Picking Jig Head Sizes for Bass Fishing
The Tackle Bag Videos are the nuts and bolts of bass fishing techniques and equipment.
Today's video is all about picking jig head sizes for catching bass. There are different jig head styles and they all come in multiple different weights. It can be difficult to wade through the large selection and pick the best one for the conditions you are fishing. My hope is this video will make the decision easier and quicker and allow you to get out and successfully fish your favorite jig heads and catch some bass.

    Hello sir, I am a beginner. Can I ask you a question? Can you tell me how to choose the jighead weight?

    • @CastingwithKirk
      @CastingwithKirk 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are quite a few variables to selecting a jig head weight. The most important is fall rate. Under most circumstances in the colder water you want a lighter weight to slow the fall of the lure. In warmer waters you want a faster fall rate so go heavier. Sometimes in windy conditions you need a heavier weight to get through the wind and keep a straight line contact with the lure on the bottom. I find for my personal use, I use 1/4 to 3/8 ounce jig heads for most applications. If it’s finesse worm fishing I go with 1/8 ounce. I hope this helps.

    For spinning reels, I liked that you were only recommending it for up to 10lbs. (I won't be using it in place of the 15lb braid + fluoro leaders on my spinning reels.)

    • @CastingwithKirk

      I myself haven’t really messed around much with the braid to Fluorocarbon leader setup. I find that using 6-10lb copolymer or mono is an inexpensive setup and covers most applications, at least for me.
