I like the character of Alyce Sinner a lot. I could see her having potential for a few more stories if we pair her with other villains, say: 1) Play with her name a bit. Have her manipulate the Mad Hatter and take charge of the Wonderland Gang because she convinces him that she is his “Alice”. 2) Connect her with someone like Deacon Blackfire. Maybe her parents were a part of his cult and he resents her for what she did to them while she hates him for being the reason her parents’ faith that caused her to suffer so much.

What ever happened to the TH-cam channel run by Joshua Hayes? He was so passionate and insightful in his stuff, I figure you guys would collaborate or talk at some point

I know ppl aren’t crazy about “The Best of Gotham” but that’s why I watched this video to make sure it was included. I just really like the artwork. 😆 “Snap” is one of my favorites too.

I just knew about this book today. A third of the issues are in the Silver Age Vol 1 Omnibus that I have, so I´m reading them in preparation for a full read of Morrison Batman run and Final Crisis.

This was an incredible story. Seems that without the bat the Joker really has no reason to exist. Trying to 'go sane' didn't exactly silence those demons, though. But I truly believed he'd have tried if the bat really had died.

Ive just read it. That second episodes art is terrible. I still don't know what to make of the ending either.

Just read this trade. It's well written and illustrated and it kept my attention despite how dense it was. I took it as an out of continuity Batman story with a very dark take and I think it mostly works if you go into it with that perspective. ...Except the ending. I remember thinking "this story will be one of the greats if the writer sticks the landing" but they didn't. The villain was murky and poorly defined. If they streamlined the plot threads a bit and gave some exposition explaining "the Body," I think it would have pulled it off. I think if this was an X-files episode (because this was a paranormal horror story once everything is revealed) Mulder would have given some dialog explaining what they were dealing with at the end.

The eaglemoss version of this is superior i think because of glossy paper and hardcover

Just read the knightfall saga where the Troika story is teased (during the prodigal arc) so if anyone knows where to find a Troika TPB at a reasonable price, I might be interested!

Not sure if I'm the only one but this story was terribly hard to understand. I don't really get who the villain is? I suppose the message is the underlying corruption of Gotham or humanity as a whole? Appreciate the video 🙂

Being a fan of artists is subjective. In my opinion sam kieth is a great artist I just have to live with the fact people aren't going to like his style of art.

Happy new year. Great review. I used to have this book until I gave it to a buddy who's very happy to have it. Imo, for the most part, I didn't like the story. There are literally a few moments in the book that I thought were cool and funny and memorable, but it's not a book I would read again. The few parts that I liked, I'll remember them years from now because they're that entertaining. The art is pretty good. 2/10 🦇

I am a huge Sam Kieth fan, stories like this one you definitely do have to take more with a grain of salt, I always want to see his art, I do prefer more of his 90's work. Hes done some of the most iconic wolverine covers, and love seeing when his stuff was on news print. His work is always very much his own style, but he does have different variations of his own style, I think his work is kind of a cross of Simone Bisley and Bill Sienkiewicz , who are very experimental themselves as well.

Shaman is a great Year 1 companion that adds a bit more lore to the legend that is Batman.

Just picked this up on ebay for 1 euro looking forward to reading it always seen it getting slated so I gave it a miss

I liked this story. More because of the secondary stuff rather than the main villain. I loved the development of the relationship between Gordon and Batman in the earliest years of his career ( I think actually very little time passed from Year One), the reminding presence of the corrupt police, the appearances of Catwoman and Harvey Dent and the final tie in to The Man Who Laughs. I feel like even if the main villain was not as memorable as some other classic ones, it's still an important step in Batman's overall story

The art is begging for an absolute edition.

I got it recently and I really enjoyed it, it's a solid Batman story, all the characters were on point, the art was very good, the emotional moments landed (especially the ones with time drake) and it was satisfyingly self-contained, it isn't anything revolutionary but it's not trying to be that, it's only trying to be a fun action-packed straight forward adventure with the bat family, and in my opinion, it definitely succeeds in that, a solid 4/5.

This crossed over into another 30 issues not collected in this trade. The Bat-related titles do indeed delve further into the Oracle drama you allude to here and are worth tracking down. The non Bat-related title tie-ins are just goofy publicity ploys.
