I learnt my driving on a blue Standard 1968 model. It was so much fun to drive this car !! The images of the inside and engine remind me of my childhood. It was a sports car back then. It's rear shockers were designed such that the tires were a bent inwards and they used to straighten up as the speed increased. The turning radius was amazingly small and the bonnet used to open on the other side !! Wish I could drive it once again !!

My father brought this herald car in the year 1978, blue colour, we travelled upto to 40 kilometres in this car. I remember that, i filled water in the radiator every day and washed car regularly. My father also had a Rajdooth motorcycle also.but today these both vehicles are not available in India

I have a 1981 w123 240D and I love maintaining it. When you take it out on roads, your understand the importance of maintaining such beauties.

Yes, I did take a ride on this car in 70s in my high school days.It was owned by an IAS officer, (Dy. Collector of our District)used to stay opp. our house.Their children our friends, used to play with us&so some times their driver used to take us for a joyc ride. In those days we used to see this Standard Herald Car only in movies&then there used to be another car-that's "Standard10" which looked a bit sturdy&stronger tham this Herald.Really golden days! ❤️

in My School days too, whenever I used to go to Madras, my Paternal Uncle to come to the Central Station to pick us (or stuff us)and also the luggage in this small car...e came..Then a New Variant Standard Gazell came. Sweet Memories.

Good to see that you have maintained the original look. Our neighbour when I was a young boy, Pradhan uncle, had a Jawa exactly like this. And yes, these are definitely simple and easy to maintain bikes with a lot of individual character.

If Yamaha relaunch this iconic RD350 in new modern avtaar. It will give run for the money to all its competitors (RE, Jawa, Benelli and upcoming Honda H'ness)

Sir, with due respect the dashboard seems to be from a 1964-65 model. The fuel meter should be with a white background. It was probably replaced sometime with a one from from a Mark II, 1966 to 67. The luggage carrier on the boot and the rear view mirrors on the bonnet are not original fittings.

My dad had bought a Standard Herald new in 1965. I grew up with the car. I learned to drive in it, learned to change the wheel, clean the carbeurettor and the plugs. I even went on my first date in the car. My sister went to her in laws house after marriage in that car. My niece came home from the hospital in it after she was born. Dad passed away in 2009. I had to to sell the car as I hit a rough patch financially. When things improved I looked for the it and found it with a dealer in Mumbai. I bought it for about 10 times the money what I had sold it for, though it had been restored to an extent. I still have the car. It needs another shot of repairs now and things are difficult in the Covid era. But I will manage.
