QGR Borallon is based on the first crossing loop outside Ipswich of the now long closed Brisbane Valley Railway. Borallon is 15 km from the former Brisbane Valley Junction (Now Wulkulka) and was the changing point for crews but mainly for the passing of the Down trains bound for Yamarran & Up trains bound for either Brisbane or Toowoomba this was due that the line was BVL single track.

I can tell you pretty much exactly where Steele Rudd set his "Dad and Dave" stories: Emu Creek, in the Toowoomba Region of the Darling Downs, Queensland (Rudd was born at Drayton, on the Darling Downs). There's a reproduction shingle hut at Nobby, the town where Rudd lived, and the pub, where he reputedly wrote some of his stories, is still standing. It was renamed "Rudd's Pub" in the 1980s. So, basically, Dad and Dave are Queenslanders. I can tell you we're still pretty much like that up here.

I taped it off PBS TV back when it was first shown here in the USA. My Mom was a railway (office) worker and HER Dad was a conductor. After she had a stroke she couldn't get out much and it gave her a lot of joy to see Scott's train journeys. Always wanted to get her on a train journey but the stroke ruined THAT plan. RIP Mom

Thank you sir for your comment. I am really amazed that you actually were part of a well balanced and beautiful piece of television, shame it was only short lived. I would have been nice if it has continued and branched out to cover the railways of britain. With you coments, I shall re-lease this with my 'naughty; stamp as original aired. Michael

First heard this as a trailer on a video (remember them, u no big square things) and replayed it about 100 times. The movie is classic - cuts a little close to the bone for some, but this song is a terrific example of John W singing no bullshit old school australian hopes. Thanks for posting.
