Happy New Years Eve, this video is primarily for me to get shit off my chest, things I've been holding to myself for so long that it just feels good to say out loud. As such, don't watch this expecting any sort of wisdom or actual game knowledge. I'll have an actual video of substance within a day, but until then, enjoy the end of 2024! What a vibe. I'm still in my honeymoon phase with this game and improving constantly, but god I cannot improve at Melee. I love watching your vods, and I'm a C-Len. Something different about H-Koha, idk. I don't know what to say to help because I'm awful and my character has busted air normals aside from j.A which doesn't matter because j.2C. Love your gameplay. Please keep it up.
Long message incoming. Look to reframe your mindset going into games. Instead of thinking about ways to answer F-Tohno j.Bing you in his airdash space, why are you playing into that space in the first place? This is not to say your thinking is wrong but you need to identify why you are doing things and why they work or do not work. Same with the F-Sei shit, oh no she CH j.B'd you because you made the 'right' call. I cannot count on my fingers the number of times Alps or Panda did a suboptimal (in other words, ass/bad) air maneuver and CH my 5B with air backdash j.C. Happens, as I say. You'll develop your workarounds. Chances are, that j.B could have worked if you were faster, if you timed it differently, spaced it differently, whatever. OR Maybe there's too much variance in doing air j.B to answer those options, maybe you can just let them go back into the corner and repeat your Kohaku pressure rainbow (~5B distance, dash2A/airdash/9j.C/2C). What option you choose should come down to what gets you your wincondition and only you know what your H-Koha wincon is. Mine as H-VSion was to lock people into midscreen angles where dash5A/9/6[B] was a constant threat so I could enable divekick checks/iad checks, then lock people into corner with summon pressure and seal games with left/right. You should have some idea of your endgame as Koha. Another example, you whiff j.C at midrange (tipper Koha 5B) distance vs. skeleton and use your disadvantage state to dash5A him, get punished. What were you trying to do? You aren't going to figure out all the answers but the best thing you can do is just be content with getting gapped while you experiment with options mid-game instead of using training mode to create lab-developed answers that might not function in player vs. player OR are counterintuitive to your wincondition (i.e willingly putting yourself into F.Tohno j.B vector to get a swag 5B punish, but then learning that F-Tohno has like 20 different ways to answer you doing this. How do you respond?). You need to build a support system of people that are willing to sit down with you and watch your footage. Reflecting on my time in CC, my H-VSion was still mediocre, needed work, and I speak from experience when I say it was difficult to play that easy character when everyone 'played' her, IYKYK. However, if you have a core group of people that can sit with you and watch vods with a focus on specific things (neutral focus, offense/defense focus, wincon/game pace focus), you will eventually improve. The majority of my improvement came from talking with Magikarp, sitting with j.g/ZAR to lab out the F-Ciel MU (I miss you flowfeedback), and basically playing nonstop with Noddy. Bloody and Shinobi's tournaments/ft5-7s were also a godsent. It's a slow process, enjoy the journey. Don't cope about your character/moon choice, it only makes it more frustrating. I know there are points where you fixate on H-Koha's weaknesses and compare them to her broken moon but improvement will come when you recognize what strengths you need to play into during a match versus specific characters and when you find yourself playing "their game." Like what I mentioned about F-Tohno j.B space, how are you putting yourself into spaces where you are constantly concerned about anti-airing it? Can you make an adjustment to where he needs to WORK for that j.B spacing? You can apply this philosophy to other characters too. Can I make H-WLen work for his broken ass option selecting 214 dp? Can I make a Len player feel like superjump autopilot j.C is actually a bad thing? Can I mind control my opponent to play at my spacings/deal with my tools and bait them into overcommitting for an advantage, then punishing them into big momentum (damage, screen position, etc.)? If you start to compare your character to other characters/moons you will send yourself into a loop (loo0) and will spiral midset because you're too busy thinking about superfluous things outside the set OR you will leave the set not thinking about the important things and judging sequences based off of emotion/vibes instead of objective fact. We have all been there and it's just another boulder to be pushed. If you want to REALLY push yourself, treat every game like you're putting a quarter in and get your money's worth. Treat every game like a ft1 and figure out what you need to do to win that ft1, maybe forget who you are playing vs. and look to fight their character first then worry about the player afterwards. You chose your toolbox for a reason in spite of its challenges, now you make the most of it in whatever way you deem fun.
And wrt the Alps/Skeleton issue where you fight them then fight necoarcman09 who plays H-Satsuki and mashes 2C abare the entire game, the truth is that you need those games to reframe how you approach mus or test out spaces. Maybe they are new/inexperienced compared to those players, but there is definitely something you can look to test out and take away from it. If push comes to shove, lab subs or the characters you have trouble facing. If people lose their minds bc you're on subs then lmao xD. If you know them and they want to see your main then play your main for a few games but make your expectations/goals clear if you are determined to try out those sub characters. FG players have egos (relatable) but at the end of the day its video games and you should do what is enjoyable. If that means taking a step back and playing subs to learn characters/mental reset then do it. I am sorta in-between the school of Hardbread where you can learn everything on your main character and you do not need to swap to a better/worse character to learn a fundamental, but that does not mean you shouldn't try other characters to see what they are about. Might be more fruitful than watching luckystar meme someone with C-Nero for the 50th time to play C-Nero off of some mu footage and then see how people answer common situations. Same applies to Kouma, Nanaya, Tohno, entire cast (unless you're fhime and croa lmao those characters are silly).
It's pretty clear and simple that you're just vocalizing not seeing the fruits of your efforts in the scheme of handling smaller or specific interactions better. While part of that can be attributed to the character you play, some of it are stuff within your capacity to manage as a player. As someone that's also critical about things they should clearly be doing better but aren't even when trying, I get it and you shouldn't beat yourself too much about it. You're better than results suggest based on how you navigate H-Kohas weaknesses and capitalize on her utmost strengths. You even came terribly close to beating Skeleton in an online bracket (Midweek Melting?) which highlights the heights of what you can amount to. Just keep at what you're doing now, as it's given me and others around you enough signs that you will be a better player exemplified through their proficiency/knowledge of the character and the game as a whole. 🙂👊
Didnt play against you but you won our set, ggs and happy new years big dog
3:00 pot calling the kettle black here but try not to talk down on yourself and your play bro u are cracked as fuck at this video game
youre more hard working than a lot of people omla people can undermine you all they want but your efforts will inevitably pay off and im sure jog and zay know youre a phenomenal player so who cares what anyone else thinks sometimes it helps to just have a mental reset as well whatever that may be for you happy new years maybe none of this helped but just being supportive
Play C Tohno 👍 Also consider playing on Melty LAN (since you talked about experimenting things you can't in NA) so theres more people (actually most of them are intermediate or even novice unless you ask the advanced ones to play with), people is so kind so maybe they can help you or even vod reviewing.
Tempted to make a C-Len move tierlist now. H-Kohaku is fun to watch.
C-Nanaya j.C Also known as "Why the hell does this have 6 active frames" and "THAT CROSSED ME UP???"
Is this tier list in relativity to her other moves and overall gameplan or more a tier list in relation to the rest of the cast?
Relative to her other moves. For what it's worth, I think it would work for both, but there's probably a couple of moves (22 series) that would def be lower when compared to the rest of the cast
I gotcha, I think the list and input you had on each normal was well thought out
Nice fg slop
13:34 That has to be one of the most insane C-Tohno combos I've ever seen. Alps is a god. Nice gameplay from the both of you!
Cool melty yap sesh 👍

If it doesn't have replay takeover I'm not impressed
I'm really excited to put this to use. While I didn't have too many issues with the older training mode, this feels like a huge face-lift for the quality of lab work we can do. Much thanks and appreciation to the people of melty again making this game more enjoyable.
holy shit training mode in melty i gotta get this shit
woah what the fug
heads up that the user's ex guards will not work correctly with this mod; if ex guard is 'off' in page 2 of the ext. settings you can't ex guard at all, if it's set to 'random' you'll guard at random, if set to 'on' you'll always ex guard.
Yo, this looks pretty sick! I might give it a shot. Also did an unoptimal H-Kohaku combo yesterday that I'll probably post later. I'm kinda known in redcord for constantly posting combos.
Are the loops particularly harder on akiha ?

Based take. I defended him a few years ago when I thought it was just over drawings. I even praised him for making Top 8 at EVO despite the death threats. But transphobia shouldn't be tolerated. Besides, loving anime fighting games but hating on queer and trans people makes as much sense, to me, as loving hockey but hating Canadians.
