Flying with Tam
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ก.ย. 2013
I’m a private pilot flying an Ikarus C42 microlight out of Exeter international airport in the south west of England. I fly for fun on my own and with friends and family, and make videos to both share with them, and to analyse what went well and what could to be improved.
I welcome comments, and invite you to subscribe to my channel.
There are also some flex wing flying and skiing videos.

Not a brilliant day, but good enough to go for a quick jaunt down the coast to fly over my house. #flying #c42

After the Devon Strut Eaglescott fly-out, I gave my mate Poz a lift to Dunkeswell on my way back to Exeter
2023 had some lovely winter flying days. This was one of the very best.

A beautiful cold clear winters day in Devon, ideal for a relaxing smooth flight around the county taking in the wonderful scenery.
Let’s fly to Eaglescott

Devon Strut 2024 fly out to Eaglescott airfield in mid Devon. The visibility wasn’t very good, but perfectly flyable. It was nice to be able to fly into a grass strip after all the rain that there has been.

After the Eaglescott fly-in, and taking my mate Poz back to Dunkeswell, I took the short hop back to my home airfield of Exeter. It is only a short flight, but i decided to use Sky Demon overlays on this video. #aviation #c42

On a fine day, after a wet period, it was time for the first Devon Strut fly-out of 2024. This one is to Eaglescott airfield in mid Devon. We visited the country fair just down the road from the airfield (you can see it from my overhead approach on the video) #flying #c42 #aviation
Eaglescott to Dunkeswell with Poz Ikarus C42

Following a visit to the country fair just down the lane and enjoying a superb roast beef roll, it was time to give my mate Poz a lift back to his home airfield of Dunkeswell. Having had a turbulent flight to get to Eaglescott, it was nice to climb to 4000 feet above the inversion and into some lovely smooth air

Love to watch your videos. I'm based in Exeter and considering to do NPPL(M).... the more I watch your videos the more I wanna do it....
You should……..you would love it. ✌️
The flight over Exmouth made me smile :)
Could you please send me a photo of the camera mounting at the wing;
It’s a GoPro surfboard mount, tested by BMAA inspector. BMAA minor modification 2231, I think the BMAA charged £20 from memory. I cant find a way to attach a photo of it, but i use a GoPro max 360 camera with it. Hope that helps
Nice video and looked a blustery day and interesting landings at the strip. Great watch (y)
If you should be unfortunate to have the engine quit, how do yo get the aircraft out of a field?
I would (hopefully) land in a big enough field. Failing that, the wings are removable and the plane can be moved on a trailer. I hope i never have to find out 😀
@@tamalford Yes, but who brings the trailer, where does it come from, can you call the equivelent of the AA? PS, I hope it never happens. I enjoy your vids. Keep em' coming. :)
I'm watching this with students at my school during lunch. We are enjoying your trip very much. Thank you.
You’re very welcome.
Another good one Tam.
Thank you! Cheers!
Love it ❤
Are you based at Exeter? If so, what are the costs of operating out of there?
I am based at Exeter, costs are slightly higher than comparable airfields, but secure and convenient. Hangarage is limited and hard to get.
Great video, Eaglescott is where I flew to for my first cross country! How about a video to Lands End ?
I may get down that far later in the year. Ive only been as far as Perranporth th-cam.com/video/lbf_i_bvPT4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JZv-YOBU8ghNwm9P
Great video , flown into Dunkerswell myself years ago and back to Bodmin ,brought back good memories, great RT recording as well , many thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it. See more at youtube.com/@tamalford?si=hrk9_7ysLIxcJUyr.
The pilot seemed very busy using his IPad for such a short flight!
It was only for the video. 😀
Great video Tam, good weather
Olá, estou com esse problema,, você tem como colocar em português?
Sorry, no. But if you press more, then transcript, you can use google translate to follow what is said (i think). Good luck
@@tamalford muito obrigado, eu consegui colocar a legenda em português. Verei depois se o meu problema será solucionado. Valeu meu amigo!
"promosm"
I can’t wait to get into the left hand seat again. It’s been a long wet winter! Excellent inspiring video.
lol so just guess and check. nice. delete this video, please you're interrupting search results to the real solution
No guess work. Use google earth to find the exact start point of the GPX recording
there was no error... how you fix it then?
The synchronisation map no longer works in Virb Edit
Arrrr! Thats how you do it Tam.
Love Bodmin, I use to fly/rent the flying club's MS880b in the early 80's
I'm disappointed you didn't mention the home field (until very recently) of your ex instructor and my current instructor Captain Greenshields! 😉 your videos are an inspiration for me. what I don't understand is where you're finding all these perfect flying days! 😆
Aaahaaa! My secret is being retired and able to fly whenever the weather is good. Also, being the sole owner and not having to book the aircraft helps. 😀
😮 The fields! Completely random property lines, something I have never seen! I'm used to angular lines, like squares, rectangles, circles, triangles even. Not just random lines everywhere! Kinda cool looking, though. 😁
Do I assume that you are in the USA?
@@tamalford You are correct. 😁
Always found some turbulence off the up wind end of 26 in Westerlies due to the terrain just across the Shaftesbury road. I don't think there are many GA airfields these days that aren't PPR, correct me if I'm wrong. The last time I was there Sandown was a very friendly place.
Another very informative video Tam.
You’re right, very few don’t require PPR. And yes, Sandown is very friendly although I have heard that some people aren’t keen on Sid (the owner). I think he’s a breath of fresh air, we need more field owners like him.
You flew over our house @ 13:04, there is a dismantled Auster in our back garden!
All very stunning with the winter weather. I am enjoying this newly found channel, the Ikarus is very impressive, thank you.
Welcome!
Are you in training?
No, (some landings may look like it 😂)
Good vehicle for runway inspections.
Hi Tam, when you turned at Wellington Monument my airstrip was off to north.you would be welcome anytime
Thanks, I would love to visit. Where is it? Is it on SkyDemon?
Not on SkyDemon, 3 miles north of Wiveliscombe/3 miles east of Clatworthy reservoir
Aways enjoy your flights Tam, relaxing and wonderful scenery, best wishes.
That runway is just lush! Nice vid there
Happy New year and Lucky you. 6th was a lovely day. Compton was shut and Bournemouth was fully booked so i was grounded or I might have tried to get a flight. I ended up flying my Toys instead. What software are you using to give elevation, distance and speed?
Happy new year. I take the GPX file from SkyDemon, and after I’ve produced the whole video, I run it through Garmin Virb Edit to put on the GPX, then re-edit the result. Bit of a faff, but it works OK. Hope that makes sense.

lucky for some - enjoy
Amazing
Nice flight Tam👏👏
Very relaxing Tam, enjoyed every moment, thank you.
Flat calm and crystal clear!…😊
Thanks for another good one Tam. I liked your position reporting, and the Skydemon insets.
Great camera angles Tam, catching the glorious flying conditions. Thanks for the footage and Rt of the plane in front!!
Glad you enjoyed it
What cameras are you using?
GoPro 9s and GoPro max on wingtip
@@tamalford many thanks.
Another good one Tam, thanks.
I would be inclined to give thumbs up if you could occasionally name the villages being overflown. -- No effort -- no TH-cam dollars !!
Good idea, I’ll do some of that in future vids. Thanks
Try this one. th-cam.com/video/nObwxQcFDhA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=v0O0ydiK-_eIOvuc
That skydemon overlay works well Tam. We managed an hour, brakes all good.
Enjoyed the content with ATC and the Skydemon inlay. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks.
What a lovely day to fly. I was guessing Saturday then noticed date and time on your overlay. I desperately wanted to get airborne but fully booked at Bournemouth and Compton was closed as the runway was flooded. I ended up flying my RC model planes at the club watching all you lucky guys fly over :-(
Well good front view on outside video cam
Good morning. Enjoyed your Video. I self fly hire from Bournemouth and Compton so used to the Airspace you flew through a lot. I have never used London so very interested to hear what was going on so sat with you for the trip :-) Any reason when you left Exeter (I use them in your area) you did not use Bournemouth Radar as that covers all the way to Sandown. Bournemouth Radar is nice and relaxed compared to London.
Hi flyingmortgageman. I decided to stick with London information because of the air day going on at Bournemouth (I figured Bournemouth would be busy enough). I wanted to go along the coastal route because my misses had walked much of the Coast path, also we wanted to see the needles. Needless to say, our return journey was via Stoney Cross and much more relaxed.
@@tamalford Its a lovely route. I fly down from Comptom abbas to Swanage then allong the coast as long as the range is closed all the way to exeter as oftern as i can. Cant think of a better route and we are so lucky to live in Dorset. From Bournemouth I normally head out to the IOW and do a lap or something. I have done both Sandown and Bembridge and did chuckle wjhen I heard the owner on your radion message as he clearly has still lost his voice. Its been a few months now with him struggling. Have you tried Compton now its reopened?
I flew into Compton last year, but haven’t been back since Guy Richie has bought it. It’s in my list though, It’s a nice distance from Exeter for lunch.
Great video and lots of radio work, well done ! Wot camera were u using on wing? Great clarity
Thanks. GoPro max 360 on the wing tip. Takes some work in post, but fair results
Very useful video thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
