Thanks Patrick. Sorry to say Francois passed away a few years back. I met his niece who is writing about him and has started a web site in his name. Her name is Channing and I know she would be very interested in talking to you and anyone else who knew him. I forwarded your message to her so you may hear from her soon.
I knew Francois in the late 70s when he lived on the North Shore of Oahu. We spent many good times at the Cuppa Cafe in Haliewa. His name just popped up in my head and I thought I would look him up on the internet to see if it had anything on his art. The last time I saw him he was working with painting on the back of plexiglass and then back lighting it. His Batiks were some of the most intricate I had ever seen. I am sure his works are worth quite a bit today.
A chapter in the life of Kevin W. Smith and friends . . .
You are welcome and thank you for embellishing my movie with your colorful poetry. Aloha from Hawaii.
Last verse of my poem 1969 I wrote today. Thank you for a great video to put it with. Many roads to travel back to 1969 I became a twirling guitar player A HAIR ROCK OPERA DANCER The actors communed with my freedom Their long hair flowing in the wind Around and around we danced the afternoon away Ate some dinner from the food we grew Thank you older hippies for the 1969 I knew. 4/14/2012 1810 cj See heartunes 1969 to read it all google heartunes ..
Nice to go with the Moonlight sonata
@outerbrass : He said he once studied under a famous batik master in Bali a few years earlier. He spent most of his time alone deep into his work. He churned out quite a few batiks during that period getting ready for the big Sunshine Festival in Honolulu. He cleaned up. People swooped on them. All his batiks sold.
@outerbrass ; Francois lived up the trail my treehouse. He had the most beautiful bamboo & plastic home in the village. He had a painting on his wall I recognized as being the little castle on the shoreline where we once surfed in Biarritz SW France. I visited occasionally, attracted by his beautiful work, his house and his French cooking. He was a master chef (this starving young hippie thought) but most of all he was just a good person. I could also talk to him about surfing in France.
@outerbrass : If I owned one of his batiks I would never sell it. The value of his work? To me, priceless.
Good morning, I have an original painting by a resident of Taylor Camp his name is Francois Boschard. I am seeking to find out more about him and the value of this artwork. A friend of mine gave it to me. I would be happy to email you an image. Thanks Bruce - brroyer@cox.net

I've only toured on the North shore. I could only dream of what hippie heaven it must have been like 40 years ago.
@axlsparadise987 See the movie called TAYLOR CAMP full of great images of that magical era. DVDs are available - I just picked one up. Check out the TH-cam movie trailer.
@finntastikone Inexplicably that brilliant young French Hippy artist Francois Boschard was omitted from the documentary TAYLOR CAMP where he once lived and painted. And his was the best and most creative treehouse in that whole village of treehouses.
@lapere All too true, only the ignorant would call Manson a hippy.
If you remember the 60s, you weren't there
Mahalo. I always wondered. He gave me a couple of his batiks back in '71. We shared many good conversations.
Hi Kauaiphil, I knew Francoise Bouchard a French hippie artist who studied under Eastern batik masters. He had the best treehouse in Taylor Camp and produced some of the finest batiks I have ever seen. Last time I saw him in '85 he had an Art Gallery/Restaurant in Haleiwa. He has died since but his memory lives on in his wonderful batiks.
Great post. I came to Kauai the first time in 1971, just after graduating from the Uiversity of Texas. Stayed 6 months. Worked at the Kauai Museum. Visited Taylor Camp sometimes on the weekends. Spent an evening with Howard Taylor at his house, drinking wine and talking philosophy (my B.A.). Was "Frenchy" the batik artist still there in '73? I'm back on Kauai now for 8 years, on the road to find out. Mahalo.
Sorry, not Denise from Northern California.
"To protect the innocent" . . . . please expand a little on your memory. I will let you know if you are right or wrong (within the limitations of my hazy memory). lol
That legendary female surfer BOBO used to swim to Kalalau naked ! ! ! ! And then continue on around to Polihale Beach to hitchhike home from there. She is featured in the new movie TAYLOR CAMP . . . . check out the film trailer here on TH-cam.
Yes several times. I used to run that trail barefooted, i.e.return leg with an empty backpack. Hiking in with a full pack was of course a different story. Overnight stay at Hanakoa made it a lot easier. Lots of great memories stored in my TH-cam slideshows KALALAU BEACH and KALALAU VALLEY by skystudiohawaii. Best you go before school is out say early May.
Those lightweight hammocks are a great alternative to that hard ground. Isn't that a bit ambitious to do it all in one day? Some may call it sacrilege not to spend at least a week in Kalalau exploring the valley and pools and allowing time for Kalalau's legendary healing powers to rejuvenate you.
Thanks f1r9a4c9is . . . appreciated. I lived in Taylor camp in 1973. May have seen you wander through. They just finished making a movie called TAYLOR CAMP full of great images of that magical era. DVDs are available - I just picked one up. Check out the TH-cam movie trailer.
