Marathon training with Lacey
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 พ.ย. 2011
Once a recreational trail runner from Utah, now an amateur distance runner living in Texas. Watch my videos as I go through marathon training for the first time and discuss how my running experience has evolved in the past 5 years as I've moved from peaks to plains.
Marathon Training with Lacey: RACE WEEK!! (Week 21, RACE DAY, Immediate post-marathon thoughts)
BIG THANKS to everyone who followed along and supported me! I had a ton of fun training and making these silly videos to journal the experience.
STAY TUNED for another video where I break down the marathon experience a bit more and discuss the 3 THINGS I regret and 3 THINGS I am proud of regarding race day and my first marathon training cycle.

Congratulations on your achievement! That's an excellent time!
That's a damn-fine effort and result, especially for a first marathon - congratulations to you!
What marathon training program did you use?
Awesome achievement! =D Congrats.
Congratulations, Lacey, a fantastic achievement. Just to put things into perspective, I've run 95 races and never done a marathon. My mind and body are in conflict as to whether it's a good idea or not! A really good time , well done, and I hope your aches and pains go away as soon as possible.👏👏👏
Congrats!
I just started running, did you ever experience calve pain? If so, what did you do to help with that problem?
You're amazing! Good luck on your marathon! My 1st will be this fall and hoping for a 12 min mile pace. You got this!
Wow Lacey like your energy and endurance to run marathons, Love to Armwrestle Your Impressive Guns 💪💪👍👍
I'm cheering you on every step of the way. Your marathon training is inspiring!
I'm so excited to follow your marathon journey! I know you'll crush it.
Do you plan on running the marathon on feel or do you have pace/HR targets in mind? Good luck on Saturday!
Im hoping to find a sweet spot between 9:00-10:00 min/miles. It’s my 1st time so I don’t wanna go crazy, but if everything is on my side, I’d love to shoot closer to a 9 min average, but we’ll see!
💪 you got this
That was great getting that super long run done. Hope you didn't get too dehydrated! =D
Almost there!! Good luck with your race!!
Good luck with the race. We will be rooting for you.
Great job! I’m a 1at timer and slower runner. Appreciate yiur videos. I have gotten to fountains and pushed and no water too. Hate that
Hi, I am new Subscriber maam i like you☺
Hi Lacey, do you use strava? It would be good to encourage you and give you kudos after your runs 🏃♀️
I’m still on Nike Run Club which I joined in 2018, I am planning on switching to Strava after this training cycle 👍
😊
Good luck on your marathon-Nice job on your long run
Nice run Lacey! What kind of hydration vest is that? I have the one where it has a water pouch in the back and it can get heavy depending how much water u put in it. Is that one better for your hydration you think ? It holds water bottles?
I just bought the basic aonijie one on Amazon! It’s been great and all the adjustable straps make it fit nicely. I too use a water bladder, I also bought one on Amazon. It is a 1.5 Liter bladder so a lot smaller than your usual one that you would bring hiking. I only fill it up with about 20 oz of my electrolytes so it’s not too heavy especially after Im well into my run, since Im drinking it. I like it because I hate carrying things in my hands during runs. I also have a hard time drinking while running so it’s nice to use the bladder because it’s easy to consume liquid through the tube without choking on the water. Def comes down to personal preference, hope that helps!
Thank you Lacey! i will look into it, i got the 20 dollor one from wal mart called ozark hydration vest but im not sure if it was light weight enough. I noticed this one has bowel water tube and a front part for hydration bottle and looks light weight. Nice 20 miler by the way! do u think its better to do your 18-20 milers at a lower heart rate effort in training?
Hey Lacey i was about to order the AONIJIE hydration vest after see good reviews on it. My question do u think it will be ok to put gatorade or powerade in the bladder? for electrolytes. Because ive heard others say it can be hard clean and cause mold putting other things besides water in it, is it ok put gatorade in it u think? or would it be better use gatorade in bottles for front part of vest?
@@SuperTreybo I put electrolytes with the bladder I bought. The vest does not come with one. But as long as you rinse and clean it as soon as you get home, there won’t be mold growth and it stays fresh. I have one of those straw cleaners to help clean out the spigot. The nice thing about the one I have you can detach the hose part from the bladder so it’s easy to run/blow water through that part to clean it. If you don’t want the hassle then a bottle would be a little easier maintenance wise but for me it’s worth it.
Looks like you're crushing training -- great work!
Define "Commitment": Complete an 18-mile training run, and then go get ready for work!!! This is one reason why my long runs are on the weekend! Big "Ups" to you, and best wishes for the future!
Thanks for the comment!
I’m glad you mentioned about zone 2 training. I’m struggling with this, I’ve been trying it for a couple weeks and I’m getting so frustrated that my pace is still so slow. I feel fine but yet my heart rate stays in zone 3, and like you said I’m going so stinking slow. And yeah, I don’t have infinite amounts of time to be running high mileage at a crawl. I’m not really decided about how to proceed, I will start training for my first half marathon in a few months so I guess I will keep trying it for a while.
I totally understand where you are coming from. I will say I’ve used a bit more of Z2 in this training cycle. I’ve stuck to doing a Z2 run at least once a week, usually the day after a long run or speed workout where I don’t mind going slow. I’m not at the point of keeping my long runs in Z2 or the majority of runs that way, I’m like you more so in Z3/Z4 but I will say just doing 4-5 miles a week is a great place to start and my zone 2 time has improved a lot and enabled me to add extra miles to the week when the mileage is high! Thanks for the comment!
Which state is that if I may ask? Good luck for the marathon!
West Texas!
You’ve got a beautiful spot to run!
great job Lacey!
great job lacey and an absolutely beautiful day for a run
Great Run!
How was that chia seed gel ?
The gel has a very natural taste to it, like a homemade jam. Also was very easy to stomach. It didn’t give me quite the same energy boost as GU or SIS but still a tasty choice to add to the mix!
Keep it up
good luck with the training! :)
Great insights! Long runs can be tough but keep your overall goal of completing the marathon in the back of your mind to help you through it! Best of luck
Podcast work great to pass the time. These runs should be slow. Fueling and hydrating become very important after 10-12 miles. Eat lots of protein after the runs for a quick recovery. I know it can be expensive but a good air relax machine helps speed up recovery. Adding a mile or two every week won’t seem like you’re adding a lot. After a few weeks you’ll be at 16-17 miles and 13 will seem like a walk in the park.
Great job! I’ve never tried the SIS but I’m going to now that you mentioned them. I’m training for a half marathon (my 1st). Your videos are motivating!
Proud of you👍🔥
For the long runs I think breaking it up into chunks mentally helps getting through it, so for a 15 mile run you can just think of it as three 5 mile runs and it helps a bit lol. Or just toss on a long audiobook and let that distract from the distance 👍
Thank you for this realistic and honest evaluation of your training process! I used to be a distance runner but have dropped off in recent years. I do have flat feet and require a lot of stabilization in my shoes, but am hoping to get back to running in the next few days.
Fantastic!
Just found your channel, great videos you're a natural in front of the camera. Good luck with the training 👍👍

Some great training, keep at it 👌
