I honestly never minded that my Palico hugged the Handler as I based mine on my actual cat and he loved EVERYONE 😆. He'd always happily trot up to new people visiting the house as he knew he'd inevitable get attention and strokes from them. So he'd 100% do this, except if that person brought a dog - then he'd run away.

In the defense of the cat, your character didn't really make an effort to get a hug. Also, even if I'd known a guy my whole life, if he didn't talk or communicate at all, I probably wouldn't like him all that much.
