I remember this video every few months and I have a mini headache trying to find it, but it really is worth it in the end. This means a lot to me for whatever reason. Maybe it's because I've always subconsciously humanized my technology and this puts respect on that idea. Although the concept of this movie is distressing, I find an odd comfort in it all. Thank you

something about the relationship between a kind of computer interface-derived intuition (cropping things out of magazine covers, the stella cuts, the gridding and laying out of pieces) for the planning of work and its eventual realization in the "real life" space of the gallery is so compelling.. I'm often thinking about ways to transfer or translate these kind of digital gestures into reality and the methods majerus uses are so simple but so ingenius!

thanks for the amazing series!! So crazy to see his process.. something that I had to think of was that Frank Stella also painted his black paintings freehand using a standard housepainter's brush, I think he just made a pencil drawing on the canvas first; so what you said about the paintings having the same energy or vibe as the Stellas really makes a lot of sense to me. I was wondering if you can see any pencil markings on Majerus' canvases, I couldn't pick up any from the pictures you showed. I really hope there are some, otherwise it would really be obnoxious 😅

Thanks for another great video. The collage of his triangle paintings with the Halley and Stella paintings was really interesting. Also, him painting straight lines without tape while having a conversation was wild!

A fascinating video, thanks Cory. Although as @hippen___leopold comments, I do agree that there is an invasive, voyeuristic element to this process. However, in 2002 our laptops or desktops would not have anywhere near what we put on them now. So it's less of a concern perhaps. But for instance, what would you think if your macbook vanished from you right now Cory, and we all did an arcahaelogical deep dive on it? 😉 It's an interesting thought. Like Van Gogh's letters, I wonder if he would have been horrified to know millions upon millions of people had access to reams of his private communications. And as you say, this is essentially like walking into the artist's studio. There are preservations of notable artist's all over the world, Pollock, Freud, Bacon, Moore etc....have we just witnessed the first ever dissection of the digital part of an artist's studio? I think so. Either way, as I mentioned about your own laptop Cory, this will surely become extremely common in the future.

thanks for answering the q about screensavers:) i would also be curious if there are other software, settings, scripts... like what tools or custom tools are on the g3... stella also drew lines with pencil and freehanded his stripes; it kind of looks like @16:15 there are some straight edges or rulers in the foreground to make pencil lines? then you would just paint between the lines, but hard to tell. very cool and nice research, looking forward to the next eps! :D

Love it! Freehand was long an alternative to Adobe's Illustrator, until eventually Adobe bought up Macromedia, who had produced Freehand (and Macromedia Director, the leading Animation/CD-Rom production tool, Flash etc. ) - all products were eventually either discontinued and merged into Adobe Products.
