I'm agree that there are better options than him, but i guess the people doesn't analize or doesn't learn to know that fact, because for me Robert Pattinson is the better fit because of The Batman, Tenet, Mickey 17, Remember me, The king and Twilight. And talking about Mickey 17, there is a scene where the character of Pattinson says to his clone "i don't like you" and then he says "i'm not you, i'm gonna kill you" that sounded like something shadow would say. And of course there a lot of lines of Pattinson that makes him a good shadow like "i'm vengeance", "they think i'm hiding in the shadows, but i am the shadows", "vengeance won't change the past, mine or anyone else". For me, choosing Keanu was very illogic and hasty. I'm just saying my opinion.

Is the first incarnation of a character always the "real" one though? Like, Shadow has been a brooding loner ever since his own game, so that kind of *is* the real Shadow now, since that's how the creators decided that the character should be now. Sorry, I don't know how to describe it, but the point is that I feel like this is a kind of purist.

Shadow isnt misunderstood. You have a preferential take on Shadow based on a few lines of cornball mistranslations. Shadow says "I'm the coolest" after being hit in SA2 and that corny line contradicts even the localizer's intent with Shadow. Out of character. Shadow isn't misunderstood at all. There is a depiction of Shadow you prefer. But "misunderstood" is not true

Though Shadow did not seem to show much emotions in Sonic 06 other than Jason Griffith's Shadow always sounding angry. Now give that Shadow an actual reason to be angry and there. Pure brood. Have Shadow remind people he is the ultimate life form and its Sonic Forces edge. Sega was bound to fire the SA2 english localizers regardless so that cheesy dialogue with Shadow was unlikely to be repeated. He would just be Vegeta

I honestly did think that Jason Griffin would do just as good, if not maybe possibly better, than the Winter Soldier (I'm not good with names).

The major flaw is that you are using poorly translated SA2 dialogue for Shadow's character. The dub added the "witty faker" thing. Sonic indicated Shadow was an imposter and Shadow stated that Sonic was beneath him. Its an entirely different tone from "faker? You're the fake. You cant be my fake." In Sonic Adventure games scenes are either mistranslated or (like 4Kids) turn things into a joke or meme

(Sigh) Shadow the Ultimate Lifeform is stuck in the miserable world with Sonic the Hedgehog (himself) and Rouge the Bat forever. He's not gonna have real friends, family, love, friendship, kindness or something... and never will. Because he's gonna be an edgelord, loner, and Sonic's enemy/rival forever. In John Wick 3 (SPOILERS FOR THE END BTW IF U WANT TO WATCH IT) John Wick has a very interesting arc. He is faced with an old friend Caine whose daughter is being threatened if he doesn’t kill him. As somebody who has been living solely for (arguably righteous) revenge he was facing someone fighting to protect their own loved one. And at the end of the movie, they had a moderated duel (old school 30 paces style) and for the last shot John Wick saved his bullet and ended up receiving a fatal injury. Then he shot the person who ordered Caine to kill him and was threatening his daughter. He gave up his life and his journey for revenge in order to help somebody protect what they love. Now Im not saying Shadow is gonna die at the end of the movie but I think overcoming the desire for revenge is something Keanu can channel really well here.

The original Shadow was taciturn and no nonsense... and yet he was true to himself, he felt so natural, and even funny. Back then Sonic was the grumpy one, not Shadow.

Comment 19, what in the trailer give you the impression that movie shadow gonna be a emo edgy type? Everything in the taller has show Movie shadow the same as game Shadow. He's a opposite of sonic in every way. He's serious and does the job without hesitation. Lastly, he's powerful, smart, and calculating. This vid just see to be hate that just like sonic, knuckles, and egg man, they got a popular celebrity actor that they know will voice the character good as the person to voice the character. The thing is that we literally don't know much about Shadow's character in the movie. Jeff Fowler is probably the best person to be directing the movie since he helped make the Shadow game. It's hard to analyze his personality with what we're given so far. But I think it looks promising so far. We've literally been given like 3 lines of dialogue and a couple action sequences. I just feel like I can trust them to write him well.

If you're using Sonic Adventure 2 as examples of who Shadow really was, then let's just say something happened between SA2 and Heroes that changed his character : He lost his memory. Please don't hit me with the "But Eggman lost his memory but when he got it back, he was just like what he was before." Flynn's piss poor and lazy writing do not make a good argument. When people have amnesia but get their memories back, they do not become who they were before no matter how much you try to make it so. They are a stranger with memories that they have but don't know why. Now, onto other things that happened to Shadow after Sonic Adventure 2 : - Was manipulated by his "friend" Rouge into creating a team to "help" him find his memory with a machine who's purpose was to kill him if he ever broke out. - was manipulated by his other creator to be the ultimate soldier and help him conquer the universe - was basically forced to enter the organization that killed his real father figure and sister figure (friends =/= family) - Has had to deal with the annoying antics of Sonic and his friends nonstop. - Had to fight a war against Eggman for 6 months. - Was turned into a metal zombie because of Sonic's cowardice when confronted with the choice of killing Eggman (even Optimus, the greatest paragon of good, realized that Megatron HAD to die to bring peace in all canons of Transformers, so don't give me the bs that Sonic can't kill him because he's a good guy because if Optimus realizes he has to kill his greatest enemy to bring peace, so can Sonic even if it's "Out of Character") And the list goes on. Shadow is in the right to be a completely different person from and not try and have friends at all (Yes, creating Team Dark was a terrible decision because Shadow doesn't need Rouge or Omega to be a good character. I would try and scrap TD as soon as possible). I find that in every "No one understands Shadow" video, they talk about Shadow in SA2 or Shadow in 06 when Shadow as he was in SA2 died and 06 was wiped from existence. Please, stop letting nostalgia for SA2 and Heroes and 06 blind you that modern Shadow is actually a good character and makes sense for what he is more than what the vast majority of fans think. Yes, this means I support the mandates on him. Yes, I don't think Flynn can write him as anything more than a whiney crybaby that I can't take seriously (yes, I'm talking about that stupid Archie panel that's been memed to "You want anything from Mcdonal?" "Borgar"). Shadow right now is a good character, much better than a lot of people give him credit for. I actually support the idea of him having no friends because I feel that's realistic and after all that's happened, why should he be willing to work or be friends with anyone when everyone except Maria has used or manipulated him for one reason or another? That just wouldn't make sense from any point of view. Anyway, hope I got my point across that I think Shadow is fine as is and you all are just overreacting over a character that, for all intents and purposes, is dead, buried, and will never come back and that's good for his character. Also, if you can't tell, I'm not a fan of Flynn's writing, lol

Sonic and Shadow look nothing alike?? They’re literally built from the same base model lol But everything else I’m with you on. 1. Shadow’s characterization after SA2 is soooo skewed. The voice everyone loves from Jason Griffith works for that version of Shadow but that’s not at all what Shadow was in SA2. He’s a totally different entity. Some have even started to say it was on purpose as though the amnesia has lead him to be a completely new character…. except Iizuka wrote Shadow’s game and from the rest of the writing in that game as well as the current mandates on Shadow, his writing ain’t that deep. lol Also this new character is inferior. I also never liked Keanu as Shadow because it was clear that people were thinking less of the voice and more of the type casting because Neo and John Wick wear all black and use lots of guns like in Shadow’s own game. Completely forgetting that this game is ridiculed for that very wtf concept and fans have been expressing disappointment in that very characterization of Shadow. Then when fans chose lines as an example, they were the WORST examples where he did a gritty rough voice more akin to Knuckles/Espio!! Luckily I think he actually sounded decent in the trailer for all of his 3 short lines. lol

Truth! I think his game version will always reign supreme, which is funny since I never got to play it before, but regardless I can still understand it. But let's see what this film has to offer for his character, I have faith they will do this right, you could be surprised if I am being honest with you my friend. But other than that, this was such a nice video on this character! 💯

I do hope Keanu Reeves doesn't lean too hard into the edgy and broody aspect of Shadow and depicts him as a more balanced, nuanced character. Good insight into Shadow, Sonic definitely needs to chill out and acknowledge Shadow as a fellow hedgehog xD That being said though, I really do like Keanu as an actor and hope he portrays Shadow well in the movie.
