Applying to US PhD Program in Economics
In this video I talk through what a US econ PhD looks like, what to expect from the admissions process, and some tips about building a strong application. The webinar was recorded on 10 Nov 2022, and is my first since taking over as PhD Director for the economics department at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Nice video, give me more understanding about GDP. Is it for undergrad or grad?
wow that was useful
Nice video, thanks.
Are the Maths camp classes compulsory for international students? or do the universities look at the transcripts to decide?
Hi, Math camp is important for ALL the students joining for that year. US universities often emphasize on international students attending the math camp.
thx
Thank you very much! Very useful and helpful video.
Excellent video. Very helpful. Thanks. As a graduate of a BA Econ. and MBA Finance some couple decades ago. I wanted to apply for a Ph.D. Econ. in US and have found it to be very difficult as I have not recently done research, written papers or worked as a RS or a TA. I could also do with some more Math for Econ. and Econometrics. Do you recommend any courses online to complete? Such as enrolling in a Math Camp?

Hey! do note that a math camp, or certificate courses on math and econometrics will not help your chances getting into a PHD program. If these are only for refresher, I would recommend. However, my recommendation would actually do a 1 year diploma(based on universities in your country) you can do a diploma in Economics or a diploma in mathematics. This will 1) as it is a recognised degree it will add pointers to your PhD application 2) Give you opportunity to RA with a professor. 3) Your PhD letter of recs will be better as the letters would be more recent and coming from an academic office.

How do you execute parts of a do file without copying it into the command area?
On a PC you highlight in the do file editor and type Ctrl+D. You can also highlight and push the "Execute" button on the toolbar in the do file editor.
