Rearranging our garden gate/fence to better align with the garage wall & amp; house
1. Create a plan drawing plus an action programme and order any reqd materials - in our case some additional paving slabs, 100mm sq. pre-treated timber posts, sharp sand, gravel & amp; cement!
2. An adjacent bed of climbing roses & amp; honeysuckle was carefully removed & put to one side.
3. Next, remove the gate & ironmongery, fence panels plus the timber wall jambs, posts & amp; associated post foundations (an arduous task!).
4. Remove shingle & amp; any builder’s rubble from area of driveway to be used plus any paving slabs that will require re-laying.
5. I needed to remove an interfering water butt, requiring changing the garage lean-to guttering!
6. Securely re-fix the existing timber wall jambs in their new vertical positions.
7. Using the existing gate as a guide, carefully bed the 2 new posts in concrete & prop to ensure
they remain properly upright whilst the concrete is setting.
8. Securely re-fix the two fence panels in their new location.
9. Re-fit the existing gate using the provided hinges & associated ironmongery. I added a transom
rail over the gate, fixed to the two gate posts for additional stability.
10. Apply at least 2 coats of a good quality timber fence stain.
11. Re-lay the existing & any new patio slabs to suit the new layout.
12. Create a good soil bedding & re-plant the climbing roses & honeysuckle in their new location.
Water well.
13. Tidy up all round, stand back & admire a good job well done!!

Transforming our South facing garage wall.
1. We had previously built a ‘lean-to’ roof supported by re-purposed metal posts; as well as laying some paving slabs.
2. We laid additional paving slabs to create a more usable ‘dry’ space & constructed a decorative run of wooden containers for our palms.
3. We then thoroughly cleaned the underside of the roof, removing all the cobwebs & other accumulated bits & pieces!
4. We repainted the garage door in Terracotta as well as the rather tired looking garden bench.
5. The clock was the positioned centrally and surrounded by a decorative frame.
6. Finally, we fixed metal ‘bees’ to the wall & placed all furniture in position.
JOB DONE - sit back & enjoy a nice cup of tea!
