First flight with a Chase-cam - Thanks Nathan for the Christmas prezzie! Lumpy air, narrow thermals and sink made for a shorter flight for me today or I'm just crap. When I caught the chase-cam in my periphery vision, it was a little startling, like someone was too close to me and I noticed shouting at it doesn't help!

Day 3 footage. Not the best example of how to do it. I re-collapsed the wing on the final check on one or two. A problem with not releasing the wrap on the brakes. amongst other things. All I can really say is "I did it", lots of room for improvement. I felt safer about my wings performance, way more than the pilot underneath.

      It's been so long. The Santa Barbara flyers know when Pine is on. They're on Telegram, ask there or at Eagle Paragliding. If it's not a very thermic day, it's easy to get caught out, get a good site briefing.

    Turned out pretty good. What a beautiful day!! I have that same chase cone, still haven't used it. I think the secret to making it not swing is ballast. We've been flying a quite a bit - picking less common sites to match the weather. Hike and fly at Ave L in Palmdale for instance. The last couple of weeks have been high wind speed and getting pinned with only the speed bar to move forward - not my favorite conditions, but it's been very laminar. Did high wind kiting at Sylmar LZ on Sunday - I'm still sore today. They're flying today while I'm stuck at work - so inconsiderate.

    Awesome wing! I am looking to buy the Buzz Z6 myself but I am experiencing crippling decision fatigue as far as choosing a color haha. As it has been a bit over a year and a half since you posted this video, may I ask how the vibrancy of these darker colors has held up? If you were to buy this wing again, would you have chosen different colors? I personally prefer the darker/more blue wing colors, but after hearing/reading about a number of accidents this past year, it sounds like brighter, more vivid colors may be advantageous in a search & rescue effort. Would love to hear your thoughts! :)

    • @danielquick6004
      @danielquick6004 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My buddy bought this wing - who I fly with weekly. I think the colors are strong. I bought a GEO 6 in Red, White (thin) Yellow. Custom colors. I got it to be different. Then I noticed others doing custom colors and pick the exact same colors - darn! My buddy's flight time massively increased with the Buzz 6 A real confidence booster. He has 3 other wings - older and spicier. The Buzz is so nice to fly he just stays up. On the colors - we fly dusty launches and the dark colors really show it. Still, if that was a consideration we'd all be flying light grey wings. What part of the world do you fly?

    • @danielquick6004
      @danielquick6004 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would choose the colors that make you the most excited about your wing. Love for your wing will only help reduce the need for search & rescue. The best thing for Search and Rescue is flying with something that gives out your GEO location - What's APP / InReach / APRS and so on.

    • @Andyg2g
      @Andyg2g 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielquick6004, thank you for the feedback! I have been flying the Mojo 6 for about 5 months now and it has treated me very well, but I am excited to move up to the Buzz as I believe the moderately increased performance and speed will better suit the stronger-than-average wind speeds at my local site. I primarily fly at my home site - Point of the Mountain, Utah - which is definitely a dusty and rocky flight site. The way I see it, there is very little I can do to prevent my wing from getting dirty over time at this site, so I may as well just choose the colors that bring me the most personal joy and happiness. If you are willing, perhaps I could get your input and opinion on the color scheme I am thinking of pursuing - I have narrowed it down to two very similar options, the only difference being the trailing edge zone color: Option 1) A/W/K/I; Option 2) A/W/K/L. I was initially leaning toward Option 1 as the colors are just so "me" and I really like the cohesive feel, but after watching your video a few days ago, I've been thinking it might be worth while to consider the "L" colored blue as it is slightly more vibrant than the "I" colored blue. Would you say the "L" colored blue featured in this video - after it has picked up some dirt - looks more like the "I" colored blue? If so, maybe pursuing the "L" colored blue would be my best bet as far as preserving vibrancy. I appreciate your time and thank you in advance! :)

    • @Andyg2g
      @Andyg2g 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And sorry, I mistyped. The blue featured on the trailing edge in this video is the “I” blue - which is what I am leaning toward. Though I think it might be worth while to consider the “L” blue for the sake of preserving vibrancy. Curious about your thoughts there.

      @@Andyg2g A/W/K/I are the same tones - very nice. A brighter version is B/W/K/L which also matches. If A/W/K/I make you smile the most .... It's such a personal thing.

    how do u like the mojo for non powered PG, It's my first wing and i haven't had a chance to fly it yet. Learning free flight and powered flight also. Also did u feel pretty safe on the mojo 5? Mojo 5 how collapse is it compared to new swing? I'm thinking now my next wing will be a swing. Once I get to flying. I like the new design on the swing. Looks like the safest wing i have ever seen.

    • @danielquick6004
      @danielquick6004 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mojo 5 and now 6 is the standard wing most people fly to start with where I fly (Crestline Soaring Association) and the instructors recommend using up its life span before moving on - do your wingovers, spiral dives, stalls on the Mojo - SIV - it's super safe. I find the Nyos has a lot of feedback in active air - mountain flying - and have moved down to the GEO 6 to calm things down - I was having trouble increasing my bump tolerance on the Nyos - I was always safe but too much going on for my comfort level - which I'm slowly improving now. Although the Nyos is easy for ridge soaring and coastal flying. The Nyos is more of an entry-level cross country wing - lots of cells make it rigid and wanting to fly straight. Great performance. Cuts into thermals nice. I did my SIV on the Nyos - it really looked after me with my initial bad timing and it's easy recovery. On my Mojo I was too heavy - right on the top of the weight range - and so if I fell out of the lift - I was landing. People more in the middle of the weight range do much better - although I don't think being lower than the middle is a good idea. - carry water if needed. Collapses on the two wings feel different - the Nyos is very fast recovery and the Mojo slower but the difference is probably a fraction of a second. In active air I got tip flutter on the Nyos unless I fly with a few pounds on the breaks, no tip flutter on the Mojo. As always, everything depends on the air that you fly in - the time of day, your skill level and your bump tolerance but the Mojo 5 is the best place to start - no question. The safest wing is the one you can control the best and are happiest flying - more of a personal thing than specs - which will change over time. Happy flying. PPG is on my todo list, I'm waiting for electric to improve.

    Man, I wish I was there! Been to long. What a beautiful day, nice launch!. BTW the house thermal is a little farther out along that ridge, that was the lift band in front of the Peak, which is always nice when it boosts you up like that. GEOs are so easy to launch, really fun wings, I love mine. They turn like little go-carts. I like mine in mellower conditions like Marshall or Mitch's Ridge toward sunset, had a great flight there Monday, still haven't posted the vid. Today I flew my Nyos in crazy punchy early afternoon thermals at Guadalupe Ridge, I'm always amazed at how solid and forgiving it is, that air would have triggered deflations in my GEO but the Nyos didn't have even a tip flutter. I'll have the video out in a few days. So, time to start flying with external battery power, no more missed landings!

    • @ApoorvBisht
      @ApoorvBisht 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nelson, would you say that even though Nyos feels more collapse resistant that Geo on punchy days, Geo 6 is a more comfortable wing to fly in those days in terms of overall movement of the Glider? I am about to make a switch from my old Low B glider, but do not want to move much far up in En Class.

    Comments are off on your recent video, most likely due to not setting your channel as "not for kids." Chances of lines tangling around a helmet camera are slim. If your lines are that slack, and wrapped around the camera, you have bigger problems. They will also probably be wrapped around your neck. Time to throw your reserve.

    • @danielquick6004
      @danielquick6004 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, comments should be back on. It was mainly kiting that the GoPro bracket kept catching, not even with the camera attached. Annoying. I just need to be more skilled at keeping it clear. I'm so fascinated with all the wings you have. Always interested in your thoughts on the different characteristics of the wings.

      @@danielquick6004 Years ago, I took a sturdy plastic cup, cut the bottom off, cut a slot, and then taped it to the helmet surrounding the GoPro. It worked perfectly for preventing all snags. • @danielquick6004
      @danielquick6004 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did about 7 full stalls, each was different from my unfamiliar input. The break into full-stall and swing underneath was less violent than I expected and after 7 I didn't have much attention on that part - I knew it was coming and it wasn't that bad. Once in the full-stall, bringing my hands up and seeing the first few center cells open up was magic, and then more and more cells open as my hands raised, and then the back-fly starts, and the wing feels stable. I remember thinking, "Oh, this is nice." Then, inevitably, the "hands up" and "check" gets a little exciting.... and time to do it again. I learned the hard way that while in back-fly you might get a little rocking - no big deal BUT don't go "hands up" until it stops, until you're stable. Otherwise, the "hands-up" can start a big swing that you have to handle. Not a big deal, but not as sexy as it could be. I've heard "you haven't done full-stalls until you've done a hundred", I think that's probably right. I have a lot more to do ... intentionally ... over water. The autorotation exercise was hard to get into, I failed a few times to get it to autorotation, I figured out I had to get very aggressive with weight shift and the breaks, even then it took a rotation or two for it to start and easy to get out. I was actually VERY happy it was so difficult. Did the 50% asymmetric and maintained direction, the wing had no trouble with that. Still enjoying my Nyos.

    • @NelsonsWings
      @NelsonsWings 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielquick6004 Thanks for the details! After I get my Nyos RS I must learn stalls. Regarding autorotation... I've had a cascade that went into a high G auto that was very scary. Marcello was massively underweight for my wing. Flew it like a boss anyway. The one BIG difference for me, is I fly with a pound or two of pressure on the breaks at all times - don't get collapses or tip flutter that way.
