Pretty thorough vid. Years ago a friend when he was quite novice glued up before drilling pin holes. I made the fix zero stress and fun by stopping by his shop rolling in with my very potable medical x-ray unit.

Hi Steven. I had spikes on my mind and just found your channel. Loved your first intro TH-cam vid and look forward to the rest. Good story telling and very approachable. I couldn’t help but notice the anvil and stand. Atlas Knife and Tool just began selling cast 1080 high carbon railroad spikes. Charles had a what if moment a few months ago and his foundry relationship made the thought actionable. I don’t think initial run big enough to last long. I gotta get over to his shop soon to ogle the crates. Charles has been a very close friend for decades.

Thanks for following along. I just checked out Charles’ page on Instagram and I see the 1080 railroad spikes. I might need to pick some up from him. I learned on those and now I’m using them to teach my son. They forge very well. stay in touch and thanks for watching! Cheers-Stephen

Nice little history lesson, enjoyed. I sailed under the BR bridge and docked at the Exxon refinery Dock, many many times. Made many trips Baton Rouge to the gulf on Tankers. Back in the good old days. Thank for sharing. 👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😀

Randy, thanks for following along and watching. Your sailing river journey sounds like quite the adventure, very cool! This historical marker where Searles’ shop was located is a block away from the river not far at all from that bridge.

Awesome information. I remember as a little kid I was obsessed with the Bowie knife and would check out books from school library trying to read all about Jim Bowie. Read books on the Alamo and was always inspired by the early frontiersman and their guns and knives. Great video. And to think it’s been 200 years now.
