How to Build a Cursed Nuclear Tomb
The research of Nuclear Semiotics is an interesting rabbit hole. Cursed monuments, atomic priesthoods, glowing cats, and a nuclear conspiracy that goes back nearly a century, it's all here. The question is, should we build this cursed nuclear tomb, or leave this thought experiment where it is, in science fiction.

The First Torture Horror
มุมมอง 4.8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Alan Poe predates modern torture horror or torture p*rn (as it is most often called) by almost 200 years. It isn't quite the same as Saw, Human Centipede, or Hostile, but that doesn't mean it isn't horrifying. It is a story of darkness, madness, and torture, but beneath the veneer of horror is a story worth reading. 0:00 Ever Watched Saw 3:05 Hi I'm Norman 6:50...

    Most of their vids are very unsettling. The "moon mission" one was just...dumb. The image of the "door" in the moon left me like 😐😑. But the other stuff (especially the "children's show") scared me emough to make up for it.

    I wanted to take a moment to give you props for that really thought-provoking video on nuclear semiotics. The challenges you brought up about creating warnings that could last for 10,000 years, and how symbols and language change over time, really show how complicated it is to communicate long-term. The idea of using pictographs or stick figure comics as a sort of universal language was super interesting-it’s a simple yet clever way to connect across different cultures and time periods. I found the more radical ideas you mentioned, like bioengineered plants or the concept of an atomic priesthood, to be fascinating. They really push the limits of traditional thinking and make us think about solutions beyond the usual warning systems. Lastly, your take on the political and social factors involved added a great layer of context, highlighting that this isn’t just a technical issue but a very human one too. Thanks for putting together such an engaging and thought-provoking piece. It’s pretty rare to find content that sparks curiosity and reflection on something so important for the long term.

    You may mention this later (paused at the fifteen minute mark because a random though zipped by), but there's another religious connotation to Santa Muerte, especially as it involves gang activity. There was a sect of worship in India, who would sleep in graveyards, adorn themselves in burial ashes, and were reported to have no fear. Mostly they're remembered for their assassins, the Thugees. They were very feared, if not exactly respected, because as devotees of the darkest aspect of Kali Ma, they had already "died" in her service, and thus were not afraid of death. I'm not saying it's one-to-one direct--no religion maps over another perfectly--but as human beings, we have touchstones that hit a lot of the same things. Sickness, mourning, relationships, wealth, family--whatever. One thing that Santa Muerte does that's very similar--at least in the interviews with gang members I've found--is offer her penitents the peace of death. Thus armed, they go forth and do some fairly horrific things in her name, because she's already accepted them. Sort of like...they're already destined for hell, but at least they won't be alone?

    Pretty sure your "what looks like a black and white movie" is a series called One Step Beyond, which was one of the early shows featuring spooky tales (think the Twilight Zone or Night Gallery, save that One Step Beyond premiered before either). Something unique to One Step Beyond, though: the show purported to show only "real" stories of the supernatural.

    If it is buried deep enough anyone who could locate and dig to it should be smart enough to expect something dangerous and heed the final warnings and markings. So I feel maybe just hide it and try to forget about it. If there is anything noticeable at all someone some day would want to see what is going on.

    Forewarning: this comment is LONG! I wrote opinions about a few things as they popped up at different points in the video Regarding the stars in the comic - Many ancient things were built in alignment with stars, or they contain artwork of some form that indicates the relative positions of some stars. Archeologists can use that to determine when something was constructed because precession (Earth's wobble) slowly changes our view of the stars in a very orderly way. Hoover dam was the largest concrete structure ever built and engineers thought it could possibly last for thousands of years, so they included a star map which accurately displays the night sky of 1935. So there is a precedent in American history for this sort of thing and it's not as weird as one might think. Archeologists and astronomers were invited to work on that project because it's their job to understand "deep time." That's a fundamentally unnatural perspective, and having experience with that perspective makes them the most qualified people to consult on that project. However, the project had incompatible parameters and it asked the wrong questions. "If future humans *ARE NOT* primitive, which signs and architecture should we use?" - That scenario is the assumption when we build anything new, which means that scenario covers no new ground and it should not be included in the special project. That group of humans can maintain and modify the site as needed, just as we always do. "If future humans *ARE* primitive, which signs and architecture should we use?" - This question leads the respondent down the wrong path because NO SIGNS should be used and every effort should be made to conceal the site. That is what the Finnish plan to do with their Onkalo repository when it is full. An unnatural environment full of strange signs is effectively a trap because humans are curious and they will inspect the strange place.

      All great points. It's specifically the last two points that lead me down the rabbit hole. Why even go through such trouble with designing such an odd marker system. It's a cool thought experiment, but ultimately seems like a waste of time and effort.

    • @SoloDoloPoloOlaf
      @SoloDoloPoloOlaf 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@NormansIndexI thoroughly disagree, as these projects hold the absolutely greatest value for the future of Mankind. If we ever discover or create something of unimaginable danger we have a moral duty to warn against others following our footsteps, be it humans or "aliens". Whatever we have found/made being of such nature that it cannot be concealed "indefinetly". I think a good example would be the markers from Dead Space. Creations that are meant to be found, understood and activated. What follows is an unimaginable horror. While the Markers, as we understand them, are malicious by nature its not far from what will follow if a regressed human civilization unearths "glowing rocks". Something that is extremely rare in nature and thus equally valuable. How they "glow" is literally a matter of picking your poison. The irony of suggesting "old" mines is not lost on me. Y'know, the holes we dug in the ground to extract valuable minerals. A sufficiently advanced civillization will prospect for the same minerals that we extracted. They might also discover the indicators that we used in our time. Only this time they might find "something unexpected". Of the many things man loves, a mystery is historically proven to be one of them. We can only pray that they discovered radiation beforehand...
