The First Cosmonaut - A Short Film
A short film we made for a NASA online video competition back in 2017. A fictional story of a first-person in space who gets dislodged from their craft. Their body floats into a neighboring solar system as they become the first cosmonaut to explore a galaxy past ours.

Health Bars In VN Maker
มุมมอง 7073 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey everyone. So in this tut, I show you how to make #healthbars in #visualnovelmaker It's a lot simpler than you probably are thinking and once it's set up, very easy to change values and percentages. This tut does require a little knowledge about Number Variables but even if you haven't used them before, I explain the parts you need to know. Hope this helps. See you on the next one.
How to upload a game to Steam
มุมมอง 177K3 ปีที่แล้ว
See a lot of people asking how to upload a game on steam. This is my walkthrough, and you can easily repeat these steps every time you have a new build/version of your game that you need to upload. Link for Steamworks: partner.steamgames.com/doc/sdk Please also check this documentation and make sure your app id's are set up properly otherwise you might get a configuration error: partner.steamga...
I seem to keep getting an error whenever I try to upload the second depot, which is my Linux build. It says that access was denied.
Are you running the app as "administrator"? If not, right click on the icon and choose "Run as Administrator". Also make sure that you've set up a linux version in your steamworks. This should be in the Application> General> "Supported Operating Systems" section. Then go to Steampipe>depots>"add a new depot" and make sure it's the linux version you set up.
Whenever I upload a new depot and make it the default branch, it merges the build with previous depots for some reason. Not sure why exactly.
Hmm, havent heard of anyone running into that issue. I would contact Steam support on your developer page and ask what's going on.
Still works! Absolute King
Great to hear! You're very welcome.
That will work on a MacBook Pro?
I believe the SDK is PC only, but I could be wrong.
hey man great video God bless
@@BSSC1775 thanks! Glad it was helpful.
Would you make an updated tutorial on this same title for late 2024 or early 2025 version? thanks, great video (subscribed the channel and liked the video)
Am I able to give a game code to friends to test play my game?
@@ReaperKumahKitsune yes. You can request game codes through the dashboard. I think it takes up to 2-3 days at the most to receive them. You can also get developer codes for your team who helped work on the game for testing purposes.
Anyone know where to find a tutorial for SteamCMD on terminal for Mac?
@@MeteorwaveGaming as far as I'm aware, it's only for PC but you can always contact Steam support.
god, it just never works, ever, i tried every video just doesn't work, i give up on itch then god
Don't you have to pay $100 for your game to be uploaded on Steam?
Yes. This is for the steps after that.
not warking
Well, I'll need more info than that to help you.
How do I update a game that's already been released? When I click "publish build", a red message appears: "Failed to send SMS". Steam used to let developers update their games, but now, in September 2024, something happened to them. How will developers fix bugs and add improvements now?
Reach out to steam support. This sound like an internal error of some kind. There should be no reason you can't update your own game.
Yeah this simplifies it way more than steams documentation. So here’s my big question I’ve been wondering: Is there more needed on our end for implementing security like file encryption, authentication, needing to lock/encrypt any specific files? Like does Steamworks require or highly recommend that you implement some API by them or anything? I’m not sure how hands on steam is with preventing hackers from modifying your game files. Or since my game is multiplayer - how can I protect my end users so their host info like their IP is not vulnerable and public. If it is all up to us devs- any advice for us? Id say this is a pretty crucial topic that surprisingly doesn’t get addressed anywhere
this is realy nice and simple tutorial ....but first of all you should mention the 100 bucs fee for each game or aplication you want to upload on steam ! ....this is finst thing you should mention :D
@@MaxStudioCG2023 I thought most people viewing this would already be past the $100 setup fee. Glad you liked the tut.
@@skyridestudios well nope, coz is alot setup on the 100$ fee ...there are cases like me when is first time trying to upload something on steam and is like you starting from zero you don.t know basicaly anything how to setup this ....otherwise why we searching this kind of video on youtube ...
@@skyridestudios Initialy i only needed the API KEY ,i tryed to upload on Playfad a comunity version of GAS multiplayer wich i put togheder from more packs but right now it only have LAN for local ...so i was thinking make something for people to be able to join on steam and play .....So i started with playfab and steam ,ok done the 5 bucs requirement for the API KEY but there is second requirement for the ID wich you can only get from the paying the 100 $ fee :))))) .....so i stopped here my attempt :))))))))
wow nice. I have to watch it twice for understanding this process. Good job!
Thank you so much
@GOODLIFENOW you're very welcome. Glad it was helpful.
I'm getting ACCESS DENIED all the time, how do I setup it to run as admin?
Right click the app icon and choose "Run as administrator"
@@skyridestudios i did that to steampipegui but didn’t help
@badjano huh. I would contact steam support. There should be no reason that wouldn't work unless credentials are wrong?
3:36 When I change the new game build to be the default, Steam keeps trying to merge in my previous game build into the new one I uploaded. Is there a way to disable this?
There isn't a way to disable it, as far as I'm aware. That's how their uploads are designed. They're supposed to upload only the files that have changed since your previous build. You could ask steam support and see if there's something they can do on their end or if there's a way to go around it. My only thought would be to upload a txt file as the game build (as this would change all the build files) and then upload your new game build. But I've never tried it.
@@skyridestudios I tried uploading a text file in a folder as a game build and it worked! Thanks for replying so quickly!
do i just upload the .exe file?
No, you need to upload all relevant game files.
Thank you so much!! Insta new sub here❤😊
So glad it was helpful! And thank you.
Is it possible to add games that were made in the coding website “scratch”
As long as you can export a exe or mac version, you can. If the game runs off a website browser, I'd suggest Itch.io
@@skyridestudios thanks, I’ll see if I can get it to work
1:34 you blurred out the app ID in the title, but it is still in the address bar up top
All good. Thanks.
will I still have to pay $100?
Yes
Thanks for posting this, I ran into a hiccup where I had to launch Butler with Windows PowerShell instead(right click butler application<Open in Terminal), but everything else worked out pretty smoothly.
Can i make my page public so people can add it to the wishlist? even if it's not uploaded yet?
Yes, but you have to go through the check list first and set up your store page. Once that gets approved and goes live, people can see the page and wishlist.
@skyridestudios Thank you!. i am right now working on the photos dimensions (header, vertical, etc...)
@@SoloGameDeveloper Good luck! Those are such a pain.
After I clicked upload it asked for a steam guard code. They emailed me a code that I had to type in. Before the first time uploading there is nothing in the build page on steam. After you click upload then it shows up. Thanks for the great tutorial.
You are a life saver!
I'm glad it was helpful. Have a good one.
Thanks, man!
my app id is not here!😡
You'll need to manually input your appID yourself.
Help. Invalid password. I made sure the the password is correct :(
It should be the same exact username/password you use to log into steamworks.
@@skyridestudios unfortunately and sadly not. It is just a straight copy paste, but it doesnt work, really. If it works I would not be reaching here or steam help desk. Tried to add SteamGuard number at the end of the password, also tried with +, doesnt work as well.
@@calvinms7503 And just confirming that you made a steamworks account and have purchased an appID, correct?
@@skyridestudios Yes I do, that is why I am very confuse about this. My friend has his won steam page, and because his build is below 2 GB, he also decided to manually upload it from the browser instead of using the app.

Is it possible to upload a halflife mod
It would need to be approved by Steam before being published. I'm not sure about mods.

BEST TUTO 💪💪👍👍👍👍
Thank you! Good luck on your project.
you're a life-saver! I'm a programmer and got their standard tutorial to work, but it's still such a pain modifying the text files everytime you need to update things. A nice GUI is so much easier, thanks for putting this together.
So happy it was useful! Yeah, I dunno why they have that as their main tutorial. Good luck on your project! Feel free to post a link to it on here when it's up and ready.
at 0:38 your information is visible please be careful
Hey, thank you so much for this tutorial! I just have one question since you haven't mentioned the Steam fee. When am I supposed to pay the $100 fee: before or after the process?
Hey! Yeah, sorry about that. The $100 fee would be placed in the beginning. They will then give you an app ID and you can create depots. Good luck with your project.
Mate, you have NO IDEA how much this helped me. Thank you so much for showing this step by step, you're a life saver. For those of you getting an error in the GUI that says "ERROR! Failed to initialize build on server" it's because you are trying top upload to a depot that hasn't been published. You need to click 'publish' before you upload to a depot.
So glad it was helpful! And thanks for the error fix!
Do i need to pay
Yup, $100 Steam fee in order to get a app id. If you already have one, then no.
error "'butler' is not recognized as an internal or external command," when I run your batch file after changing out my own projects location and names. ?
right click on butler exe and create a shortcut on the desktop right click on the shortcut created > properties and copy the destination open cmd and write: cd and right click (copy the destination) and press enter from now on every command of butler works example. cd C:\Users\yourname\Documents\butler
This is so old... and not valid anymore.... - delete this video please
What exactly isnt valid? And what did you find that surpasses it?
How do I find out the app ID and depot ID?
You have to purchase a app id from steamworks for $100 (for any new game you are trying to upload). Then, once you have that, you can create depots that are linked to the app id.
You forgot to blur out the app id number once, and you can also see through the blurred ones if you try hard enough
Thanks. These aren't important unless someone has your log in info. It was mostly to keep viewers focused on the important stuff. Appreciate the heads up.
@@skyridestudios Currently developing my own app I'm planning to release to steam, and was just doing some research beforehand, so I just wanted to let you know as I wasn't sure how important that id was, so you don't accidentally leak anything
@@Krullfath Apprecaite you. Thanks for looking out. 🙂
Hi, I can’t seem to find the answer . So say you publish your game as free, but in game you have a PayPal button to purchase stuff, this goes directly to PayPal and back to the game. Does steam take percentages on that?
There a lot of hoops you have to jump through in order for Steam to allow you to have something like a donation button on your game. Basically, you can try to implement it, however, during the review process, they may ask for you to remove it. Steam wouldn't get a % (as far as I know) but they wouldn't even let me keep a link to my own website in the end screen of my own game.
@@skyridestudiosok I see, if you publish it for free then they say no payment button allowed how to you then put your game for a price at that point ?
@@RexSmithII free or paid doesn't matter. Steam will still have to check the game before they let you release it.
@@skyridestudios i understand that, so if I start as free then decide to charge do I have to start the entire process over?
@@RexSmithII no, you can change pricing as often as you like. I believe it takes 24hrs to take effect.

Why were you trying to hide app and depot ids? They are public xD
Great video, however my game is not a .exe it's a .z80 so how do I add it to Steam?

You're very welcome! Glad it was helpful.
Hey there, I think you should take the video down because since Your app id and stuff are shown clearly at 0:38 Thank you
Thanks for the concern, but it's not blurred for privacy reasons. The app id is useless without the steamworks login. Have a great day.
Can butler only do updates or can you use it to post completely new games? I'm having trouble uploading my prototype via butler
