Firewall in RouterOS: Protecting the Client Networks Beyond
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Whether you are serving clients, setting up your home device, or configuring an office network, protecting the network beyond the edge device, including all other devices, is of paramount importance! Using connection states and the forward chain, you can create an iron-clad security layer in four easy steps.
Firewall in RouterOS: Basics of IP Connections (Pt. 3)
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
The related connection state is the fourth state that you may come across when working with traffic on network layer three. "Related" is a connection related to (not part of) and spawned by an already established. connection. In this tutorial, we will show how related connection come about and how you can use them to secure your router.

the video is awesome! but i have a question why the name of wireless is wlan1-to-class instead of wlan1-to-R2 Trainee?
This playlist helped me a lot. Thanks
Hello Sir, My question is why the default firewall is not accept new connection-state?
Thank you, God bless you, all the steps and the explanation was very easy to follow and to do.
Thank you, This helped me out of a jam
Completely bogus, the MT router has no business being used to attempt to stop a DDOS attack. This is the responsibility of the ISP provider and upstream carriers. If you want to play a fools game do waste your time with a DDOS config on the MT device.............
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! You’re absolutely right that ISPs and upstream carriers play a important role in mitigating large-scale DDoS attacks. For massive volumetric attacks, their intervention is often necessary to block traffic at the source before it overwhelms the network. That said, MikroTik routers can still be part of a multi-layered defense strategy. While they may not completely stop a full-scale DDoS attack, they can help reduce the impact of smaller attacks, especially at the local network level. Implementing firewall rules, rate limiting, and traffic filters can help protect internal networks from certain types of threats. It’s not a foolproof solution, but it adds another layer of security, which is always beneficial in a comprehensive approach to network protection. Thanks again for your comment, and I appreciate your perspective!
hello sir do have config for gaming or bandwidth management
So this is simply not practical in the real world. Firstly you have to manually add the addresses, secondly adding sites like Amazon and Apple will block traffic that could be genuinely requested from this sites.
You're absolutely right; it seems there's a bit of a misunderstanding. This video is part of a lab session aimed at demonstrating how to use RouterOS tools effectively. The focus is on applying the results gathered from these tools into a firewall configuration to enhance troubleshooting skills. It's not intended as a practical implementation for real-world scenarios but rather as an educational example. Thank you for your detailed comment and for sharing your feedback!
Horrible audio, horrible presentation.
Where is the router with an all-port 2.5GbE configuration? RB5009 2.0? When?!
Agree. I don't understand, why only one 2.5g port.
Am subscribing because of your education, slow and sure
thank you for video
Damn.u got some persian accent.nice teaching by the way
regret buying rb2116 because it is very bad for voucher hotspot. If only I could downgrade to ros version 6

Wow, i started to see the video thinking this was another unuseful one but it gave me very relevant and important information. Im kinda new in mikrotik so it came very handy. Very well explained !
Keep it going. In terms of mikrotik, this is one of the most advantageous channels.

Where the file will be after saving, and how transfer it on PC…
It will save under files, and you can drag and drop the file onto your computer.
Perfect thank you so much my dear senior boss
This is so educational ,since you have clarified on both rb3011 and rb4011 in greater details .
I was DDos attacked by my unlce Troy jeffery childers last night he has been trying to hack my steam deck for the past few days i was on a free vpn called veepn and they had to do an update today im using payed services now my whole computer froze up literally couldnt do anything until i restarted it.
This playlist is absolutely awasome.
But i used Mikrotik HEX LITE serious router and MikroTik hEX Lite router does not have built-in wireless capability. It only has Ethernet ports for wired connections. Therefore, it cannot directly access a WAN wireless interface. 😅
1. Is there a point of blocking invalid state packets with dedicated rule (besides of having a counter) if the next rule drops everything anyway? 2. Wouldn't be better to accept "established+related" in the first rule in both chains for performance reasons?
Thank you for your insightful question. Our current training is centered on laying a solid foundation in the fundamentals of MikroTik RouterOS, particularly for first-time users or those who are not yet fully acquainted with MikroTik RouterOS and its new interfaces. Our goal is to ensure that participants grasp all the basic networking concepts within RouterOS at an introductory level. While we understand the importance and relevance of your question, this session is not tailored to delve into such specific and advanced topics. However, we are looking forward to exploring these more detailed and complex concepts in future sessions. Your interest and concerns are greatly appreciated, and they help us shape our upcoming content. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

This is a really well done video - thank you for making and sharing! This is helping me understand how to get my Proxmox guest VMs to connect out over my laptop's wifi without using a bridge.
What happens if my router is being sent DDOS attacks from port 53? Can I disable this port without harming my pc?
Great job.
Great tutorial.
Thanks for the real good tutorials .
can I set up multiple scopes? In other words, can the DHCP server provide addresses for multiple subnets?
Seems to have a negative effect on latency. Also causes my phone to think there's no internet. The internet works fine but still get the message "Connected without internet" on the wifi
very informative video. thanks for your presentation. i have a question. between the ccr2004 16g and the ccr1016 12g which would you say is better in performance?
How to protect modem outer from any cyber hackers attack. Can any brand be made inviolable? In the past few days I noticed that I was getting my network card disabled and something else remotely. I know perfectly well who is the cause but without evidence with you can proceed with the complaint and move on to the 'arrest of these people (who do not even live far from me. It just so happens!!). Greetings.
Hello Mikrotik Canada, it has been 5 months and there is no new episodes of the training course ? Really looking forward to new ones. It was a very good tutorial !
