How to Clean Scalextric Track | The BEST WAY
There are many methods for cleaning dirty and grubby scalextric track. Even for rusted track. This to me is the best combination that makes it quick and hassle free.

Incredibly Detailed Scalextric GT40 Red no.83 | Unboxing & Review

My review of the Ford GT40 in Red no. 83. Were the older Scalextric cars more detailed than the newer ones? Thanks for this video. Going to give this a go tomorrow. I took my set off the top of the wardrobe yesterday and was shocked at how filthy the track was.
Jeez, it took you 10 minutes on 1 small section!
Very good I will try it
I wonder if i could use on my outdoor railway ?
Excellent! Thanks for this Jack. Bought a second hand set for my youngster and this will help greatly. Found that one or two LEDs had gone in the car lights too. Easy to change but so small!
Toothpaste is an economical polishing compound, it even makes you smile after you use it. What a bright idea!
Yes,good video, plenty of easy to understand information. But as some comments mentioned the price of Scalextric these days is very expensive for what you get,the NSR car is a little more but look at what you get, apples v oranges, toy v OOTB genuine performance club racer.I do upgrades for customers who are expecting so much more from their Scalex' purchases and i have to tell them that for how much they spend on upgrade parts, may as well buy the superior car.How hard can it be for Scalextric to produce a flat, flexible chassis, with a guide 5mm deeper?
Great video, thanls for the tips and help
I checked my local dealer and I did not see that car available anymore.
Probably the most frustrating type of toy to buy for a child.
I’ve used Solvol autosol since I was a teenager in the 70’s polishing my bike then polishing the Ali crankcase on my FS1E moped.
Cool! Looks awesome 👌. Check out Loco Leighton channel he has this I think, in HO.
I guess I'm hardcore :-) I used a sanding block, or a blade, or the front edge of a file. These are very old tracks which have probably never been cleaned before. The trick is to make sure that the connection points join properly. Clean them, bend them ever so slightly to make sure they have a good connection.
What about the 3 Ford GT40 car set which won the Le Man's 24hr race in 1966 and British driver Ken Miles was clearly winner of the race, but the French owners of the race told him that he didn't win. I will definitely love to buy the scalextric car set if it is still available.
They're available on E bay, but will cost you around £200
Five years ago, I purchased a train set for my grandson since then it is no longer for my grandson. I have a massive lay out in my spare bedroom spend at least so far £4500. Love the hobby.
I have some autosol krome Glans can i use that or only metal polish?
Will you be doing a full review
Absolutely!
Brilliant… thank you! I would race this frequently.
Are there any silicone tyres to fit this thing?
Youll find that silicone tyres stretch and it can be hard to find exact measurements that fir. Get some calipers and measure, then search for the size. But I would advise going slightly smaller than required otherwise they flop all over the place.
Thanks for the great tips Jack, I'm going to try it as soon as I can get some solvol. But are scalextric tracks plated steel ?, would a peco track rubber damage the surface?, I'm sure the solvol won't, however the only track panels that are really bad here are some I bought on EBay and it looks as if some sort of plating is worn off. I tried the peco rubber but the groove ripped pieces off until we changed the technique. (I do know that some model rail track such as Hornby is plated and abrasives are not good for it, so its going to get some of your treatment too.).
Hey, thanks for watching! The peco rubber will work... but it will hurt your hands and get dirty VERY quickly. I bought some awful track of ebay, even had rust spots and the Autosol worked perfectly. Was easy on the hands and cleaned them up with ease so I truly believe this is the best solution. Good luck!
It’s a toy car not a she
Hi can hi use wd 40 thanks trevor
I bought this 2 months ago in Australia. The gusset panels are glued to the base only (which I agree is unconventional). They are completely independent of the body and not glued to it. Trust this helps.
white vinegar first on really blackened rails so much easier then do this. I have tried just this and got nowhere fast. lay kitchen roll or other cloth over track spray bottle of white vinegar soak down rails leave a few HRS and finish with your method. but my track was discussing
nice video helpful
Hi, why number 83? It was a brazilian car. Owned by Emerson fitipaldi and others brazilian racers.
The car is built on Chassis number GT40 P/1083 and was the last original GT-40 to be constructed and sold as a completed race car, Hence the number 83
I had 50 meters of track to clean so I used a small 80 grit flapper wheel in a cheap dremel clone off eBay perfect results with no arm ache
this removes the protective plating.
Will this method work on classic track too?
Absolutely!
Hi Jack why only 4 episodes you was doing a great job I might have a great idea for you
Bought some, tried it. It’s amazing stuff, cheers fella!
Oh amazing to hear that you gave it a go! :)
Great video Jack, I’m going to give Autosol a try!!
Hello but, for, one, thing, one, piece of track yeah, easy, why, don't you do your layout, it,wont be easily done, epscaly,if, you have over, and, unders,,on,the,,layout
Eh up mate, just bought and tried the AUTOSOL method for cleaning my very old scalextric track, Excellent results, thanks mate.
Awesome, thank you. Guess what I am doing this week-end?
Good tip, I thought I had auto sol metal polish, turns out it's auto glym. Still gonna give it a go though.
Just looked at the metal polish and it says it leaves an invisible coat of wax? Is that not good for the conductivity of the track to car?
Great video. Keep up the good work 👍🏾
Sounds simple to do BUT not when there’s so much scenery to be removed !!!!
water ammonia combination baths .. place track in for 30 min ..ammonia is good for nickel cleaning ..( test one or 2 pieces of track first ) including mix ratio and time in bath ... if you hundreds of pieces of track coming out of storage like me rubbing with the finger or thumb with that amount of track is not the best
Is it a good idea to clean the black part of the track too? If so what do you recommend?
Interesting
Thanks for watching! I'll be back soon!
Fanny juice is good for cleaning
Another Top Tip!
I find it easier to just unclip and remove the rail, no damage or marks to the track that way.....takes a couple of minutes maximum.
Great idea. Ill give it a go!
This Autosol product is very good. I haven't used it on scalextric track as I haven't had one set up for years, but it works a treat on push bike rims and also on magnesium car rims.
It's brilliant stuff! Thanks for watching! I'll be back soon!
To be truthful a 1/32 slot car should only do around 7-7.5 mph. That would be realistic for their scale at around 240mph if they were full sized. Last time I ran in a competition to win a set the cars seemed way too fast to me, and that was a good few years ago when Westfield Stratford first opened. When I was proper into it I would have loved the digital version; the ability to have a computer run 3 cars while I ran the other would really have appealed to someone with nobody to run with.
Digital has it's advantages. I mostly run alone and still prefer No mags analogue
@@jacks_hobbies Just got right back into it with the Arc Air; analogue and 1 pace car; the thing I've discovered today is that a figure 8 with a bridge doesn't suit pace cars very well. As the racing wore on the older cars in particular began to struggle up the hill. Going to swap out tomorrow for a flat sort of oval.
Great review mate 👍
There's a red version sold in a 2 car set. The designer is right, not you. Remove the magnet and the scaled down driving experience is lost. The free flowing style racing game is carrera brand product.
I have the red version too since this vid. Absolutely love them all. Thanks for watching! I'll be back soon!
I've got the NSR Ford Mk IV in the same colour absolutely stunning. I've looked at the Scalextric on and it's hard to find, but I've seen the Blue one on Amazon....Just don't think it's worth the £66 asking price.
Once you realize it drives in the same style as the full sized version, you might think differently.
I just bought the metallic blue version for $45 USD at my local slot track
They do crop up. Just gotta keep your eye out. Thanks for watching! I'll be back soon!
Have you ever used copper grease on the ends of the track where the pins are? Some of my track is dirty in the ends and is hard to clean the pins so I’ve thought about putting a dab of copper slip on the pins to get good conductivity between two sections of track
Actualluy this may not be a good idea since copper on iron/nickel causes electrochemical corrosion. Maybe not in a short while but it might become an issue longterm.
There is another brand called ‘peak’ Same stuff. But autosol is my go to anyway. But peak works too
