.
Well, my local Total Wine finally gave up on this. They dropped it down to $90 and it flew off the shelves. I’m glad I got a bottle and I hope I enjoy it. It seems like a misnomer. It’s called the monster, but it’s not.
Maybe it is just the neck pour, I just opened a bottle. It was simply rough, unbalanced, and mouth numbing spicy. Great nose, okay taste, not a great finish. I was very disappointed. Immediately I opened up a Balcones “1” to compare. The “1” was a whole lot more balanced. I’ll give it a few months, but I agree I’m not sure this is even worth $40. I think I might not even finish it either 9:03
I agree, but seems you and I are in the minority.
Have you revisited it recently? Has it changed?
@@pepebruno1672 I went back to it this evening. It seems better and I would increase my rating but I still feel I've had better Balcones Single Malts.
Where you from? I'm in SEPA🤙 Old Farm has some history all the way back to the Revolutionary War. You should do another video if you can. I'm not getting any of that Mexican burrito you're talkin about, but I do see the pepper & honey. My take is more tea. Big bales of tea, rye & hay. Very spicy. Some heat. Very dark, like the early PA Rye Whiskey distillers made it. The Overhalts have a lot of history and now David E Stein of Hidden Still Spirits has continued that with local grow ingredients 🥃🇺🇸
Ah poitin...classic back in the day if you wanted to go blind
Great looking distillery. Nice review my friend.
It’s some of the best whiskey I’ve ever had.
I tried this at a restaurant, and was impressed. In fact, I think it might be the best rye I’ve ever tasted. Luckily, I was able to find one at a store, and it’s on the way to me now. I was able to get it below list price as well.
I agree. It's a really good rye
Based on my estimates, the little guy cost you about $10 in whisky there. Haha. Great review.
Thank you. Yeah pretty close to $10
I got fig and raisin too w/ the apple. It was almost very good. But w/ a little something missing. Guy at Total Wine said he thinks the age statement is 5-7.
I am VERY pleased with this rye edition.
Thanks for the terrific review! Lagavulin is by far my favourite distillery! I can’t go wrong with a Lagavulin. I am a little iffy with the Tequila influence in the latest Lag 12. Have you tried that expression? Cheers!!
I absolutely love this Lagavulin expression. I can really never go wrong with Lagavulin. They are my favourite distillery. The 16 is sublime! This particular scotch does an amazing dance in my palette. Outstanding!
I just tried this one tonight it’s one of the most unique ryes I have tasted. I highly recommend this one.
with 12% Rye the name is misleading. Bottle says Single malt whiskey which is also incorrect! It is an American Whiskey! $99.95 in Oregon.
Very true which contributed to my disappointment when I got the bottle.
Regarding bad GlenAllachie whiskys. I've had 1 that was underwhelming and 1 that was just too much of a good thing. The underwhelming one was a 7 year old bottling from an Independent Bottler called Lonach. Was just young harsh and a bit too malty for me. The one that was too much of a good thing was a store pick that was 61.9% ABV and was 10 years matured in Virgin Oak Casks. Holy cow it was too much spice for me. Even with water my palate was getting mauled. I have some other GlenAllachies from IBs and the regular core lines I will enjoy them soon.
I agree. In Texas I think Ralfy or the Ralfy fanbase was able to get GlenAllachie into the bigger stores. Wish these bottles were cheaper though. This one sounds like one helluva an experience on the palate. Found these at Total Wine for $165 before tax. Maybe if I order it abroad it will be cheaper. Thanks for the super honest and detailed review.
great vid. Thanks, stay safe, stay armed , stay free.
How about taste?
Dang it! Such a great score from one of the most fair reviewers out here in Whiskey Tube. I only found a bottle by pure dumb luck in a local Total Wine. I doubt I'll find it again. Oh well. With the one I have I'll enjoy. Thanks for the honest and thorough review.
I would be glad to take this off your hands if you want to get rid of it.
