The Art of War and The Tao Te Ching are two of my most favorite philosophical texts! So very relevant, even in modern times. Great segment, fellas. 😃
So glad you enjoyed us geeking out over gamification of shops Jenny!
That distinction between leaders and managers is huge!
Definitely Tim!
Sure loved being a machinist, sure hated being paid $13 an hour doing it
it's unfortunate there are shops that pay that out there, I loved my time as a machinist. Would you ever come back if you found a better paying shop?
@ArthurField IDK I really liked trade work but I had a welding job this summer that screwed me on my milage majorly. I havent had any luck with anybody who pays more than production manufacturing and those places are few and far between. So my new plan after 6 years of trying trade work is get a software development degree, figured I could be a tech. for production work that pays money. No more 50 hour weeks for pay I compare to fast food workers.
Well I'm happy you see a path for yourself, that's the important part. I get that it varies depending where in the world you are when it comes to what is possible in the trades.
My brother was on one of your videos his name was atul
I had so much fun interviewing your brother, he's a great guy!
It was great chatting to you Arthur! 🎉 Overcoming fear is always a challenege but 100% something that can be done. If anyone will be able to do it, it'll be manufacturers!
It definitely can be done, completely agree mate
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun on this one!
So much fun 😁
Need some fecking context for this. The only hint is economical development meeting.
💯very fair, I've linked the interview this is from. For context, we're talking about programs to support manufacturing locally. It does apply to any business though, reach out to your local economical development departments in your cities to see what's possible for your business.
Great video, Arthur and Tim!!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the conversation David! 😊
In a small business it's so easy for priorities to shift and move. But I do love Odoo. We decided we should have some of our products listed on Ebay. Less than a week later it's started and full integrated. Now we're already scaling the listings. In the end though the best ERP systems is the one you embrace and make proper use of!
Definitely get the sway of priorities as a small business owner man, glad that odoo is working out! 💯 nothing will work if you don't embrace it
Was a great conversation, thank you for the invite! We should find and excuse to do another one sometime :)
I will 💯 take you up on that in the new year Tim!
So right! Bad strategy is like perfume on a pig!
💯🤣
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed!
Arthur, your wife and I will need to connect and collaborate on how-to-keep-your-dreamer-husband-organized!
Definitely should get connected! I'll send you two a joint message on LinkedIn
Woop! Thanks for the shout out Tim! 🥰
Haha he's a great man and a loving husband, or so I'm told
Yeah you could care less?
couldn't** care less, thank you 🙏
Customer: "I expect a bill for your help" Tayler: "Nah man, just mail me a 12-pack" 😂 love it
He's completely committed to his clients success
Thank you Arthur! Awesome time sitting down with ya! Remember to PM your machines!
If you aren't planning PM you're planning to disappoint your customers #facts
schunk has style
And great quality control
Thank you @ArthurField for hosting this awesome episode - It was a blast to chop it up about CMMS!! Had a great time!!! 🤘🤘🤘
So much fun man! You're a wealth of knowledge that any maintenance professional would be good to know
Love your videos man!!!
I appreciate that!
Love this idea - absolutely brilliant! 🎉😊
So glad!
Yes, we go form taps on stainless. Coolant is important though, need the HP additives.
HP additives definitely a must
PO vs the whole operation, that hits!
You get it
Great tips. Thank you! Will check out subject line!
definitely recommend, they've updated it since the video too!
Love how Ian likes to tell the underlying human story. The best relationships I've built are with humans :)
His perspectives are so moving
Ian is awesome! He visited my shop a few months back and we had a great chat! Super cool dude!
So neat! I hope to see your shop one day as well!
The reverse carrier fair. Supper interesting so many thoughts coming out of that
Right? So many different options to try
YAAAS!!!! Love this!!! 🔧🤘♥️ It IS absolutely amazing to be doing what you love to do! This young man is going places - thanks for the inspiration!
glad you were inspired~!
Love your videos thats my brother
Man, loved hearing from him about how excited you are about your future. Keep it up!
How exactly are the locators fixed into a blank part?
Best is milling in and then thread milling. There are a few options for thread size on the pins.
I love your videos
Appreciate this!
Im his brother!!
What an inspiring big brother you have!
Courses at community colleges for trades are too expensive. Plus they make you take several safety course before taking the course you want
Where has you doing safety courses? All the ones I took while working didn't require any.
My company pays more for manual machinist than CNC machinist.
Very interesting, do the pay more for those with setup skills as well or just between CNC and Manual? Which do you prefer?
Tiger Manufacturing in Webster, WI also has an excellent student run business (with a Co-Bot loading a CNC Lathe, and a 5 axis Machining Center)
Very cool!!! Love learning about new student run businesses! Where's the best place to check them out?
Love Jenny! There's a program called Remake Learning days. It's in a few states, but basically it's what you talked about. Geared for younger (middle school) aged kids. The local technical schools set up and they have cosmetology, trucking, virtual welding ( which the kids LOVED), auto body and so many more cool occupations. Not a lot of schools get to go visit it though and my two kids (ages 5 and 7) were the only homeschooled kids to visit it this year. They gained attention because of how young they were compared to the other kids but to us, there's no better age than they are right now to start introducing them to different trades and line of work. The vitual welding and simulators are what the kids flock to. It's like a game for them and in my opinion, the future of getting kids into the trades.
Lucky kids getting exposed to manufacturing so young. It sucks there's low attendance. Have you looked at the local skills competitions to see if any are close enough?
Super-packed with some great ideas.
you're the man Ray!
Yall there's a 5-10 second glitch from re encoding around the 6:10 mark where it plays a chunk of the intro again for some reason 😅 I've clearly got to watch start to finish before posting after encoding 😂 Promise that's the only glitch. Big thanks to Mike Sutton who watched it start to finish and clued me in 🎉
30:42 I love the insights about the breadth of skills a la the "T shaped" skills portfolio. When you look at job descriptions and requirements, I feel like too many companies still ask for the depth part of that T shape, and don't necessarily take into account the skills that can be transferrable from normally unrelated industries. Lots of useful information in this one!
I completely agree
Good video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed
Good video.
Slick and solid team and video!
I appreciate you Silver
That was pretty cool. I especially appreciated the aspect talked about: securing the part throughout its machining by choosing the sequence of operations to minimize chatter and vibrations in the part.
Thanks Dan, they put a lot of thought into their customer care
so proud of you, excellent video!
Thank you
Very clear and informative video.
Glad you think so Maggie :)
Wow, I was trying so hard to get this perfect 4years ago lol, crazy how time flies.
