NHS Western Isles, which is part of NHS Scotland, provides a complete and comprehensive range of healthcare services to the population of the Western Isles. NHS Western Isles (otherwise known as Western Isles Health Board) is made up of approximately 26,500 people living and working within the Western Isles area, and we employ around 1030 staff.
The Western Isles (also known as the Outer Hebrides) is an archipelago of 11 populated islands located 40 miles off the North West coast of Scotland, and is 130 miles long from the Butt of Lewis in the North to the Isle of Barra in the South. The resident population of the Western Isles is spread over 280 townships.
