Great Video!!!
@@MartinV. appreciate that
What is the Skrim light doing to the exposure? Wouldn't the clamshell be enough?
the clamshell provides a more direct light for the model, but even with that setup, sometimes there are some shadows that aren't flattering, or even the background is too dark. The scrim being there allows me to elevate the light in the overall space.

Oh shoot that’s tailiah
Hi Allen, first I think Cooley is a lovely name you made up like you said, secondly, it’s great I found your channel, short videos but great on insights and nuggets of knowledge. I think you are one of the best out there. Now I have a question, the title for this video is “ the worst photography equipment, that’s metaphoric right, cos I am sure you are too smart to put down $1300 for a piece of equipment you do not need. Am asking cos I want to invest in one, really need it cos I think it’s an invaluable equipment that can open new imaging opportunities creatively speaking. Let me know what you think and Weldone for the great job you are doing! I guess I will be swinging next for the Elinchrom Litemotiv Indirect Octa.
Yea I’m definitely being sarcastic. It’s just a really expensive piece of equipment but I really love it and don’t regret it at all. If you have the money to get it, I think it’s an easy decision to make but the price is definitely a barrier for entry. I appreciate the kind words btw, definitely hope to grow the channel over the coming months
@ so cool of you to have responded so swiftly! Really appreciate it. Totally agree it’s quite expensive, unfortunately, I think photo equipment are unnecessarily expensive but it’s our reality anyway. Btw it will be nice to hear your perspective on the future of professional photography, touching on the impact of AI.
Detective Cooley at it again
lol
Really well articulated and interesting break down of how you use hard light. This more detailed and nuanced dissection of lighting is definitely a gap to be filled for people looking to level up their lighting game. Well done.
Thanks for that. Trying to make the content I needed when I was coming up in it
What printer? Paper? I need all the deets😊
It's a Canon SELPHY CP 1500 Here's the link amzn.to/40ydCYL
Can this be achieved with a 7in reflector?
@@quanishamoody7770 yep! The characteristic would be similar with the punchy contrast, and the harsh drop shadows…but the edge of that drop shadow may not be as defined and the focus of the light hitting the “T-zone” of her face may be slightly softer depending on how deep that 7in reflector is. Hope that helps 👍
Definitely helpful - would a magnum reflector be a step up from the reflector?
Very unstable construction...wood breathes and wall can crack
@@СтепанСтепанов-б6ш had it for 5 years and it’s been great, thanks for asking
What about premises? Does it have constant temperature and humidity?
@@СтепанСтепанов-б6шif the construction is unstable in your opinion, why do you care what the other variables are?
@@allencooley because i had to build cyc wall this summer but i ended up calling cyc builders. Sheets of plywood were just covered in waves, and i had to undo most of my job
@ I used plywood because I wanted some flex… the cracks are easier to deal with if they show up. When I’ve built with drywall, people would accidentally step on the curve and their foot would just go through it and that repair was much more difficult.
No BS straight to the point. Seeing your workflow and knowing what I do myself comfrms and makes me feel good :)
This is some really good info!
Great shot… But above and beyond that, what a stunningly beautiful model
Appreciate you

What software did you edit with? Amazing work.
I just recorded the screen on my iPad while I wrote on the screen … then brought the video into davinci for the actual video edit.
This is fantastic, even though the video was short, it was succinct and informative. Your channel shows that there a channels with depth of knowledge but ignored by the algorithm ❤
adding this ruler for sure i Just did this with a hard case for my D1's from harbor freight .
A detective series would go miles. This is superb ...gonna give a different spin a try
a detective series? tell me more.
This presentation was clean sweet and straight to the point. You’re a detective & problem solver. “How did they get the shot?” A quick synopsis and credit to the original, how’d they achieve the look, some things that could be different? Preference taste? Etc. Drop a poll… did you crack the case? I’ll fly out there and be Watson 😆
R5c?
R5 I believe. I go back and forth between them. My R5c is setup mainly for video, but i keep it ready just in case something’s acting weird with my R5
Your work is amazing!👊🏿🔥🔥🔥 Is all portrait photography possible with just constant lighting?
Portrait lighting for the most part can definitely be constant...i think when you start dealing with a lot of motion in the images, things can get a little tricky.
Pretty good breakdown ngl
Well done. keep them coming.
Well done.
Thank you sir
Wanted the hive lights so bad because of the profoto mount.

fire!
Looking forward to seeing the full breakdown on this setup to hear your thoughts!
I tried this same thing today. Blue constant light and a single strobe. Could not get frozen motion at slow shutter speed. I don’t mind a little blur, but just couldn’t get the same results you did. Tried adjusting all my camera settings including strobe power setting and switching to rear curtain sync. Could not achieve these results.
I love the effect of the large modifier on your model's face. Really evenly spreads the light; or is it that you did some dodge and burn? Either way, great work and great straight to the point video!
Thanks, the spreads coming from the modifier and the foam core fill. I also will bring the light closer in to the model and by bringing that light in, it softens the light even more and makes the source look and feel larger.
@ I’m working in such a tight space, I got hotspots on myself (as im the model haha) so I have to edit them out ugh 😑 but yes 👍🏿 thanks so much for sharing again!
@ thank you!!
Would be good to see the lighting set up
How are you recording your iPad screen?
Just using the screen record feature on the ipad, and then airdropping it to my computer for the video edit.

Hey man, love your content. Curious if you could make a size/power recommendation for someone looking to get into digital teching? Thanks 🙏
What all do you want to run on your tech setup? For example, some people run iMacs, Mac Pro towers, while others run laptops. Also how many monitors are you thinking? I personally like to be around 1000 wh or more.
@ I’m gonna run a MacBook Pro and probably a Benq monitor to start. Since I posted I actually ordered a Jackery 2000 Explorer V.2. There’s a Black Friday sale going rn, until the 20th I think - was $600 off.
Hey man, love the videos. Curious, do you have any issues using an adapter for digital teching? No problem connecting your display, hard drives etc through an adapter?
