@@DecadentCupcake123 Honestly SHAFT didnt do a bad job in terms of aesthetics. Their animation style just doesnt suit a series of 12 episodes with shit-tons of story to cover. In 12 episodes, the visuals need to get straight to the point almost instantly, which isnt SHAFT's strong suit judging by Madoka Magica.

Well his original goal is to make Marry a full Medusa so he can get her to bring back Ayaka, Kenjirou's wife, from the Kagerou Daze. He does this because that's what Kenjirou's wish is, and to exist Kuroha has to work towards fulfilling that wish. When Ayano kills herself to stop all the snakes from reuniting, his plan changes to instead reset the world. He does this so that he can keep existing, but he is able to do this because if Ayano is going to stay with the final snake in the Kagerou Daze then he can't complete the Medusa. So this means that the only way he can grant Kenjirou's wish is to reset the world so that Ayano isn't dead anymore. However, this makes a perfect loop that allows Kuroha to exist forever because he can keep working towards granting the wish, but also he will never complete it.

@@Darkclowd Should I tell you the reason why the clearing snake now requires different wishes? Oh, my other comment is also here in this video. I found out about his reason for destroying the heat haze just recently. His goal to revive Ayaka is a means he used to continue existing towards his goal. His one true goal is to destroy the heat haze as a form of "making sure he's not the only one who would disappear" in the manga, it was revealed that each snake isn't born naturally. They were the result of Azami's desire. Each snake represents a desire. The clearing snake's birth was from Azami's desire to understand what she is. Yes, she is a medusa but even she doesn't know how and why she exists. Although, this desire was deemed by Azami as pointless after she met Tsukihiko, fell in love with him, and gave birth to Shion. She realized that "there's no point in asking what she is when she can just live with the happiness he obtained from her family's love". This way she basically said that "I no longer need the existence of the clearing snake. It wouldn't matter if it disappeared now". This caused the clearing snake to begin to hate her "happiness" he was born for a purpose but that purpose was taken away from him by his "mother". As a result, if he wants to exist, he needs someone who would ask him a wish. Unlike the other snakes, he no longer possesses a "purpose" thus, he would disappear soon. But if he managed to destroy the Heat Haze, Humans will realize the existence of the "medusa" (Azami) again, and then they would hate her and try to kill her. Ultimately destroying her "happiness" that's being kept by the heat haze in a fragile way. With this, even if he disappeared the other snake would soon follow him. Or maybe, he's planning to make Azami desire to "understand her existence" once again by putting her in such situations. The situation the snake of the clearing eyes is in isn't really something that you can hate. Yes, he's doing cruel things for the sake of his goal. But he can't do anything else. His very existence was like a "insignificant moment" for Azami but for him it was probably like "his own mother abandoned him to death just to enjoy a life with a different family".

@@allentayoto7387 hmm so he's trying to take down the other snakes out of spite? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to just want to continue to loop so he can keep existing? If he destroys the haze to erase the other snakes so it's not just him that implies that he knows he will fade out of existence eventually. I guess he doesn't care about continuing on anymore and just wants to take down everyone else with him?

@@Darkclowd I'm not sure if it's what he wants, It's just a guess o my part. But it is clear in the manga that he doesn't have any desire to live in the loop. The loop Mary cause is just a hindrance for him. A wall that would slowly crumble the more time repeats itself. His real goal is to destroy the heat haze. And the wishes he takes on for every loop is his way to not disappear before he achieve his goal. If he ended up disappearing in a loop, that timeline would no longer have a reason to reset since he's not there to kill everyone, which would trigger Mary's desire to reset everything. It was actually not explored in anime and MV's. The reason he would do all of this was only revealed in the manga (I'm not sure if it was revealed in the LN sicne I haven't read it yet). In the manga, Mary even took on the challenge to fight him. As we know, The clearing snake is capable of nullifying the effects of other snake, and for some reason he is even strong enough to not be controlled by the Combining snake (the queen snake) which is the reason why Mary did everything to stop him but he still ended up finding them. There was a scene where Mary used Ene's snake to send her soul to their hideout while the others are escaping with her real body. Then while there, she combined the abilities of Kido's snake and Momo's snake to force The clearing snake's mind to not be able to think about anything else but Mary's existence. But in the end, he broke through it.

It ain't an adaption tho. It's the final route to the multi-media series. The whole thing goes from music > light novels > manga > anime, all which play out in their own different ways. As for the confusing part, SHAFT is generally like this with storytelling and the "odd" style they handle anime, though the visuals were definitely lesser than some of their other works like Monogatari, Kubikiri Cycle, Madoka Magica, and etc.

At least this has a happy ending! Not like in the manga 🙊

Don't worry, you're not dumb, the anime in itself is confusing as it's just a 'route' in the story, technically you're supposed to listen to the vocaloid songs first, read the manga, then the novel series (i can't remember if it's the manga and then the novels or vise versa), and then end it with the anime to get the full meat and bones of the story basically, the greatest understanding of the story is knowing that it's a looped timeline for the two summer days of august 14 and 15th

@@blackrabbitofwonderland658 ending comes out of no where if you don't know about Retaining Eyes, Ayano, and Marry's power. So yes in order to actually have any hope of understanding this anime's end you need to know the story of the whole series. Watching the ending after you know all the stuff that happened before is incredibly rewarding though. Feels like a culmination of an epic saga.

They were all dying when their snakes were taken out. But after this whole ordeal Marry gives their snakes back keep them from dying again. I guess having their power ripped out doesn't instantly kill them.

You're supposed to listen to the songs and read the manga and LN first. The anime is the next part of the story in that order. Anime is shit by itself. As a part of the series though it's pretty good aside from the animation. Especially in Ayano no Koufukuriron. I still have nightmares about that today...

What the above comment said, since depending on how Shintaro views Ayano's death it changes the outcome of an entire timeline ( yes Kagerou Project has multiple timelines ), he is the most important character in the grand scheme of things But, each character is main character in their own manga chapter/episode/song So tl;dr, Shintaro is the MC but not really depending on which part were on
