    Invest first or pay off your house first. Either should work if you have enough time to accomplish both. So you'll see people argue either way until the end of times. When it matters is when you don't have enough time. The most efficient method is to invest first then pay off your house. This assumes the mortgage interest rate is low, otherwise this isn't even worth debating. You are already doing that without realizing you're doing it. You make the money then use the money to pay your expenses. If you are working you are doing just that. Whether its work, your own business, or investments, you make the money then use it to pay your expenses. Let's look at it another way. If you could have one of these today, which would you choose. A paid off house or financial independence? Again, let's look at another perspective. If you find out you have 2 years left on this Earth, would you rather have $0 and a $500K home, or $500K and no home? The most important thing to me is being able to have the money to survive, then I can focus on the quality of life. If I don't have enough money to live I'll sell the house. So my focus is to invest until the investment can cover the basics, then I can worry about paying off the house faster. A paid off house is nice if you still have enough money to pay the rest of your expenses. In a similar fashion, its also why saving an emergency fund is the highest priority.

    • @ayooluwaijarogbe
      @ayooluwaijarogbe 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Insightful comment, thank you. I like that you are focusing on investment to cover the basics and paying off the house comes after.

    Groceries are my biggest expense, because I like to eat healthy and mostly organic, it costs a lot more. I normally go to three different grocery stores, each one is cheaper on some things than the other. The farmers market is also a good place to get your produce cheaper

    Very informative. However, what’s you take on Canadians who want to invest in US etf; in terms of conversion rate. Also, some persons suggest using the rrsp instead of the Tfsa for these type of etf

    • @ayooluwaijarogbe
      @ayooluwaijarogbe 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s always a good idea to hold some US ETFs in your portfolio, you can compare platforms to see what the conversion rate is like and go for the most favorable. A good place to start is Wealthsimple. When you get paid dividends from these ETFs, it is subject to withholding tax if the ETFs are held in a TFSA which will ultimately reduce your return. However, if the ETFs are held in a RRSP, the withholding tax is waived.

    • @ayooluwaijarogbe
      @ayooluwaijarogbe 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s always a good idea to have US ETFs in your portfolio. A quick comparison of the conversion rates offered by the different investing platforms will give you an idea of the best platform to use. If any of these US ETFs are held in a TFSA, dividends paid to you will attract the 15% withholding tax and this will reduce your returns. However, if the ETFs are held in a RRSP, the withholding tax is waived/avoided.

    I guess I never understood the point of designer items. There are extremely well designed and well-constructed clothing and accessories that don't have the price tag. I don't want knock offs, but I don't want the real thing either. Especially in our current political climate, where Nike puts a sports bra on a man and Balenciaga puts fetish gear on children. I'm good without somebody else's name scrawled across my chest or stamped on my derriere.
