Todd's Tapes
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 มิ.ย. 2009
Way back yonder in the 90s I packed up a Dodge Caravan and headed west. Broke, naive and yearning to put my film school education to any use whatsoever I started recording San Francisco's bands with a meager 8mm video camera. My mission, to record performances. I placed myself near a speaker, video camera mounted on a tripod and hoped the sound and video were captured in such a way that as much of the musician's performance and their music were preserved as faithfully as possible. Sometimes my mission was successful, other times it was a mess. The end result was about 200 shows on over 130 tapes and I'm working to get them all uploaded to this here TH-cam. Welcome to Todd's Tapes. Have fun.

I know right!
how did these guys never break it into the mainstream.?
What an intro man
I have two questions for you, Todd. Firstly, can you tell me a bit about the knittles? You were they? How did they get into the scene. I've been listening to everything you've uploaded from them, and I've just been blown away. Second question, is what were the starcleaners? Was it some kind of rock club for underground artists or something? I'm asking this cause after I originally discovered you from the brian jonestown massacre, I tried finding out where starcleaners was located, and well, it took me an entire day to find the adress of where it used to be. Why so much secrecy about its location? Thank you so much for everything you've uploaded! Keep rocking man
Thank you so much for these questions! I love that you love the Knittles!! First let me say, all this happened before the internet. We had no way of making things known to the world. It was all word of mouth by friends in San Francisco. We by no means wanted to keep it secret :) Jennifer Shagawat and company started Starcleaners as a way for new performers and artists to shine their proverbial Stars. A place to showcase art, perform for the first time and have fun in a no judgement space. It was a small location on Sycamore street where she and some other wonderful people lived upstairs and the shows happened downstairs. The Knittles!! They were from outer space and blessed the world with a live album and a few shows for a couple years. Sadly, their home planet missed them and they returned to Knittleland/Planet Iris before the new millennium began here on earth. I love them and miss them every single day. Rumor has it their live album might be coming out on vinyl someday in the future!! Thanks again for the questions! I love talking about this work and would be happy to answer more :)

Don’t feel bad my old friend. I taped all this great shit and I don’t recall a single moment. Hope you are well ❤
Thank you for the uploads. One of my favorite groups of all time.
Hi there. I'm a massive fan of your archiving work on the SF Bay Area bands. By any chance, do you have live footage of the band Decal? They are from the area and played many shows in the 90s. They were also called G.U.S at one point.
Thank you so much! Unfortunately I do not have any footage for those bands. Someday I’ll surely have a time machine though. I’ll go back to the 90s, tape a show and come back with great footage to share. Thanks again for checking out the tapes!!
@@ToddsTapes , haha, that would be great!!!
Hate Me Love You Travel Lodge Superhero As always I love it!

Anton seems to rip on Jeff, Dean and Matt in interviews when he says things like ‘none of the guys in Dig! are in the industry anymore, but I am.’ Okay, but this lineup was gold. Take it From the Man! is one of the best albums of all time, and it’s because of the chemistry of this group that Anton’s singing and songwriting was able to shine. I’ll never forget the first time I heard “Vacuum Boots” and “Who.” I had been listening to the Beatles/Byrds/Stones and the San Francisco sound for years. These guys took me by surprise.
Good first song !
