For handymen or technicians they are just scammers. I mean, it was good idea when I started working with them a few years ago, now optimization went too far. To me it looks like just question of time when they start scam customers. I mean, I would think ten times before registering credit card with them.

he never mentions that people out in the suburbs are lazy and dont care about advertising and they dont do research or references. all they want to do is click on something and have someone to the work for them. youre not going to get into rich neighborhoods without getting in online. the trick is to get lawn signs with qr codes. to get signage on your vans with qr codes. whenever youre in a area and can walk off a sugar spike, leaflet the houses around it with a flyer that has a qr code, mention youre working nearby, and have your own website with work history, examples with pictures, a youtube blog to introduce yourself, and all of that. you'll get better jobs without any cut going to a.l. and you'll build a presence in the area. face it. the world is going online, especially in the burbs. people are paranoid and they should be. a.l. knows this. i had a buddy who would go door to door in the city and beat the pavement for jobs. he ended up getting really shitty leads for barely any money. once he started paying for leads and then building his own online presence he started subbing jobs and making big money. its depends, and its about how far you want to commit.

Thumbtack is horrible absolutely horrible

A negative is they will send that out out to a batch of people then in a couple of days they'll send it out to another batch of people you are already two days behind

I am trying to cancel the thumbtack service I did not know that I should not have booked. I cannot find a way to cancel the service, but cannot find it.

I am in Arizona. I very very unhappy with Angi's. They sent the leads to too many people. They charge from $35.00 to $100.00 for every lead they send you. Some of the leads are not from fake people. They charge you automatically and if you want your money back they give you credit. You are force to stay with them because you have the credit and they don't give you the money. They charge you automatically for membership about $275.00, if you want two days later cancel, they don't refund your money. They do it so you stay with because you want to get some for your money. I decided to still cancel because I don't want to deal with again.

It's absurd that I'm paying almost as much as I charge for a session, especially when many leads don't convert into bookings or repeat clients. I've been charged over $180+ for leads where one client couldn't afford services, and another didn't respond. This feels like I'm working for Thumbtack, not myself. It's a nonsensical setup where Thumbtack profits while professionals like me lose out. I currently working on a full refund for these misleading and expensive leads. This experience has been unacceptable, and I strongly advise against using Thumbtack for any professional services. They’re SCAMMERS!!

I have a residential and commercial cleaning business that generates $500,000 yearly and I beg you to stay away from Angi. The vetting system they have is horrible. Do not waste your money. Use Google local ads instead.

Based on what others have reported, I think I’m one of the few that has been (mostly) happy with thumbtack. I have an AV business that focuses on residential install (home theater, home audio, TV mounting). I’m starting to transition to Google / my website at this point but Thumbtack still lands me solid leads occasionally. I’ve spent thousands and made tens of thousands using thumbtack over the past year. Thumbtack spends big $ on advertising and their SEO is on point. So being one of the highest rated pros in my category, it’s free marketing for myself. If you’re just starting out, thumbtack makes things very simple since you just do the background check / build your profile. Overall I’d say if you’re in a high demand trade and know how to provide 5-star service, give it a shot. Just make sure to set your weekly budget low and go from there.

Don't do thumbtack. They have terrible customer service- worse, they don't even have it. I have gotten scammed from customers and get charged.

In general, I’ve found that it doesn’t work out well when you are asked to pay money to sign up for a service (contract) where you then have to pay for goods or services. I have no problem paying for advertising, marketing, etc but paying for the privilege to pay for stuff isn’t where it’s at

ANGI and HOMEADVISOR are horrible businesses that charge local contractors way too much money, which in turn raises the fees they have to charge you. Contact and get quotes directly from the contractors. Search the web for options. When you sign into Angi, they sell your project, name number, and email to 3-6 contractors who then RACE to contact you. They have already paid $$ for your information. They then need to get more $$$ out of you. Angi walks away with 6x$$ for doing nothing. and 5 contractors are out $$. Boo Hoo that's business you say? Is it good business when the cost of sales for small local contractors ranges from 40-70% of the job? Is it good business when these small contractors fail and all of a sudden you have no choice but to use a large expensive firm or no firm at all? Is it good business when you get inundated with calls and emails?
