a biblical view of design
Over my time in university, I have constantly questioned what makes good design. Here, I lay down the progress I've made in exploring good design through the Bible and God's creation.
You can also read them below. Let me know if you think I got this biblical view of design right. Thanks!
Good Design Is Selfless
At its core, good design prioritizes the needs of others over personal ambition or preference. It requires humility and a commitment to serving the user and the community honestly. Selfless design seeks to solve real problems, add value to lives, and meet people where they are. It avoids deception, such as unnecessary complexity or hidden agendas, and stands as a beacon of integrity.
Good Design Is Accessible
Design is for everyone, not just a privileged few. Accessibility means considering the needs of people across all abilities, circumstances, and backgrounds. This includes designing for physical, cognitive, and financial inclusivity. True accessibility reflects the love of God, who made all people in His image, and ensures that design serves as a tool for unity rather than exclusion.
Good Design Promotes Heaven on Earth
Excellence honors God. Good design glorifies Him by striving for innovation and contributing positively to the world. This involves subduing the earth-harnessing its resources responsibly and creatively-for the betterment of humanity. It recognizes design as a form of stewardship and a means of reflecting God’s love through service to others.
Good Design Stewards the Earth
As stewards of God’s creation, we have a responsibility to care for the planet. Good design takes sustainability seriously, incorporating materials and methods that minimize harm and maximize longevity. Whether through durable construction, repairability, recyclability, or biodegradability, design should honour God’s creation by ensuring its continued flourishing for future generations.
Good Design Holds Valuable Symbolism
Symbolism and aesthetics are not superficial; it is a function for conveying meaning. Good design incorporates thoughtful, intentional symbols that operate as a function to evoke emotion, which can also be used to tell a story and foster a connection between the user and the object. Like parables in Scripture, the symbolic power of design can communicate deeper truths and values.
Good Design Brings People Together
True design unites rather than divides. It fosters community, collaboration, and understanding while rejecting elitism, status, and barriers. By choosing elements that celebrate shared human experiences, good design reflects the love and unity Christ calls us to embody.
Good Design Is Fully Functional and Thought-through
Practicality and usability are essential. A design must work as intended, meeting the user's needs with clarity and efficiency. The principle of "form follows function" guides this aspect of TOVA design, ensuring that beauty is not just skin deep but evident in purpose. Though we see a flower and say it is beautiful. It is all intentional.

Is the World’s Most Iconic Pen Still the Best?

Is the Bic Cristal Pen still the best everyday writing tool, or has its time passed? In this review, we dive deep into why this classic pen has stood the test of time. We explore its design, usability, performance, and environmental impact-unpacking both its strengths and shortcomings. Is it the ultimate budget-friendly tool, or should we start looking for more sustainable alternatives?
This writing icon doesn't need your approval. Its way older than you are, and far more important than you are.
It doesn't cost much to have manners. Do better.
I agree
This video needs more views, your ideas on faith and god are truly enlightening and I can tell you are a well-read individual. Continue making, for the glory of god. Amen ✝
Thanks so much, really needed to hear that, I appreciate the acknowledgement of my work despite the lack of views. Though I hope the message does reach more people, I'm sure your comment will help, God bless you!
If it is a refillable ballpoint pen, you should try Zebra f 301. That pen only costs about 2 usd here in Vietnam (probably less) and you can buy a refill for less than 1 usd. I've been using that for years and can personally vouch for its smoothness in writing, doesn't need most force to write, sometimes you thought you were using a gel pen.
It's cheap and can write for a long ttime, but there a a lot of more premium ballpoints that writes way better as of feedback, glide and feel. Caran D'Ache 849 and Sheaffer ballpoints to new a few
Bic 1.6 mm Cristal is my everyday pen. Best regards from Brazil, Mário.
Caneta suave, mas na minha experiência 1.6 borra muito quando a letra é pequena.
@GoodOleDFT sim isso é verdade mas eu tenho letra média e aí não tenho problemas. Um forte abraço 🤗
I am fan of mechanical pencils, I have more than a dozen of them and I picked them up from online stores, carefully chosen by subtle characteristics that I like. They are nice, good quality, durable and reliable. But for pens the Bic Cristal is simply my favorite, I've tried other wellknown brands and more expensive ones but the Bic stand out for me, its simplicity, it's reliable until the end of its life, never fails. Love it. l like the Bic metal recommendation, I will give it a try for the sustainability reason. P.S.: I prefer pens based in oil ink (as Bic), not other inks (as water based inks, gel inks, and others) because exist really nice fountain pens and similars but usually they bleed to the other side of most papers, and that keeps me off them (I don't want to begin to worry for what kind of paper or what brand it will be).
I wouldn't say it's the best by any means, but it's still a damn fine writing implement and very practical.
The king of stick pens. Very practical.I’m not likely to set aside my fountain pens, though.
As a indian i would also recommend Reynolds 045, our bic crystal that can become peak maybe (can fit other refills so brt refills might fit) but today pentonic brt at 20inr, Energel 0.5 at 40inr, uniball 215 at 50inr (basically uni eye) are best in writing and also cheaper af so idk if its vapourized i can always buy a new one or for 215 I can put fountain pen ink into
The barrel hexagon edges always gave me bad callouses. Much prefer the Pilot G2.
It bothered me too, until I taught myself not to deathgrip my pens.
Work in a deli in a grocery store. This was the best pen to use.
I've completely transitioned to fountain pens right now but, from a purely practical standpoint, you can't really beat a Bic, they just work, if only they could be more comfortable for longer writing sessions.
The Zebra F301 is my favorite pen. It has a stainless steel barrel, textured grip, and writes super smooth. I bought my first one in the late 80’s while in the USAF and have carried one ever since.
That's really a tell if something is good design. The company keeps producing it instead of shifting around with trends. Cool story, sounds like a great pen. I'll have to try it out sometime!
Bic has perfected the ballpoint pen. The M10 (Bic's first click pen) has been in production since 1956. Unfortunately, it's no longer sold in the U.S.
Love seeing people passionate about good design. I haven't tried that pen but it looks great from what I've seen online! Maybe I'll review it sometime.
@@tovaform_review BTW, the Bic Round Stics are less expensive to purchase by the box. I buy them instead and recycle the ink in old Cristal bodies and my ReNew. They'll also fit the Linc Pentonic which has a great design.
great video
remember me when u big bro💯💯
