The historic "Passing on the Gift" ceremony was held in Kamalamai Municipality, Sindhuli on September 21, 2024, to celebrate Heifer International's 80 years of community empowerment. It was a day filled with hope, partnership, and progress, carrying great promise for Nepal's farmers, especially women farmers and the entire dairy sector. During the event, 11 families were gifted first-born Holstein calves, passed on by families who had previously benefited from the generous support of the Korean government.
This act of giving symbolizes not just an exchange of livestock but a step toward self-sufficiency, community growth, and lasting development. The ceremony fosters a spirit of community, solidarity, and shared purpose, as farmers fulfill their responsibility to help others improve their livelihoods. It is a key element of Heifer’s Values-Based Holistic Community Development model, which promotes sustainable locally-led development.
