I know no one will see this cause I'm commenting in 2024, but my dumbass really thought this was a song commentating in a positive woke way and not complaining about it. So all this time when I would listen to it I would listen to it as if it was pro-queer 💀💀

Even at the time, I think the lyrics could definitely be read as mocking the kind of person who would complain about queerness. Another comment in here claims that the song was actually banned from the radio, which I can easily believe. The line “boys were boys and girls were girls when I was a tot” is certainly cutting satire now that the song’s very existence proves the people who say that wrong!
