Network Address Protocol(NAT) II Public IP II Private IP
Network Address Translation (NAT) is a technique that allows multiple devices on a private network to access the internet using a single public IP address. It works by translating private IP addresses, which are used within local networks (e.g., 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x), into public IP addresses assigned by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Private IPs are not routable on the internet, while public IPs are globally unique and used for internet communication. When a device in a private network sends data to the internet, NAT replaces the device's private IP with the router's public IP. The router also assigns a unique port number to each connection, enabling it to track responses from the internet and forward them to the correct device within the private network. NAT operates in various modes, including Static NAT (one-to-one mapping between private and public IPs), Dynamic NAT (many-to-one mapping with a pool of public IPs), and Port Address Translation (PAT), where multiple devices share a single public IP by differentiating connections using port numbers. This process ensures efficient use of IP addresses while maintaining network security and privacy.
