During that timeframe, it was the Mercury version of the Falcon, not the Fairlane. The equivalent of this in the Ford was the 289 Falcon Sprint. Very nice quick little car, a friend had one brand new.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the all blacked out look. I'm a chrome guy and black and chrome is a winning combination on almost any ride. Interesting though the baby moon hub caps in chrome/stainless? If he wanted EVERYTHING blacked out, I would think he would have made those black as well.

This past Saturday. I was at the Fall Swap Meet at the Mt. Petit Jean Park in Arkansas. They had a completely restored Jungle Jim 1970'S Funny Car. It was the one that he painted Maroon. It was the original body on the original frame. Sadly Jungle Pam was nowhere to be found. I had know idea that the car was going to be there . A very pleasant surprise.

Regular SS classes are listed as SS/A (stick), SS/AA (Automatic), SS/B. SS/BA, and so on. Regular SS has to have an engine that was available in that body, that year, from the factory. Factory SS would be the 2008 and later factory-built race cars. Factory Stock is FS/A, FS/B, FS/C, and so on. Factory SS is FSS/A, FSS/B. and so on. Factory cars do not separate sticks and automatics. A 2008 and later factory SS race engine in a different year car would be FGT/A, FGT/B, and so on. Must be Chevy in a GM body Ford in a Ford/Merc, Mopar in a Mopar. SS/GT is a different year engine, from the same manufacturer, in any 1955 and later car. Example is a 70 Maverick with a 68 Mercury 302 engine, or a 92, Dodge Daytona with a 71, 318. That blue and white 55 Chevy has a 68, 327 engine. That 69 Camaro has 3 classes on it. F/SA, G/SA, and H/SA. Dan has FGH/SA so he can just tape over the two classes he is NOT in. Snoopy is a 66 Nova 283 in SS/JA.

My home town had the AHRA Winternationals way back, Big Daddy was driving a front engine AA fuel rail, funny cars resembling street cars, tires went up in smoke Every run. Cha Cha, Little RedWagon. Linda Vaughn was the show stopping Hurst girl, Smokey Yunick Chevy Master builder a literal who’s who of the masters of speed in the era. 😊 Great memories of a long gone era

Every time I see Don Garlits museum I feel a sense of sadness that so many of the cars should be out on the track instead of just sitting there.

Amazing cars. The late 60s through early 70’s are absolutely the best styling in production cars, hot rods, dragsters and funny cars, show cars, what-have-you.

I remember most of these rods. When I was a kid growing up in the 60's+70's. And have seen some of them run. At Beeline drag way outside Phoenix AZ. Great pictures. I always wonder what happened to the "Piranha" Thanks !

A year or two later, Centerline would ugly-up drag racing forever.
