Kadafi can keep the beat with a pause. He crams syllables into the rhyme space, and then allows a brief silence to coincide with the beat so that his slew of words still keeps tempo. It's a kind of genius almost no one else in the music industry has.

Goddammit Kadafi is so good with Pac. His style is revolutionary, and it makes me so sad, every time I hear him, that we have so little of his voice in the human record. Y'all may not understand if you haven't been poets or musicians all your lives. It is extremely difficult to break the bonds of traditional rhyme and rhythm schemes. There's a reason that cliche cookie-cutter art and music and movies are so common. It is easy to be derivative; to utilize the successful patterns of people who took risks before you. It is so much harder to do something different and be successful at it while it's new. Kadafi was doing that at the very top of the game, as a teenager. He was like Picasso or Jean-Michel Basquiat with words. Hell ... he was like Tupac, in his own right. They had different styles that complimented each other, but they were both masters of their style. Pac is the best, the base, he sets the tone. Kadafi resets the tempo, keeping a song from feeling stale and repetitive. He doesn't obey rhyme patterns and sometimes crams twice as many syllables into a line as it's "suppose" to have, but the mother fucker made it work, and that just barely exists anywhere else. Busta Rhymes can do it. Eazy E could do it. But those are OG masters. This kid was 17, 18, 19 years old, settin' lyrical wildfires that could keep up with the GOAT. Him and Johnny J, maaaan, and Daz and Kurrupt. Insane. It'll never be like that again. He makes me think of Mos Def and Kendrick Lamar. P
