De Fazio Knives
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ก.ย. 2020
Hi, I am a 17 year old knifemaker from Melbourne and I have been making knives since I was 11. I got started by watching videos on TH-cam of blacksmiths from around the world and I was hooked. I have my own workshop that I have filled with tools that I bought by myself. The money I make from selling knives mostly goes towards buying better tools and materials.

In this video I make a custom mushroom knife. The steel is 1084 high carbon steel and the handle is a piece of micarta that I attempted to make a while ago, which turned out alright, just enough to material to make a small handle out of. Thanks for watching. If you haven't already, it would mean a lot if you liked and subscribed, (maybe even shared it with your friends?). Instagram: @defazio_kn...

Do You actually sell any of Your kitchen knives?
Yes I do, I do custom orders as well.
@@defazioknives6108 I'm in the market for a new kitchen knife for Christmas . BUT , I need help with trying to get the right one . I want a knife to cut white potatoes, carrots, celery, onions etc. . I think I want one somewhere from 165 to 180 mm . I can't sharpen it , so , it must be able to hold an edge. It also must be easy to keep from rusting. I know I'm asking a lot , but , this is going to be the biggest stumbling block , the price ( can't afford more than $150 tops ) . Can You please help Me ? I understand if You can't .
@@johnhoward3271 Hi John, I'm sorry but my kitchen knives range from $400 - $500. You'll be lucky to find a decent handmade knife for you're budget. I wish you luck.
@@defazioknives6108 I ended up getting a 7" Enzo bunka . ( Little less than a hundred dollars + s/h ) Looks ok ( haven't used it yet )
@@johnhoward3271 Nice, I hope it works well for you.
👍👍
very cool - I like it !
sweet
well done !
Nice knife what steel did you use
I used W2 steel for the blade
Wow! I found your video late. There are some things I could have learned earlier. You are doing great. A great knife!
Thanks, I'm glad you got something from it.
very good job !!!
Good work, and good video. Thanks for sharing.
Bạn bôi thứ gì lên dao lúc chưa tôi nó vậy . Nhiệt độ tôi của bạn là bao nhiêu thế.
Wouldnt 170 degrees temper be fairly brittle. Awesome work though
REALLY interested in the grind! Do you have any videos with a similar knife being ground? What angle did you grind it at? Also, did you grind the edge at a different angle to the rest of the blade/bulk of the blade?
I pretty much grind all my kitchen knives the same, so just check out one of those videos. I kind of just eyeball the bevel, I just grind it until the edge is around 0.3mm thick, then I grind a secondary bevel to finally sharpen it on some paper wheels (I just eyeball that angle too).
@@defazioknives6108 Makes sense, thanks :) I recently got a jig, so going to have a play with that!
Love your work man 👌
I like your vidéo ! Thumbs UP and subscribe ! I Make knifes too !

I looking for a chefs knive for my wife!! Can you email me a price for you to make her one?? Gttidwell@icloud.com
I would be happy to make you a knife. I have sent you an email, so please reply to that. Thanks!
Looks very comfortable to hold.
Seems to me to be a perfect knife to add to your collection.
Wow that's really cool!
nice
Noce! What steel?
I used W2 steel.
Great work!!
Good job brother.... just fyi if you weld on about a 3 or 4 piece of round stock to the top of the bolts you can hand tighten and won't have to look for a wrench every time.
That a very good idea, thanks!
Awesome knife. Nicely done!
Thanks!
nice bro👍👍👍👍👍🔪
Thanks
Crisp 👌 really nice work. Can I ask why you left the ricasso there until later on?
Thanks but I don't understand the question.
@@defazioknives6108 i probably worded that poorly 😂 I mean the grind didn’t come all the way back to the heel until after heat treat
Ahh yes. That's kind of just a habit because I normally do that on other knives. After heat treat when I do the final grind I can put the plunge line in the right place, but this knife didn't have a plunge line, so I probably didn't need to do that. 😁
Good work. What is the specific use of this knife?
It is generally used for chopping vegetables.
Sugoi!
which part was stunning?
Wouldnt mind watching if i didnt have to listen to the music. Thank God for volume control
Wowww beautiful n sharp
Beautiful knife. Just starting out myself. Keep making more videos with voice over, very helpful. Thank you
Beautiful work!
Just fantastic to see a young bloke making some great tools. I've yet to still have the time to finish my knives (3kids and 2 jobs) but really enjoying to see where you will end up! That and just enjoying your content mate, keep up the good work!
Thanks mate, really appreciate it. I hope you get around to finishing those knives. 😁
good idea. your welding skills will improve but be aware, welding galvanised steel gives off very harmful gasses.
Yes, I made sure I was wearing a mask. Thanks
I'm a complete newbie to this so forgive me if this is a silly question. When you drilled out the scales, why not put both halves together under the knife and drill the holes like that, instead of the way you did it?
The reason I do it that way is because I don't trust how straight my drill press drills the holes, so I prefer to drill one scale on one side of the knife and then the other on the other side because that's the way it will go together when it's glued up, so if the drill press isn't straight it doesn't make it super dificult to put together.
Awesome knife! I'm barely getting into knife making myself, I was wondering, what tools did you start off with?
Thanks! I started off with a simple $70 Ozito bench grinder from Bunnings, a hand drill, an angle grinder and some hand tools like a saw, a bunch of files and some sand paper. also a decent blow torch. I'd say that's really all you need to start off.
Ooh, I also got a coke forge and a rail road track anvil.
