    Hello, a great comparison video!! I ordered a Trimui Smart Pro without an sd card, which I want to buy myself. Do you know if I have to create folders on the sd card beforehand or does the Trimui do that when I insert the sd card!?

    • @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh

      Hi, thanks for the compliment it is much appreciated. You will have to update the unit to the new version 1.04 firmware anyway when you get it so that it runs everything as efficiently as possible. I have a video guide on that here: th-cam.com/video/-Qt2cWghIiQ/w-d-xo.html. When you do this you will be copying over the folder structure that the unit needs to run with the updated files in them. Joey over at Joey's Retro handhelds has an extremely in depth setup guide if your still stuck after watching mine that you can view here: th-cam.com/video/NFMXzy9ZkIk/w-d-xo.html. Hope that helps, enjoy your Trimui.

    • @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh
      @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@OldHardwarenerd I believe you should be able to install the update with the SD card, format it and then copy the file structure that is neccesary for the Storage sd card that holds the ROm, Bios and other folders. It is part of the upgrade process. You have to download 2 update files. One to update the system and one to copy files onto the storage SD Card. Joeys video is quite comprehensive and shows you step by step what to do. I hope this answers your question. Wasn't shure about that last part. Feel free to ask again if this didn;t clear it up.

    I have both and will say they are each an excellent value for the price. I do think the X55 slightly edges out the Smart Pro though and this is because of 3 things: much better analog sticks, comfortable ergonomic design and superior system UI. The Smart Pro is pocketable, good build quality and the RGB lights are pretty cool. Overall can't go wrong if you can get either of these for around $80.

    • @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh
      @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sounds awesome! its good to get feedback from someone who actually owns both. I can imagine that the X55 is more comfortable than the Smart Pro. it's almost a Rg556 vs RP4 Pro comparison design and Ergonmics wize isn't it? How does the battery life compare in your experience. Does the Smart pro last a bit longer with the slighlty larger battery?

    Honestly I don't think it's fair to compare it to devices that cost over twice what it costs if you're in the market for something that's budget friendly and does older retros pretty well and you just like the form factor I think it's worth the price but there's good alternatives in that price range too from anbernic and the like

      Hi There. You are right in that it was not an apples for apples comparison when i recomended the pocket 4 pro at the end. At the time of making the video though the 1.4 firmware update for the trimui smart pro was not available yet and all the hands on reviews i checked of the unit seemd to indicate that it was struggling with PSP and PS Vita games. With the 1.4 firmware release though it seems that performance on these systems has been greatly improved and i discussed this in my video on it here: th-cam.com/video/-Qt2cWghIiQ/w-d-xo.html. The idea with recommending the RP 4 Pro at the end was to giove viewers who wanted a unit that could definitely play PSP and PSVita well a recomendation that i know would not struggle with these systems. My knowledge of these handhelds is still growing and im learning daily what fits best where. Let me know which system would you recommend at that Price Range for PSP and PS Vita play, would love to hear yopur views.

Personally i agree with you and would rather play on my phone but i must say that i really dislike touchscreen controls so maybe if i actually owned one of these ultra portable devices and could carry it around with me i would be more inclined to argue for pocketability.

Comfortable but chunky accoring to the feedback i have seen. The Smart Pro had a recent firmware update that helped it play PSP better but nothing close towhat the 405V can do. I have to say I just found out this week the Odin 1 is available for $199. That would be a muck better handheld to get in terms of performance for roughly the same price as these. Hi There, it is awesome when you discover these. A whole new world opened up for me. i do not own any of the handhelds i reviewed as yet, at this stage i am doing summary overviews of some of the top hands on reviews out there. From my research though i could recommend the Trimui Smart Pro to fit your description of what you want to play. It plays Most PSP and PSvita games, especially with the new firmware. Sells for between $60-$80 depending on where you buy and it has a comparable shape to the Vita. it will probably still struggle with the top end PSP games but from the reviews i checked it would probably be able to play about 70-80% of them. If your willing to spend a bit more one of the units in this video will do PSP and PS Vita for sure. Hope this helps. You can check out my overview on the Trimui Smart Pro here: th-cam.com/video/8ZnrG-GA83c/w-d-xo.html and Here: th-cam.com/video/-Qt2cWghIiQ/w-d-xo.html. The best thing for this would be a used PS vita. Vita emulation is so new that it’s not really a viable option on these. PS vita is backward compatible with PSP and runs them and PS1 games natively on the hardware.

      @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@justjoshininjapan700 Thanks for the feedback. It raises a point that i did not consider. You are correct in that PS vita emulation is pretty new so emulating it will be hit and miss. Personally though i am just not crazy about purchasing second hand harware that probably doesn't have any warranty on it, I just never have been, but i have to admit most of the time there is no issue with devices bought. I checked E-bay though and the average for a 2nd hand PS Vita is abour $150 which makes it almost as much as the units in this Video. I gues it will come down to how badly you want to play the entire PS vita catalog. Appreciate you raising that though it is definitely something to consider if you want a retro handheld that can handle PSP and PS Vita well.

I also love the look of the metal shell and it looks super pocketable. The 556 would be able to play more demanding games though with a price difference of about $20 i would rather opt for it so you can get the better screen and processor. But if you love Anbernic and you want something super pocketable the 405M would be a good choice. Have you seen my video on on it here? th-cam.com/video/U7LD717smN0/w-d-xo.html

The insane price to performance ratio, ultra comfortable form and ergonomics, larger overall but still very compact size, and much bigger and better OLED 1080p screen were the deciding factors for me. And I'm having zero issues running PS2 games, they look and play awesome.

      Awesome, feedback like this makes me lean more towards the 556 when it comes to deciding between these devices. Thanks for sharing.

      @@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Anbernic can easily offer a firmware update or two to get even more performance out of the 556. But there's nothing Retroid can do to increase the screen size and resolution of that inferior screen. Not only that, but the 556 comes right out of the box as the most comfortable handheld you could ever ask for. You have to spend even more on left and right grip extensions to make the Retroid more comfortable. For me with the Retroid you're paying more while making too many sacrifices and compromises just to have a slightly more compact device with better thumb sticks and only mildly to moderately better processing power than the 556.

    • @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh
      @TheTechUpdate-ui1fh หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's really well said and i have to admit that i did not consider firmware updates. Those could eek out some more performance. I gues the choice will largely come down to how badly you want a PS2 gaming capable device that is pocketable at the end of the day. That will largely be infuenced by when you want to play your retro games. If you want it to play on the go i could still see an argument for the RP4 Pro. What;s your experience like with the size of the RG556, do you think it would comfortably fit in a small day backpack?

    • @davidsapir9638
      @davidsapir9638 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I picked up the 556 as an upgrade to my beloved but dated 5 year old GPDXD+. Still looks and plays great after going everywhere with me for all that time, and as far as compactibility it's unbeatable. Neither one of these devices can touch it in that one regard. That said, both the Retroid and 556 are still much more compact than not. If compactness is a major must have feature the Retroid is more dimensionally compact for sure. But not by much. For me I was more than willing to sacrifice a little compactibility for the 556's phenomenal price, ultra comfortable ergos and much better OLED screen. I honestly think the 556 is the most perfectly sized handheld I've ever played. Not too big, not too small, but just right with a perfect screen size. The Retroid's 4.7" screen size is even smaller than my GPD's 5" screen and its screen resolution is the same. That's not the screen I want to be playing PS2 games on. But on the 556's 5.5" screen they look so good. And it's very slender too. I have a black hard case on it's way that was only $10 on Amazon, and it's dimensions aren't going to take up much space in my EDC satchel at all. Like the Retroid the GPD XD also has a rudimentary rectangular shape, and I can tell you the 556 isn't just a little more comfortable to hold and play, it's waaay more comfortable. And wow is it an incredible rush to be playing PS2 again after so many years on such an incredibly affordable and awesome compact hand held like the 556. Seriously I can't love this thing enough. Last night I ordered an SD card for the 556 from Aliexpress that's nothing but PS2 games, 480 of them. I figured if I only love 10% of them the price was still worth it. @@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh

I have also done my best with every video and with the channel to not give the impression that my video's are actual hands on reviews. I made this clear in my "what is the tech update all about video" here: th-cam.com/video/czyVOfK5Iks/w-d-xo.html. I also mention in this video that my findings are based on research. My aim with these are to provide my viewers with quick concise overviews of some of the top hands on reviews out there untill such time as i can actually do hands on reviews myself. I feel that there could be some value in a channel that gives you a quick run down of the findings of some of the top hands on reviews in one video for these devices. I also leave links to all my source material in my description if viewers want a more in depth look at what hands on reviewers have to say and to acknowledge their hard work for which i have great respect. Just to give some context aswell it took me about 12 hr's of work to create this video of which a large portion was was spent doing research to ensure i had my facts straight and could provide the most value possible to my viewers. Hi There, unfortunately i do not own one and i have been unable to find any direct feedback on the battery performance as yet by researching it. The firmware notes does state that they increased the charging capacity so it should charge faster and some of the feedback from hands on reviewers showed that the unit has the ability ot enable performance mode in the ppsspp emulatior which would ramp up the cpu to its maximum output and probably use up the battery faster if you use it hat way. I would hope that the standby time is at least the same or better as it would be such a minimal state of operation that it should at least not be worst.
