I was taught in grad school that misdemeanor as "delito menor." We use it in the US courts too.

“Corte” is not the same as “tribunal” “Corte” is for a country or state’s Supreme Court, not the lower courts. “Corte” is like “Probación” or “Felonía”: it’s the sad result of false cognates being used over and over again. The more precise terms for Court are: Judicial Juez Tribunal Juzgado
Thanks four your input; however, as you point out many US lower “courts” are referred as courts so I don’t mind using the Spanish term Corte.

manslaughter is divided into involuntary manslaughter which is homicidio imprudencial and voluntary manslaughter which is homicidio culposo. criminal law can only be derecho penal, not derecho criminal.

What about asesinato?
Great question, “asesinato” indeed means the killing of a human being in Spanish; however most penal codes in Spanish speaking jurisdictions do not use such term, instead “homicide” is used to describe the crime or offense.
