Aloha and welcome to Whipping Hawaii! This channel is based out of Oahu, Hawaii and showcases a fishing style called “whipping” it’s similar to the Carolina rig but with a Hawaii flare. Aloha, Thanks for tuning in! I would like to apologize in advance for the F-bombs the adrenaline was pumping today. Me and Unko Lee hit the "secret spot" and ended up both landing our personal best Omilus with the soft baits!

Hows it guys! Mahalo for tuning in to another video. Today me and uncle Lee put in some MILES. Roughly six miles round trip, and had an action packed morning! It has been over a year since we have fished this spot and was able to hook up to some action! I hope to enjoy this episode of Whipping Hawaii. In this episode I go over helpful tips and tricks for rigging up your setup to hopefully be successful fishing in Hawaii. The morning started up slow but picked up some speed towards the end of this session. I was able to land a nice size Lai and small Papio. All fish were released to fight another day. Do you have the bubble float filled all the way with water?
@@questshun808 yes, it weights roughly 1.9 ounces. Just gotta make sure whatever rod you’re throwing is within that spec. Mahalo for watching 🤙🏻
@@WhippingHawaii ah yes I guess it depends on rod spec, I see most people filling it half way that’s why I had to ask. Mahalo for the reply!
@@questshun808 yes, you can do that as well to be with in spec. You can even cut up the small split shot leads and throw them inside it will create a rattle everytime you pop the bubble and could help with attracting predator fish. Keep in mind if you’re throwing a bubble that has color they might attack the bubble instead of your bait.
@@WhippingHawaii yes I currently have split shot in the bubble I’m using but didn’t think about using a clear bubble so that’s solid advice thank you!!

Got J.Hara Kurtistown, Big Island, Tokunaga in Hilo too. I usually get Li in the afternoon on green grubs.We get action at night, aweos and paches # 10 AH hooks, flatten 1 oz lead, 6lb flurocarbon leader 10 lb main line, 13 foot nitro. Cheeehuuuuuu

Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought your supposed to use j hooks for lures to set the hook so circle hooks work well too?
It’s all preference at the end of the day. I used all kinds of different style hooks growing up and no problems setting the hook when a fish bite. I personally like using the BKN style hooks for whipping because of the bent tip which typically lowers your chances getting snagged up on a shelf with low tide. I have no problems setting the hook with BKN style hooks. Mahalo for watching 🤙🏻

How far you bombin your casts out there anyway?
@@Th3gam3phr3ak at least 50 yards if the winds in my favor probably a little farther. The set up I run I noticed I can really throw that bubble farther than my past set ups
@WhippingHawaii Yeah the Bubble and Hammer Bombs I love throwing into the wind even. Surprisingly far!

Is it okay to use the bubble on braided line when whipping? Or does it rub too much?
Yes! I use 20lb braid as my main on my 5k stradic and 30lb braid on my 5k Saragosa. I prefer braid over mano as your main because there is no stretch with mano. No problematic rubbing should occur. I would just check your bubble if it starts getting beaten up on the rocks and make sure the feral where you put your line through has no sharp edges
how long is your leader?
Roughy 5 ft I like to measure with my arms out to the side left to right. Mahalo for watching 🤙🏻
Is whipping in town a bad idea for a beginner? Just seems like theres not much action. Mahalo!
I would just double check where in town you are fishing due to certain areas having a “season” for example Waikiki has a fishing season where you can fish every other year. The reason I suggest this is so that you don’t get in trouble with dofaw or dlnr. Me personally I don’t fish in town. I never had much luck and usually it’s super crowded. I would rather drive out west or north to fish rather than fighting to find a parking stall in town. I appreciate you watching 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
