BMT 101: The basics of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation
Webinar lead by Dr Ivan Pasic on January 24, 2024 Dr. Ivan Pasic, FRCPC
About the speaker:
Dr. Pasic is a staff physician and clinician investigator in the Hans Messner Allogeneic Transplant Program at Princess Margaret Hospital. He obtained his MD and PhD degrees in 2012 and subsequently completed residencies in internal medicine and medical oncology in 2016 and 2017 at the University of Toronto. He went on to complete a fellowship in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation in the Hans Messner Allogeneic Transplant Program in 2019. During his fellowship, he served as the chief transplant and malignant hematology fellow physician during the 2018-2019 academic year. Throughout his career he always had a keen interest in research. The work on his doctoral thesis on biomarker discovery in paediatric cancers was published in Cancer Research. His current basic science research interest is in the characterization of factors influencing transplant-related complications such as graft-vs-host disease and relapse. He recently published a study describing the discovery of novel biomarkers of acute graft-vs-host disease in allogeneic hematopoietic transplant recipients. On the clinical side, Dr. Pasic focuses on the characterization of factors impacting transplant-related complications, with a particular emphasis on the use of novel conditioning regimens designed to reduce transplantation-related mortality. He is an author on over 50 peer-reviewed studies. He is a sitting member on the institutional Oncology Research Ethics Board. During COVID-19 pandemic, he was a member of the Princess Margaret Hospital COVID-19 Vaccine Guidance Committee, which released institutional evidence-based guidance to vaccination of oncology patients against SARS-CoV-2.

Inhave developed MDS soon after a blood transfusion of 4 units during an operation, this blood was from multiple Covid vaxxed donors with full series and boosted history as they were the only acceptable ones. I was wondering if the IgG4 RD has an effect on the bone marrow stem cells after getting the factors from the transfused blood.

Thank you this was very helpful in 5 2024 when my family member was just diagnosed with high risk mds they want to use decitabine with the venetoclax in a port. Scary.

Insurance doesn’t cover decitabine on part d Medicare. If they do it’s thousands of dollars each treatment. USA sucks on medication under Medicare

I am a 51 year young bone marrow transplant , Aplastic Anemia patient. My own Momma was My Donner. But it wasn't a100 percent a match. I was about 12 when I was diagnosed with AA. Alll 3 of My cells would bottom out almost everyday! More & more O-Neg & Platelet transfusions though all of these years! 8:32 My Momma gave Me birth twice ! I Love You Momma. Thank You for everything. I sure do miss Her. I was diagnosed in 1985-1986. I had the FIRST bone marrow transplant from Mother to child! EVER !! Now, I' live by matninse treatments, and more blood. My BM is so dry, that My Dr couldn't even get a biopsy after He biopsied Me 3 freaking times in 2 and a half hours ! They tried to dope me up, when My Dr wouldn't have put Me out. I even bit a intern Dr one time. I am getting ready to write about My life STILL with Aplastic Anemia. I've fought My entire life, and I STILL AM. I don't have a hematologist ever since I changed My insurance. Anyway, if You have or still have AA, I would like to chat with a AA Doctor, before My hemoglobin and platelets go down any further. Thanks for reading My babble. LOL ! I live here in Florida, and I am ALWAYS COLD ! Have a Awesome Christmas everybody ! Stay warm, and God bless.
