Ferris ISX800 - Grease Using Lube N Lock Coupler
I am getting my Ferris ISX800 Mower ready for the upcoming mowing season; even though this is a brand new mower, I am still going to check all grease points and add as needed. SPOILER: 2 of the 3 spindles were not greased full; front casters were greased, but definitely needed more. I also installed a Lube N Lock grease coupler which ended my greasing frustrations (that is what Lock N Lube guarantees! ) :).

Honda HRN 216 Push Mower Oil Change
มุมมอง 1972 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the first oil change for my Honda push mower; I decided to use the Honda brand 10w 30 oil, but you can use whatever brand oil as long as it meets the spec according to the manual. 1 quart will get the job done as you'll likely only need 400 to 450 milliliters. (1 quart = 946 milliliters)
MoJack Pro Lawnmower Lift - Binding Issue Resolved!

After assembly, my lift would exhibit at times "binding" issues when turning the handle in the UP and DOWN directions. Today I decided to dig deeper into the problem to find root cause and a resolution. Spoiler alert: The power drill side gear box was the issue! Slip Plate - Graphite Paint For Lawn Mower Decks
มุมมอง 1.6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I decided to undercoat the deck of my new Ferris mower before the 2024 season starts. I recommend scuffing the surface w/ 320 grit sandpaper followed by cleaning / wiping with ethanol or Isopropanol. Lastly, make sure your garage or paint area is at least 70 degrees and wait at least 8 hours between coats for the best results. I used 3 coats and obtained very good results.
Honda HRN 216 Surging - Carburetor Clean - Bad Fuel Shut Off
มุมมอง 6143 หลายเดือนก่อน
My Honda HRN 216 began surging after the first year with approximately 10 hours of use. It required a full carburetor tear down and cleaning. During the process, I also had to replace the fuel shut off as it was either defective from the start or has failed after 10 hours of use. Not happy with the quality of this mower...
Ferris ISX 800 Zero Turn Mower - Brand New, Check your nuts!

I recently purchased my first Zero Turn mower and decided on a Ferris ISX 800. When ever I purchase any motorized item, I go through it because there's usually things overlooked by the dealer or improper setup. In this case, I found the left arm linkage jam nut was loose, the left top transaxle bolt to the frame was only finger tight and few other bolts that were loose... But the biggest issue ...

    Did you noticed the surging appears after 3 or 4 pulls after you thought you had fixed the problem? My mower is almost new and I did the cleaning part, 1st through 3rd pull seems perfect but after the 4 pull I saw the surge sound again. What is the problem of replacing that little screw with stainless steel? Mine is almost ruined. Thanks

      My first year of owning this, zero surging. I let it set over the winter and the first time starting up, it surged really bad. For some, removing the screw, spraying carb cleaner fixed it. But for me, the JET was plugged so it required a full carb tear down... I decided to replace the screw with an allen head that is easier to remove and less likely to strip. After doing a full cleaning, I have no more surging so it sounds like you probably need to pull the carb and give it a cleaning.

    Shutting off the fuel valve to run it dry to stall would have shown you your valve was faulty. I do that when I’m done using the mower to keep fuel from sitting in carb. Mine just started the surging issue. Going to spray some carb. Cleaner in that pilot hole. I changed oil (reg. Main.), air filter, and spark plug. My mower is four yrs. old.

      @Moto-Tobo 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'll shut the valve but never let the carb run dry until it's time to put it away. You risk build up of residue on the inside of the carb - ie.. just take the bowl off, let the gas "dry" and you'll see the residue. If you are using non ethanol fuel, then it's a non issue.

    Had the same issue with the screw stripping out. I left it in. Took carburetor off and sprayed carburetor cleaner into the front hole facing the air filter side of the carburetor. The fluid shot through the tiny hole on the carburetor side near the intake side of the carburetor. My valve cover was also leaking oil. Took off the valve cover cleaned oil off the engine and cover then applied Blue RTV permatex silicone gasket maker. I’m gonna let the cure for 24 hours before adding oil. It disappointing that Honda didn’t do this right. My family starting buying Honda mowers since the mid 1980s. All of the 4 of them still run flawlessly without any issues. We just pass them on including Honda snowblowers. I passed on my last Honda mower to my older brother and bought the HRX 217 after I heard they’d stop making them. My dad’s first Honda with the aluminum deck is still ate my mom’s. Just oil changes not even a spark plug in 20 years and starts easy no issues.

      I have always been under the impression Honda meant "quality" and for the most part, I do believe this. However, for this push mower, I see where they did cut corners in quality. I first tried to spray without pulling the carb apart, but that did not fix the issue. I had to remove the carb and give it a total cleaning in order for it to finally run good. The jets were plugged. I typically run good fresh fuel, but with the humidity in the summer, that can speed up the process of ethanol fuel "phasing" out and causing residue to build up.

      Well, certainly every mower will have a degree of warts but I'd say it's really up to the dealer to "do diligence" and inspect before the consumer picks up... I think the consumer shouldn't have to do the QC because at the price paid for this mower, I expect more.

      yeah, it's sad when that's the case... but after purchasing 3 belly mowers, the total cost for the 3 was getting old... so decided this purchase will last for a very long time... so yeah, sux in the wallet but to maintain my house and roughly 5 acres, I wasn't going to do it with a push mower!

    I enjoyed your video. I have two things to ask you about: 1) What factors lead you to purchase a Ferris mower over all other brands available? 2) How is the Slip Plate coating performing under the deck? How much of a difference does the Slip Plate actually make? Can you make a "post mowing" video showing the underside of the mower, and ease/difficulty of grass clipping removal?

    • @Moto-Tobo
      @Moto-Tobo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi John: the biggest reason for the Ferris is the factory is about an hour away and I really want to support a local company - given today's economy, I wanted to buy something that was made here in the USA. With that being said, the second and still large reason is the performance - Ferris is a very good brand with the quality of the metals used plus design. I have about 8 hours on the machine and it's performed flawless. The slip plate is still being evaluated but spoiler alert... I'd not do it again since I'm seeing areas that wore off very fast. My plan is to do a second vid at the end of the season to give a good review. I do think what coating is "left" does help to prevent grass build to some extent - still too early on to give a solid report. I will however come back in Sept / oct with the follow up. Thx for the excellent questions! Cheer, Alan

      Did you find a solution to the grinding gear? I just put mine together and it grinds so bad it’s hard to turn even with no mower on it.

    • @Moto-Tobo
      @Moto-Tobo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zacmay2091 I have not taken apart the gearbox / mechanism... but it seems like the "grinding" happens at the exact same spot - maybe not every rotation, but every few rotations its definitely a grinding. Since you are having similar issues, I think it' s probably part of the design... which now has me a bit curious... I'll likely tear it apart - I'll film and post if I find anything. Cheers! Alan

      @@Moto-Tobo Just to follow up, I did find that on the small gear, between the teeth that were binding, there was a deposit of some sort of hardened resin. I removed the stuff with a pick and it did improve things. Even with that, it is not a highly precision gear mechanism, has a lot of play. The overall design is top notch, but mine came with a few manufacturing defects prior to shipping: one of the wheels is out of round and scrapes the frame, one of the end caps is busted, and the wheel bracket was bent. Other than that it's a solid piece of equipment. Thank you for the post Alan, I look forward to more in the future. Zac

      @@zacmay2091 Right on Zac - so I'm def. going to dig in and see if I have a similar issue - I also think this is an excellent jack as far as doing what it's designed to do, but the final fit and finish is likely a by product of being made over the pond... I'll def. post up a vid as I think this will be a very common finding...Cheers!
