    Posted as reply below but it'll no doubt get buried and not read so here is as a stand alone; I wouldn't let Husky maintenance schedules turn people off, unless they are worried about warranty issues. I have a FE501 and do oil, air filter etc every 2000km, or about 50 hours. Oil changes at 5 or even 10 hours are simply not required unless you are racing perhaps. It's over maintenance. I typically take the 501 out once every second weekend for an 8-12 hour ride. No way am I changing oil every ride. World class riders have done long arduous adventure tours for thousands of km over weeks on KTM/Husky 500s and they typically change oil/filters every 2000km (if they can) no5-10 hours. Servicing and selling oil , filters etc is a third of dealers income stream. Of course they have BS service schedules. I put it in for a shop major service at 6000km. No issues. The only things I have changed post that besides tyres is the chain and sprocket. Forget 12000km I reckon I'll be waiting until 18K for my next shop service. Don't buy into the service schedule BS - it's about money for dealers more than care of the bike under normal vs racing usage.

    Great honest comparison of the two bikes. While most of us want to think we are ‘motorcross’ riders, the 300L can do everything we are capable of doing. I have upgraded the rear to a k-tech shock and added the extra race-tech front spring and my 300L is way better, both on and off road. The maintenance schedule is another reason that for me the 300L is a better choice. You summed it up when you said you want to go ride to relax, the 300L does that perfect. What tires are you running, sounded like you said ‘goldens’?

    I installed a Cyclops LED in a CRF250L and it had an odd light pattern. I put a Sealight LED in a Yamaha FZ07 & it worked great. So, I put a Sealight LED in my 300L it works great as well. I don’t know if it’s the LEDs or the headlight reflectors that are making the difference.

    I love my Rally. My buddy has the standard L model, and he loves his too. Both of us have owned many bikes in our lifetime, from mini bikes, to monster power houses, and these bikes just do it all, and you get So much for the dollar. Granted, I’ve had my Rally for several years now, so I’ve had plenty time to decide whether or not I would be keeping it for a long time or not, and I don’t think I would had dumped close to $2k into it if I weren’t. It was a good bike when I bought it, and it has only gotten better and better.

And everyone that says how soft the power is, doesn't understand how the power valve adjustments affects power delivery...the thing can be tuned in minutes to go from a mellow trail bike to a fire breathing dragon. Now, going back to the coil spring forks...that just might sway me!

I have got a 350s, 701, 890adv and honestly I just want something to get something in the 300-500 range that slow and dependable with long maintenance intervals. The 701 and 890 are great, but get too exhausting and unmanageable on technical rides for me. The 350s a billy goat...with 466 miles intervals, You can do that in a 2 days. I've had really good luck with the Motoz Rallz tires.

    Thank for the review. Wish we had flowing smooth trails like that in Arizona! I've only ridden mine around my property thus far. Hard to describe, but compared to me 2022 500 EXCF, it's just fun. I've never been able to nail some of Rich Larson's techniques, but experienced serious improvement after just a few rides on the 300 XCW. I love my 500, just installed the lucky cartridges up front and national shock, incredible difference compared to the stock WP crap on the 2022s, I like a more plush ride. I think that's the only thing I need to get tuned in on my 2024 300, perhaps a little more plush on the suspension. Surprisingly, I just checked SAG, and it's set perfectly for my 202 lb geared up weight. I'm surprised as I'm sure the spring rate is a little under for my weight, but that's the way it came from the dealership. I've heard some people are replacing the linear rate spring with a progressive rate spring in the rear.

    • @oregonmotojohn
      @oregonmotojohn หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MarkSpencerAZ Great info, yes, what a difference suspension makes.I was surprised that my rear didn't need a new spring rate as well. We got lucky! It is crazy how much fun these two strokes can be! Enjoy the ride! 👍 👌

    Are you still running the Med Comp TSP Head and insert? I know TBI vs TPI, but on my 23 Husky I installed the TSP reflash and head kit with the med compression insert but it was really aggressive in the trails so I went back to the Low Comp insert and it made trail riding so much more enjoyable.

    • @oregonmotojohn
      @oregonmotojohn หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tawerner2 Hi, thanks for chiming in! All excellent points you make. The TSP ECU reflash comes with two maps, I do run the less aggressive map on the trail and the more aggressive map everywhere else. Because I can run the less aggressive map, it probably makes the medium compression head a little more mellow. This is functional using the stock map switch that came with the bike, only one map is downloaded from two stroke performance, but with the stock map switch from KTM, the TSP maps are both preserved and functional. If I couldn't run the easier map on the trails, it would be a bit much, I agree 100%. Very good point!
